ARCHIVED Not Good
nu-to-no-glu replied to pewpewlasers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wanted to encourage what Ravenwood said. Having been through a similar situation, I understand your feelings I suffered many many embarassing "accidents" before introducing the gluten free lifestyle. I was also mis-diagnosed as having Crohn's from inflammation found during a colonoscopy. I spent a year on steroids, with no relief from accidents. It hasn... -
ARCHIVED Explain Candida?
nu-to-no-glu replied to Diva1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not an expert on the subject and it is a contoversial topic in medicine. Some drs don't believe that the condition truly exists, and some strongly believe so. From what I understand, the belief is that the healthy "yeast" bacteria that lives in your gut starts to flourish in your intestines, from the result of a high sugar diet. They burrow into the intestines... -
ARCHIVED Ibs Vs Celiac Disease
nu-to-no-glu replied to amiller1030's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Andrea, you just didn't know the loaded question you were asking I'm in agreeance with several of the other posters about IBS not being a real diagnosis. I was mis-diagnosed with IBS by about 5 different drs since childhood. (I was even once told I had Chron's disease). My current dr believes that IBS is a symptom and not a diagnosis. I have to say, through... -
ARCHIVED Are My Symptoms Celiac Or Ibs?
nu-to-no-glu replied to Thomasmcfall's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If this is any help...my dr believes that "ibs" is merely a symptom. I was diagnosed with ibs probably about 6 times, by 6 different drs and having taken about every ibs medication available (with no relief) I have to say I believe it! I've been gluten free only a month, and the results are astounding! I recommend just trying it, as a search for an educated... -
ARCHIVED Igg Allergy Testing
nu-to-no-glu replied to missybean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
These are good questions that I don't have answers to! But, I am waiting on results from my IgG tests and my dr is an MD, so he at least recognizes them as legit! I will tell you that when I was pregnant many many of my symptoms (that at the time, I didn't relate to celiac as I had no knowledge of the disease) were crazy! My gums bled so much, I had a tooth... -
ARCHIVED I'm New... Could I Be Celiac?
nu-to-no-glu replied to DaisyJane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You'll probably get varied responses to your question about getting a formal diagnosis. Having been through the ringer trying to get one myself, I could suggest that you just cut out gluten and dairy for at least 2 weeks and see how you feel. From experience, it does take a little while for those "strange" symptoms to dissapear, but they do (I still have many... -
ARCHIVED Must Be Gluten Intolerant?
nu-to-no-glu replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would give up both. Gluten and Dairy. Milk intolerance is considered different from lactose intolerance, at least, according to my dr. (I think all of these terms are used interchangeably i.e. intolerance vs allergy, etc.) which makes it extremely confusing Anyway, I would stay gluten free and eliminate the dairy as well and see how you feel. From... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Overwhelmed.
nu-to-no-glu replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you both! Ravenwood, you've been especially helpful to me So thank you! I'm already feeling better, I took a little me time this afternoon, so that helped. I think my husband gets annoyed listening to me bc all I talk about is gluten, neuropathy, etc.(But it's super annoying when your arm goes numb all the time, ya gotta tell someone) People truly... -
Today I've been feeling way overwhelmed with everything. I've been gluten free for almost 4 weeks and really feeling the best I have in quite sometime. After searching for 28 years, it initially has been such a relief to finally have a diagnosis, I think I've just almost been on a high! But for some reason, today I'm just iritable and feel like I'm crawling...

