  1. I was at the grocery store today and was looking for some chips. Frito Lay claims that their baked Lay's product is gluten-free, but it lists modified food starch as an ingredient. Am I misinterpreting something here?
  2. Okay, I know it's not Tuesday, but here is a good side dish recipe. Note, there are two versions. Also note that I am a newbie and to the best of my knowledge, everything listed is gluten-free. Broasted Red Potatoes 2 lbs. Aize "A' Red Potatoes-washes, dried, and halved 2 Tbs. Olive Oil 1 tsp. Dried Thyme or Herbs de Provence Kosher Salt to taste...
  3. Thank you for that insight. It made me remember I used to take Levasin (sp?) when I was a little kid and diagnosed with "IBS". It did actually help me, but I had totally forgotten about it. Do you dissolve it under your tongue, or swallow it?
  4. I received my blood test results last week. My doctor's assistant just wrote that I was "not allergic to wheat". On the lab sheet, the test requested was for Celiac's Disease, so I called to find out specifically what blood tests were done. I tried to research withing exisitng posts to help understand my results, but the names of my tests don't match...
  5. My doctor's assistant sent a note in the mail saying my test indicated that I was not allergic to wheat. I called to ask for the specific results and he gave me this: IGA plus T (266) Ttg (4) I was looking at everyone else's postings, but I didn't see anybody with the same description. Did I get the wrong tests? It just said "Celiac Test" on the...
  6. I am right there with the rest of you. Got my blood tests back on Friday and all my doctor's assistant said is that it was "negative for a wheat allergy". Considering that isn't even what I was tested for, I thought it was amusing, especially since I can't even get my GI to return my calls. Bottom line is I did the gluten free diet as a last resort because...
  7. I mostly shop at co-ops and natural food stores for my gluten-free products. But they are now carrying some of the basics (Ener G breads and gluten-free mixes) at our mainstream stores (Cub & Rainbow here in the midwest) in the organic food department. I am lucky enough to have a gluten-free bakery close by too. I guess I am pretty spoiled!
  8. Annie's Naturals has a yummy honey mustard.
  9. I recently found Mayacama's gravy mixes in my co-op that are all gluten free. I find they have a little more flavor than making it from scratch. I also had good sucess by adding a bouillon cube to my meat juices, then adding corn starch for the old fashioned version.
  10. I have not heard of this brand, but I use Requa charcoal tabs whenever I make a goof. They work awesome! I know there are some other makers of these too...check with your pharmacist.
  11. After several attempts, I finally found the Blue Diamond Nut Thins and actually found them to be palatable. They are also selling Hot Kid Rice Crisps in our deli section now, which are pretty good.
  12. Here is that info for Annie's Naturals: Dear Chantal, The packets are a wonderful design- especially for those with particular dietary needs. The packets do not need to be refrigerated prior to opening. They should be refrigerated after opening. We have made the packets available for order, since so many showed an interest. They are .39 cents a piece...
  13. Hi All- I inquired about the packets of Annie's Naturals dressings that I always pick up at the local co-ops salad bar. Apparently they are selling them by the carton now to the public. These are great for traveling. Here is the response they gave me: Dear Chantal, The packets are a wonderful design- especially for those with particular dietary...
  14. Bryan- I live in the Minneapolis area, and although I am new, here is what I found so far (mostly mainstream restaurants). For Mexican, Don Pablos has been really great, as well as Outback Steakhouse. Both offer gluten-free menus. PF Changs (for Asian) is usually pretty adaptable if you advise your server about what you are looking for. There are...
  15. Okay, I have read a lot hear and tried to understand it all, but I do have some questions. Burdee, you amongst others have mentioned the Entero Lab tests. How do I go about finding more information about that? I have been gluten-free (with some slips...still learning) for about three weeks and have noticed 70% of my "IBS" symptoms have disappeared...
  16. This sounds like a great idea! If you can arrange it at a nice resort type area, where people can make a mini vacation out of it, I think it would fly. Everyone would of course pay their own way (as a package) for accomodations and use of a convention/seminar type space. I would do it in a heart beat, but I am new to this gluten-free diet and my recipe...
  17. I received some conflicting info in regards to McDonalds. When I spoke with one of their reps in corporate recently, I was told that the patties were seasoned, which was not guaranteed gluten-free.
  18. Does anyone know if you have to be consuming possible allergens in your diet at the time you take the York tests? I want the test to be accurate, but I have already eliminated several things that I know make me sick.
  19. Are you sure Heinz 57 is not gluten-free? It was listed on one of the other sites as being "safe". I just read the label and I could not find anything obviously incriminating. Anyone?
  20. I am fairly new to this game and I was having a hard time giving up my vice...Dentyne Ice chewing gum. I finally contacted the company and got this response. Thank you for contacting us about Dentyne Ice. Your comments and inquiries are appreciated because they provide valuable feedback about our brands. All flavors of our Dentyne Ice, Dentyne Fire...
  21. Sally- I have never heard of the Nut Thins cracker product. Do you know where they are carried? I am itching to find a good cracker! Chantal
