ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good morning, It is certainly comforting to come to this thread and find all this good information and encouraging advice. I appreciate it so much. I think I am still being too ambitious about adding foods, and am having a hard time making myself slow down. I do now have the yogurt right, and seem to be doing well with it, but I ate kidney beans yesterday... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Good morning, I need an attitude adjustment. Can anyone help me out? I was doing well yesterday, and then decided that I wanted to eat popcorn popped in coconut oil. Then I decided I'd have a Coca Cola with it. So that was my first and second mistake. On the way home from work, my face started itching. Did ok at dinner, but after H went to bed... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance Vs. Casein?
Bee-Jr replied to David's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
David, hi, It sounds like what you need is an "elimination diet." Elimination diets are used exactly for the purpose you're describing - isolating food intolerances and allergies. These diets are also called "anti-inflammatory diets" too; the two are very similar. I may have this wrong, but my understanding of the lactose/casein thing is as follows... -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Bee-Jr replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Greetings, I'd be very interested in participating in a weight-loss group! Should we revitalize this thread or start something new? I've lost 63 pounds over the last year, most of it by following an anti-inflammatory diet (which worked really more like an elimination diet, and is the way I discovered I am gluten and lactose intolerant). I started... -
Hi, Jennifer, I quit smoking, cold-turkey, on October 8, 2007. The dreams I was having have finally stopped. But while I was having them, boy were they strange. I've heard many people talk about smoking dreams. I've even heard that people have dreams when they give up other addictive substances, too. Drugs and such. But yes, the dreams are a fairly...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good morning, I came to this thread last night to tell you all that I had decided to go back to my regular Anti-Inflammatory diet, because I am finding it difficult to manage the SCD. I started reading some of your posts, and thought better of my decision to change back; decided to think it over a bit more before really doing anything. Meanwhile I had... -

Jan, thank you for this kindness. I would like to think that one of these days I can "step more lightly." What a lovely phrase. Janie -

Ali, good morning, I would surely be interested in the information you find about a liver detox. The statement that candida produces ethanol as a by-product is interesting; potentially puts a new twist on the "non alcoholic" fatty liver disease that I have. Guess they call it "non alcoholic" if the patient isn't a drinker, but if candida is present, and... -
ARCHIVED How To Cut The Carb/sugar Cravings?
Bee-Jr replied to ChemistMama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Boy, do I have experience with this, and what my personal experience tells me is that a multitude of things can set off carb cravings. Here's my list: 1. MSG 2. Low-fiber complex carbs (potatoes, white rice or rice pasta, etc.) 3. Fatigue and/or lack of restful sleep 4. Dehydration 5. Sugar You'll notice I've put sugar at the bottom of the... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Pele, thank you for mentioning this. I didn't know it. I have enzymes at home and will try them. About the candida issue: When I started the SCD, I had a huge release of fluid. It's important for me to try to understand why. Obviously something happened to cause inflammation to subside in a big way. So in thinking that through, and knowing that... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Thanks, Jan, I think your idea of limiting the number of foods is excellent. I have put together a list and will try eating just these foods for a week: Proteins: Chicken/Beef/Pork/Salmon/Eggs Dairy: SCD yogurt/Cheddar cheese (at least two servings of yogurt per day) Fruits: Tomato juice/Banana (limit to one per day of each) Vegetables: Green... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good morning, all, I think my train of thought yesterday about adding more honey and fruit may have been off the mark. Don't know why it suddenly came to mind, but I did some reading last night about candida, and think I may need to modify the SCD a bit to also deal with candida. There's definitely something else going on, because the egg drop soup I... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good morning, all, I think I have come face-to-face with the fatigue some of you spoke of. I am on day 9 of SCD. On April 23 my doc gave me a prescription for six days of prednisone for an eczema outbreak. Most of the time I was taking it, I felt like Wonder Woman. But I finished the meds on April 30, 4 days ago, and since that Friday, May 1, I have... -
ARCHIVED Multiple Food Allergies And Celiac Disease
Bee-Jr replied to samcarter's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, samcarter, I started an anti-inflammatory diet last September. I have been extremely overweight for quite some time, and it's been nearly impossible for me to find a food plan that allows me to lose any of it, even if I cut my calorie intake down quite low. So I thought, why not try this? The diet sorta works like an elimination diet, so I cut... -

Has anyone had experience with pigeon peas? Are they, or are they not SCD legal? I've seen conflicting information, and it seems that something said that blackeye peas are illegal, but then "peas" are legal (my assumption was that green peas are legal). I think pigeon peas are really more like blackeye peas, but I've never eaten them, so I'm not sure.... -

Martha, Since this will be the first batch of yogurt you've made with whole milk and half-and-half, I'd wait to see what consistency you end up with before pouring any liquid off. My suggestion: when the culturing is finished, mix the yogurt well with a hand mixer or whisk, add any sweeteners/extracts, and move to the containers you'll store it in... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, marthamom, Your post looks just fine to me. I'm a newbie too, but can tell you that I added 5 packets of Sweet & Low and a tablespoon of vanilla extract to my homemade yogurt, and it is outstanding. I also poured off about 3/4 cup of the liquid that had risen to the top of the yogurt before I blended it with a hand mixer and packaged... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

I hadn't consciously opted out of testing for celiac, but there are factors that sway me away from more dealings with the medical community than I absolutely have to have. First of all, my medical insurance really stinks, and secondly, if I were going to pursue this, I would need to find a more open-minded doctor. I have mentioned gluten intolerance to... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
Bee-Jr replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good afternoon, I wonder if you'd mind if I join this thread? I'm new to celiac.com, and don't have a diagnosis, just a suspicion. I've been following an anti-inflammatory diet since last September, so at that time I cut out gluten, dairy, and lots of other things. I have since discovered that I break out with eczema on my hands and get diarrhea every...
