ARCHIVED Looking For Good Gluten-free/allergy Free Online Food Store
Jennifer2 replied to Bigpete757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten free mall has lots. Also, if you know what you want, most of this stuff you can get through amazon. I order a bunch through there but it's not quite as easy if you don't have a shopping list. -
ARCHIVED Chex Poll
Jennifer2 replied to brigala's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat rice chex 2 or 3 times a week and haven't had any issues. Honey nut chex bothers me, but I don't think its a gluten issue, honey nut flavored things often bother me-which is odd since I can eat honey roasted nuts all day long and have no problems??? I haven 't had a glutening since I've gone gluten free (to my knowledge at least), so I'm not sure... -
I'm actually having some family in about 2 weeks for a long weekend. Since it's just me, my house is gluten free, with the exception of dog food I know lots of people have mixed households and I want them to feel at home, so I don't mind having to be careful for a few days. I still have my old toaster and things like that they can use. I'll just put...

I've been gluten free for about 4months now. When I was first diagnosed, I thought after a few months I would purposely gluten myself to see what my symptoms would be. After reading other people's experiences that doesn't sound like such a great idea anymore! So, my question to you: If you get glutened are your symptoms the same as before diagnosis or...

ARCHIVED Hypo To Hyperthyroidism?
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks guys! I'm going to the Dr on Monday, so I'll suggest the T3/T4/antibody tests. I don't think we have an endocrinologist in my town, I'd have to drive about an hr to go to one. I have to say, I've been very impressed by this doc so far. When I went in for my last annual check up (first time I saw her), she asked all sorts of questions about how... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Eggs?
Jennifer2 replied to travelthomas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about that, but I haven't been able to eat eggs (unless they were baked in something like bread) for years prior to my dx. For me it's just another food intolerance, not linked to celiac. I also have problems with bananas and avacados, again, not gluten related, just can't eat them. -
ARCHIVED Mother Diagnosed, Wont Go On Diet
Jennifer2 replied to ratty89's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think, like almost anything, it's as easy or as hard as you make it. I'd personally try convincing her that it's not that hard. For me at least, the change hasn't been all that hard. For me, the hardest part has been giving up the convenience of pre-processed, pre-prepared, and fast foods. But even that even has an upside, home-made food simply tastes... -
After reading other people's thanksgiving dilemas, I realize I have the most amazing friends! I went to a friend's house for thanksgiving dinner, and the whole dinner was virtually gluten free! We even ended up having lamb instead of turkey, because when my friend went to get the turkey from the store, they were all out of frozen turkeys. They had some...

ARCHIVED Hypo To Hyperthyroidism?
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know what "kind" of hypothyroidism I have. It was picked up on a routine blood panel back in 2000 and other than routine TSH tests no one has ever looked into it more. Is there a way to tell if it's hashimotos-although I believe that is the most common type of hypothyroidism, so odds are it is. I had been on 150mcg levothroid for several years.... -
Hi guys I was dx with hypothyroid back in 2000. I'd been stable on my meds for the last 5 yrs or so. I get tested once a year, and my TSH levels had always been okay with no adjustments in dose needed. I was dx with celiac and started gluten-free diet back in July and at the same checkup, my TSH bloodwork showed that it had gone pretty high (hypothyroid...

ARCHIVED Going Out To Eat For Lunch Tomorrow
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone The place we went to had stuffed baked potatoes, so I was able to just get a potato with sour cream and butter. I double checked with the waitress to make sure it was real sour cream and real butter. I feel fine, so I think I was okay. Jennifer -
All of us are taking my boss out to lunch tomorrow. This is the first time that I've eaten out since being diagnosed back in July, and I'm really not looking forward to it My coworkers know I have celiac-one of them suggested going to a local bakery and that led to me explaining about celiac (I've onlyl been there about 4 weeks). Luckily, they were all...

I just got off of the phone with the Kroger customer service dietician to check on their microwavable bacon with smoke flavoring (gluten-free!), and while I was on the phone she warned me that the Kroger brand cottage cheese is currently not gluten-free due to some processing error in one of the ingredients (sorry I didn't catch all the details), she also...

ARCHIVED Not Having A Good Day
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone I had some glutino crackers and Sprite and am starting to feel better. I think I need to find a gluten free version of saltines. Saltines and sprite always helped when I was a kid to settle an upset stomach. I think it just might take some time to adjust. -
ARCHIVED Are Big Companies Starting To Label Gluten Free?
Jennifer2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I stopped at the store on my way home today and grabbed some mayo (best foods brand-unilever) and some turkey for lunch meat-hormel natural choice and as I was reading the ingredients I noticed that on both of them at the very end of the ingredients list say "no gluten". Neither of these were in the gluten free area of the store, both everyday products that... -
ARCHIVED Not Having A Good Day
Jennifer2 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free since Thursday. I've been really carefull with everything I've eaten. Today I am feeling pretty nauseous. Is it just not long enough on the diet yet to expect results? Before dx I had some good days and some bad days. Could I be replacing my normal diet with too many veggies too much too soon? Previously, I'd have a salad or veggie... -
ARCHIVED Does gluten-free Pasta Freeze Well?
Jennifer2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've always been the type to cook dinners on the weekend and freeze them in single serving containers so that I don't have to actually cook during the week-I can just pop them in the microwave. This weekend I was thinking about making Lazagna, some sort of pasta/chicken/veggie meal, and some Chicken cordon blue. I know rice freezes well, so I'm assuming... -

ARCHIVED Lotions, Shampoos, Pet Food, Etc...
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks! I have a really good local pet store here in town that carries the high end foods, so I'll check to see if they have them and make the transition. -
ARCHIVED Lotions, Shampoos, Pet Food, Etc...
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess I'll have to think about this some more.... My cat's food is already 100% grain free-one of the benefits of having a diabetic cat! I had my dogs on a 100% grain free diet after I found that one of them had problems with corn/rice. They were on Solid Gold "Bark at the moon". It was way too high in protein (closer to cat food) and the other dog... -
ARCHIVED Wishbone Western Dressing
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you so much! -
I was only diagnosed a few days ago, so I'm still trying to get this all figured out. Toothpaste and lip-balms I understand, since you may swallow some. But, how important is it to have gluten-free lotions, shampoos, pet foods, etc...? Is this for all of us, or just those of us who are super sensitive? I know my shampoo & conditioner has wheat grass...

ARCHIVED Wishbone Western Dressing
Jennifer2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is the only salad dressing that I REALLY like, so I hope I don't have to change that also. It is a unilever company which I've read contradicting posts as to if they clearly label or not. Here is what the label says: High fructose corn syrup soybean oil distilled vinegar tomato paste water salt paprika spice propylene glycol alginate color... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Ideas
Jennifer2 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks! I'm definately going to try the banana/blueberry muffins! Luckily my local grocery store has a pretty nice sized gluten-free section (who knew!!). I picked up a bag of pamela's mix the other day and made the muffin recipe on the back with blueberries. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised!! Unfortunately I realized after I made them and... -
ARCHIVED After You Stopped Smoking Did You Get Worse?
Jennifer2 replied to terps19's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I smoked about a pack a day for ~12 yrs. I quit about a 1.5yrs ago, but started up again about 4 months ago-I'm currently a closet smoker, very few people know I've restarted because I plan on quitting again soon, but the longer it goes the harder that's going to be! It actually makes sense that smoking would delay or minimize the celiac symptoms. Smoking...
