ARCHIVED Diagnosis = Refractory Sprue
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really appreciate your post. So nice to know that I'm not alone. Monday is the breath test. I am most afraid of having my diet be even more restricted. How do I eat, what do I eat, when do I eat. My most important job is to take care of my family - and that includes feeding my family. I can't expect my children to go dairy free! We live in the Mid... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis = Refractory Sprue
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know why I'm waiting... I'm not sure what to look for in terms of ingredients that are a dairy derivative. I do have gluten-free lotions, hair products, cosmetics, etc. I also am the baker of the family and I just stopped making things with wheat flour for the rest of my family. I'm not a crafter and when we do any home improvements I'm masked... -

ARCHIVED Diagnosis = Refractory Sprue
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Alright fellow gluten-free folks, I have been gluten-free for a year after a positive diagnosis via blood test and small intestine biopsies. No marked improvement after all this time. At least 4 more antibody test that have been sky high, despite doing all the correct things for gluten-free - reading labels, separate toaster, not trusting wait staff at... -
ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am two days into a vegetarian diet. I feel okay. My gut has been bothering me, and I am currently on steriods. I have ordered a couple books from my local library to read up on proper vegetarian nutrition. I hope this vegetarian trial lasts through the 4th of July holiday, as we are traveling and staying with relatives. I do have to say that my yoga... -
ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That's funny! I should list why's before why not's! I have trouble digesting red meat in particular. It seems easier to function in my yoga classes with non-meat foods in my system. I also am wondering if going vegetarian will alleviate some of the symptoms I still have after going gluten-free (bloating, diarrhea, gas). Thanks for the tip - I'll check... -
ARCHIVED Want To Try Going gluten-free Vegetarian
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have been gluten free for a while and I'd like to try going vegetarian (the lacto/ovo kind). I'm nervous because the gluten-free diet can be a bit tedious at times, and I don't know if I'd be making more trouble for myself. I also am a yoga instructor and a personal trainer, and I'm not sure if taking meat protein out of my diet is a good idea. The other... -
My parents came to visit last week and one of the night's we all went out to dinner (to a gluten-sensitive restaurant of course). My husband ordered some mozzarella sticks for the kids so they didn't start tearing up the place. The appetizer comes out and the waitress didn't give me a little plate because she knew I wasn't going to have any due to my gluten...

So today I go back to the GI doc again. I was rediagnosed Celiac disease a year ago - yes blood test and endoscopy(ies). I was previously positively diagnosed 10 years ago, but chose not to follow a gluten-free diet (bad idea I know). Anyway, I have been strictly adhering to a gluten-free diet for the past year. My first 4 months were terrible - I had...

ARCHIVED ? About Being Glutened
yogamommytrainer99 replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doc said it is typical to have a delayed reaction to getting glutened. Previously when you were regularly eating gluten - you were probably regularly in abdominal distress. Without the gluten in your system - it may take a couple of days for your digestive & immune system to respond to the gluten. Hope this helps! -

ARCHIVED Probiotics
yogamommytrainer99 replied to twe0708's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take Florajen probiotics - they are available at the pharmacy counter (Walgreen's). I took them pre and post diagnosis - still taking them now to help with the belly bloat. I can tell a difference if I skip a day. -
ARCHIVED Antibody Levels Are Still High
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in late June and had 8 weeks of fatigue and belly problems. Within the past month I have had more energy and my belly symptoms have decreased. I had my anitbodies tested again and they are still high. I am getting glutened some how. I don't eat out much - I am careful at home. I read all my food labels and I try to... -
ARCHIVED Tingling Fingers?
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't rest them - I work part time as a personal trainer & yoga instructor - and the rest of the time I am looking after my two young children. I also have never had my nerves tested... -
ARCHIVED Tingling Fingers?
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have had this problem for quite some time. When I wake up my fore arm and hand are asleep primarily on my left side. I have alway attributed this to sleeping on my side and compressing the nerve in my arm. But lately the numbness has been staying for a while - like it's now 1pm in the afternoon and I still have some numbness in tips of my ring and... -
ARCHIVED Not Having A Good Day
yogamommytrainer99 replied to Jennifer2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for over 3 weeks and it has been tough, I read labels - I pay attention. But, I am still sick to my stomach... Some of that could be accidental glutenizing (love that word), some is due to increased fruit and veggie intake, and the rest is due to wheat-withdrawl... I think that it's the nature of the beast! My doc explained... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does This Last?
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do watch everything I eat very carefully. Last night I had homemade beans and rice with a bit of grilled chicken thigh... I do take a gluten-free multivit at night along with a probiotic. I try not to drink anything besides water at night (alright occasionally I have a glass of wine) but with my stomach problems I'm haven't lately. My family still... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does This Last?
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Had to leave work this morning because of being sick to my stomach (frequent trips to the bathroom). I'm a personal trainer at our local Y and I hated to leave, but I had no other option! The last 3 days have been like this in the morning. The doc says it's a normal adjustment phase I have been gluten free for over 3 weeks. I just want to know... -
ARCHIVED Getting Worse!
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had supplements (florajen, fish oil, vit D, Shaklee Nutrifuron, and Emergen-C) Then gluten-free pancakes, one link of sausage and an egg, veggie salad with tomatoes, cukes, onions and gluten-free mayo, strip steak, potato and corn on the cob + 2 betty crocker gluten-free choc chip cookies and a half of a margarita on the rocks (no salt) -
ARCHIVED Will Body Fat Decrease When On Gluten-free Diet?!
yogamommytrainer99 replied to Vlo1980's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am gaining weight. My doc suggested it could be an adjustment period. A celiac's body ingesting gluten works in a depleted state, and then changing to a gluten-free diet the body is adjusting to another more healthful state. It's all about being patient... Oh and of course changing my workout routine - more cardio and less strength training! -
ARCHIVED Getting Worse!
yogamommytrainer99 replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been hypervigilent about reading labels... I have not cut out dairy - I have never had any problems with it before... Not sure why I would change that now. But I did have a large veggie salad in the afternoon, but I am no stranger to having lots of fruits and veggies in my diet.... -
ARCHIVED Getting Worse!
yogamommytrainer99 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had my first 'accident' this morning! I think that others have called it 'leaky gut'... I've never had one before, even prior to diagnosis! I've been gluten free for over 3 wks! Last night I had the biggest bloated belly and this morning an unwelcome surprise! What is happening to me?!? -
I am truely frustrated... I began a gluten free diet over 3 weeks ago following an antibody blood test which was crazy high and biopsies of my intestines being positive for celiac disease. I went back to the doc and he retested my levels with the idea being that my antibody levels should have dropped by at least 50%, well they didn't - they doubled! ...
