  1. With one of my twin daughters, her symptoms were more "typical" i.e. gastro. Her sisters, however, were not. SHe suffered from severe GERD and nausea. They have been gluten free for 10 weeks now and she is starting to see an improvement, slowly but surely. The gastroenterologist put her on prevacid, which I agreed to have her try for 4 to 6 weeks, but...
  2. Thanks for all your replies. I bet the cc would be a high probability.
  3. Hi, There is a great book called "Healthier Without Wheat" by Dr. Stephen Wagner and he explains how a biopsy may not necessarily be needed. It certainly is a personal decision. I've had two endoscopies with no problems at all but for our children we decided they were just too invasive. It's different for kids those; they use a general. It's just...
  4. Our doctor said that it would take a while to become deficient in a vitamin or mineral since Americans usually are not deficient. I don't know how much I believe that though because if you have problems absorbing food you can very well be deficient. Maybe you were "on the cusp" and now with your recent dietary change you need a supplement. However, remember...
  5. Hi, We have ordered from Enterolab three times. One time it was 21 days, the other two were 20 days. Two times it was just the IGA anti-gliadin antibodies and one time it took 21 days and the other 20 days. The other 20 days time frame was the panel for casein, egg, yeast and soy sensitivity. I know what you mean about being anxious. I'd leave...
  6. OH, the run of the mill "IBS" diagnosis. I think it is SO horrible when doctors brush that off on people, esp. little ones!! My daughters (twins who are 9) were told that for years and guess what, I find out they are at least gluten intolerance, but did have positive stool antibodies for gluten and also have one of the gluten genes. Their grandma has Celiac...
  7. Thanks! We really hope it's not the salad because they are so yummy and convenient..............
  8. Do you know if the bleu cheese on the Whole Foods premade Market Salad is gluten free? After eating one yesterday, my daughters and I are sick, but we also ate some ice cream which we haven't in a while so that may be the cause as well. I called Whole Foods and they checked with the deli who said "we don't know, it has potato starch." Um, okay. thanks...
  9. Yes, I did and almost died from it. I had been taking an antibiotic at the time. I was in our major University hospital for 1 week. I was one step away from having toxic megacolon when your colons bursts and you die. I had numerous IV's and lots of Vanomycin and Flagyl. The Vancomycin saved my life. It developed into pseuomembraneus (sp?) colitis....
  10. Thanks so much; that is what I was thinking!
  11. My twin girls who are 9 would always, for at least 2 years, want me to scratch their back constantly. On the top of their backs and down almost half they would have this rash. It was more 'invasive" looking that a typical heat rash and would really itch them. We tried things like changing shampoos, changing soaps, new laundry products but nothing would...
  12. We are new to gluten free and I was wondering why we have to worry about gluten in school supplies. Is it because the younger ones may eat things like play doh or am I missing something? My oldest kids are 9 and they are real good about washing their hands. Should I worry about my 5 year old even if he won't eat stuff? TIA I LOVE this site: Everyone...
  13. We use the Lit Critter multi vitamins gummy bears, vegetarian formula. I am happy with their content of B vitamins and the kids love them. They also take their omega gummies and the calcium/vitamin D gummy. They love them all.
  14. We are in the first time gluten-free lunch boat, but our children are going into 4th grade and fortunately they aren't as picky as our youngest who will go to school next year. My girls love lentils with brown rice and I will be putting that in their thermos. It doesn't have much taste, but you could try that. We live the quinoa/corn pasta too because...
  15. My three children and I have been gluten free for 10 weeks. Everything is going great. If we go somewhere for the entire day we just pack our lunch and dinner and off we go. We have not eaten out at any restraurants yet because we are being so careful not to get cc we just don't want to chance it right now. I cook almost everything from scratch at home...
  16. Count me in on the "overexertion" may everything worse. If I do something "big" one day (like a hike or trip to the zoo) I am exhausting for two. Hoping as the time without gluten goes on this problem with lessen. It is no fun and is very frustrating with young children. Mom just shouldn't get worn out from some family fun involving activity.
  17. Hello. Both Celiac disease and gluten intolerance can present with so many symptoms it would not be uncommon for your children to have different issues. I have twin daughters who the doctors are very sure have Celiac (awaiting final test results) and one of them had constipation for years then in the last two had constant loose stools with lots of mucous...
  18. Okay, thank you. It is from a local grocery store and we have no idea what the ingredients are on the skin....Better safe than sorry; guess we will just have a salad.
  19. Hello, we are new to the gluten free world. If you are not sure of the ingredients on the skin of a rotisserie chicken, can you eat the inside meat only? Thanks!
  20. I have heard that it varies for everyone, but that generally children "recover" faster than adults. My daughters who are 9 started on our gluten-free diet 9 weeks ago and they felt so much better fairly quickly, certainly within two weeks. They had many digestive issues and they went away fast. Their joint and muscle aches (so called "growing pains") took...
  21. Do you eat Lays or Ruffles potato chips? I called the company and they said they were gluten free but we are having problems and think they may be cross contaminated.