ARCHIVED Is There A Test For Gluten-intolerance?
nu-to-no-glu replied to terribeth07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may want to find an allergist who practices treating food intolerance. In my experience, once a GI doc diagnoses you with IBS, they just try to treat the symptoms with medication. It sounds like you may be doing better if you are only having reactions once a week? There is a blood test that can determine and test over 96 food intolerance. A simple... -
ARCHIVED Must Be Gluten Intolerant?
nu-to-no-glu replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think I read somewhere that frequent urination can be a symptom of gluten intolerance, but I'm not sure where I read it (sorry, I've done soooo much research)! Whenever I've had a UTI, it's typically painful and I feel urgency with only a little pee coming out. So, maybe it is just the way your body responds to gluten. Have you had bloodwork to check for... -
ARCHIVED ? About Being Glutened
nu-to-no-glu posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a quick question. I started my gluten-free diet almost 4 weeks ago now. I just found out that the black bean burger that I thought was gluten free actually isn't, and I've probably eaten about 4-5 of them in these 4 weeks....I really haven't noticed a reaction to them (i.e., diarrhea and pain, which was my #1 biggest symptom). Has anyone experienced... -
ARCHIVED Why Is It So Hard To Get Diagnosed?
nu-to-no-glu replied to missybean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you already know how to treat your symptoms. I know how disheartening it is to search for so long with no resolve. Sounds like you are on the right track! It's really a personal choice if you want to go through with the endoscopy and put gluten back into your diet. It may be useful to have a firm diagnosis in case those little ones start to... -
ARCHIVED Neuropathy After Long-term Gluten-free Diet
nu-to-no-glu replied to ratz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had bloodwork to check your vitamin levels? Particularly B12? You may see if this is causing the tingling. My arm has been going numb off and on for several months and my dr says this could be the reason. You can google B12 defficiency, it could have been an underlying issue. Many celiacs are deficient in vitamins, I'm not sure aboutafter the diet... -
ARCHIVED Some Thoughts And Advice - Gastro In 2 Days
nu-to-no-glu replied to Bfromaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should definitely have the blood test and go from there and if all else fails, you know that eliminating wheat and other varients makes you feel better! If celiac is a dead end, or you can't find a dr to diagnose you, I would recommend having food allergy testing done. An immediate reaction after consuming could indicate a) celiac or additional food... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac Disease ?
nu-to-no-glu replied to Bmartin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I understand your frustration of going from dr to dr only to get no relief or diagnosis. Many people here have the same experience. There is a thread in the "doctors" section of these boards called "recommend a dr in your state" that you may be able to find a dr familiar with celiac. I went to about 12 different GI specialists, and most disregarded my joint... -
ARCHIVED Are Most People Gluten Sensitive Before Onset Of Celiac's?
nu-to-no-glu replied to StacyA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You very well may have had celiac all this time, but some of your symptoms may have gotten progressively worse. If you dig around on this site, you will see this is the case for many. This is due to increased damage to your intestines caused by eating gluten. If you look on the home page, there is loads of information to help you better understand. -
ARCHIVED Hooray! Hooray! I Can't Believe It!
nu-to-no-glu replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I think the fructose thing was just a dr making an assumption without proper testing. I'm going to keep an eye on things. It's nice to strip down the diet and eat so simply. It really opens your eyes to what can and can't be tolerated. And it seems to have been very instant for me. I agree, dairy is gonna be a struggle. My props to all of you... -
ARCHIVED Family Member Testing
nu-to-no-glu posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I need to send some very general information to my siblings and mother. They all need to get tested (I have 4 siblings) and we have a variety of autoimmune diseases among us, and now that I am on the road to recovery, my dr suggested I tell them to get bloodwork done. Several of them keep saying to me "but, i don't have any digestive issues...or, I'm dealing... -

nu-to-no-glu replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the links and support LD and Raven. I'm already noticing 3 days after starting the diet that dairy is hitting me hard. Did you all eliminate it completely, or just cut back? I won't be surprised if the blood test comes back positive for dairy next week. I decided not to but any gluten free bread, yet (plus, the yeast intolerance) so I am sticking... -
Dr. Jeremy Baptist in Kansas (City) is amazing. He will sit with you for an hour and go over every symptom. He was recommended to me by a random celiac stranger and I can't say enough about him. Very informed and up to date.

ARCHIVED Doctors To Avoid (for Celiac And Intolerance)
nu-to-no-glu replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Doctors
Ooh, that wasn't the intention at all, if you notice I said that they are very well informed drs, just not as informed in celiac disease. I was trying to be helpful to those who are searching and have limited time and funds, it's not an easy disease and many are not as specialized, hopefully, this won't be the case for long. I don't see it as "bashing" at... -

nu-to-no-glu replied to 8tatertots's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, quite possible. Many people here have been told they are quite healthy despite varies symptoms, IBS diagnosis, etc. If you do some searching here, you'll probably find many people with similar stories to yours (and then you'll become addicted to this site like I have, which is ok because there are so many nice, informed, helpful members here!) Thanks for the link. I realize now the even harder work begins! I just went to whole foods and wow, what a long hard trip (even harder with an impatient 20 month old) They peovided me with a 6 page list of every gluten free product in the store, and it was still overwhelming! I think I went down each aisle 3 times! -
ARCHIVED New Gluten-free Restaurant Options In Kc
nu-to-no-glu replied to julerson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Also, if you aren't aware, Lulu's noodle house downtown has a celiac menu! So yuuuumy! And godfather's pizza delivers a gluten-free pizza in 2 locations in KC. I saw that Kona Grill on the plaza has gluten free options, as well as Eden Alley, First Watch, and Uno Chicago Grill. I didn't know about Spin! That makes me excited! Thanks!
