  1. I did not have a blood test. I tried the diet on my own, and when my bloating went down considerably I spoke to my doctor. He seems to think my food problems are caused by IBS (He said "you could eat pizza when you were a teenager couldn't you?") I have cut out dairy but I still get sick when I eat out, and I still have stomach pain sometimes after I eat...
  2. Amy's Teryaki Rice Bowl. I got stomach cramps for 3 hours.
  3. I'm not really getting anywhere with my doctor, who is convinced I have IBS. He knows I am eating gluten free and dairy after doing a food diary, but he says he is hesitant to call what I have "Celiac". He doesn't think I have it. I know I could do the genetic test (it would be nice to have something confirm I am gluten intolerant too), but I am nervous about...
  4. Wow. Why is this disease so difficult? Even the people who get diagnosed don't get any peace! What do you do if you are like me and no one even wants to try and diagnose you? I went off gluten on my own (after being told by 3 different doctors that I had IBS and just need to eat more fiber). After going off gluten dairy started making me sick. Now I am better...
  5. I was just wondering if anyone on here has had a problem with stomach ulcers like me. I had my first one at 14, and I thought it was from stress. I have had a few since then, and was tested for H. Pylori. I was curious because when I was being tested for food allergies this past week (which I don't have, just gluten intolerant) they asked if I had ever had...
  6. Yes that sounds a lot like what happened. I didn't really think it was a stroke, I just had no idea what was happening at the time. It was really scary. I just wasn't sure if something like that was actually dangerous or was just another crazy gluten reaction. I tend to be very sensitive to it I think. But that was the first time for that. Thank you very...
  7. Big Dogs! I have a question for you. The other night I got up in the middle of the night and all of a sudden felt dizzy, like I was going to pass out, or throw up or something was going to happen. I felt this enormous amount of heat that felt like it was rising from the bottom of my body slowly up to the top and I had a loud ringing in my ears. I laid down...
  8. Hi! I have been gluten free for about 3 months now so I know how you feel. I think it is interesting that I also get stomach cramps, and when I eat gluten my stomach swells up like a giant balloon and I get constipated. I think it is best to avoid eating out for now. Cross contamination can be difficult depending on how sensitive you are. I have eating something...
  9. Thanks Jestgar. I understand what you mean. I know my body better than my doctor and I know what makes you sick. I feel bad for you with the peaches though! I would miss my daily peach yogurt and gluten free bread with peach preserves. I suppose those closest to me understand whats going on and that should be good enough for me. Although, while I'm asking...
  10. Thanks Wolicki. I am back on my gluten free diet, and have been for about 3 days now. I feel great. Gluten makes me feel like I have a cold or something, my whole body is pretty much affected. My complaint though, is that I have not been diagnosed with anything (except IBS). Do I just assume I am gluten intolerant and move on? I guess I was just expecting...
  11. Hi. I've been on here before asking questions about wheat allergy and gluten intolerance. I stumbled on gluten intolerance a few months ago, and though my doctor said I could possible have it, he said he did not believe I had Celiac. Up until then I was told I had IBS (though nothing they gave me for that helped really). I tried a gluten free diet just...
  12. I used the Betty Crocker yellow cake mix to make muffins and I noticed they get hard quickly once they cool. So the second time I mixed the batter and threw in a ton of dark chocolate chips (you can use milk chocolate, but the milk gives me a stomach ache) and pecans. They are really only good when they are hot though, so for the next few days I just microwave...
  13. Yeah, that statement threw me off too. I was just thinking, well what if it doesn't go away? He seemed very set that what I have is IBS, which he said will go away in a few years, and take my current food intolerances with it I guess. The he suggested Prozac, lol. Perhaps he doesn't know a lot about food intolerance?
  14. Thanks! I didn't realize you didn't have to go through your doctor. Even if I don't have a wheat allergy, perhaps they know a little about gluten then.
  15. I was going to request an allergy test, I was just wondering if I am on the right track. My doctor said an allergy would have been more obvious before now. I have been on a gluten free diet for almost 3 months now with good results, but now when I accidentally get wheat my reactions are worse. I have thrown up twice and got very dizzy one time, I didn't know...
  16. I react to gluten or wheat, and I was starting to think that I might actually have an allergy. My doctor didn't think so, but I'm starting to doubt it. The longer I am off gluten the more severely I react to it (Ive gotten dizzy and thrown up). I usually react within 15 minutes. Can those of you who have wheat allergy tell me what your symptoms are like?
  17. Are these signs of an actual wheat allergy, or do Celiacs respond like this as well? As a response to your question, now I am very good about my diet. At first it was hard because I doubted everything. Doctor's weren't really listening, and its hard to keep yourself convinced when a doctor is telling you something different. My doctor told me he didn...
  18. I like the enchilada meal (the dairy free one) and haven't had a problem. Perhaps there are certain ones that are riskier than others.
  19. You know, I had thought about that. I have quite a few sinus allergies related to pollen and various grasses and plants, and what is wheat but another plant? I actually asked my doctor about it the last time I was there and he said I would have known it before now if I had an allergy, but I don't know about that. It sucks because he doesn't know my history...
  20. I see. Well, I think it may be one of those things that would be worthwhile to do. I could always see what my doctor would say about it, but if not, oh well. Are you completely self diagnosed? It seems like a lot of people on here are.
  21. So the stool test (ha ha good thing I'm not constipated anymore) can tell you if you have Celiac? I understand you have to be eating gluten to get the blood test, which honestly would suck. Do you think insurance would cover the stool test?
  22. Thank you both for replying. I am back on my gluten free diet and feel back to normal now. Mushroom, I was not tested for Celiac. He didn't think I had the symptoms to be tested, which at first was a relief to me, until I tried to eat gluten again and regretted it. I think this whole thing bothers me so much because for the past 2 1/2 years I was really...
  23. Another question, can I be tested even if my doctor doesn't think I have it?
  24. Ok, I figured out that I was gluten intolerant a while back when no body could tell me what was wrong with me. I saw several doctors over 2 years who all kept telling me I had IBS and that pretty much I would just have to deal with the constipation. Its a long story, but it ends up with me trying the gluten free diet and it worked. My doctor has been supportive...
  25. Update: I saw my doctor yesterday. He told me I was not having an allergic reaction, and that it would have been discovered at a younger age. He pretty much said I couldn't have been eating wheat my whole life and been able to tolerate it. So that clears that up. He also said he doesn't think I have Celiac because of my symptoms. He said he's pretty...
