  1. This experience was a first for me - went to Chili's (which I do often)

and ordered the citrus shrimp and chicken (which is in one of my books as safe) I told the waitress "I have a wheat allergy, I cannot have anything near else on my plate or near my food." My food came and the shrimp and chicken were sittting on top of rice (not in my book) and vegetables (not in my book) When I pointed this out to her she said, "Oh, I thought you said you were allergic to WEEDS, like parsley". Unbelievable!

  2. there was a similar situation with a child on my daughter's softball team. All of the moms started to notice that this child was getting thinner and thinner (Her bones were jutting out). At first, everyone suspected anorexia (I didn't think so, she was a little young for that). Anyhow, when someone mentioned this to her mom, the mom at first was defensive and said she didn't think her daughter had lost any weight, she was just getting taller. Long story short, her daughter started to complain of fatigue and finally they had her checked and she was diabetic. The parents were devistated. They felt so guilty.

One other thought about your situation - this child may have some malady that her parents are aware of and may not appreciate the comment.

  3. Recently, I had an endoscopy, colonoscopy and a small bowel series (my gastro calls this a "work Up" and my experience was this - the endoscopy requires no prep, other than nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The colonoscopy was difficult because of the time fasting, I had a terrible headache from not eating (my test was late in the day). For both of these tests, I was sedated and don't remember a thing. I slept for a few hours at home after tests. Good luck

  4. I totally relate to relatives who don't get it. Just yesterday, my husband said to me "I don't think you really have this disease" How about that! He was in the room when the doctor showed me my biopsy! This attitude is because I do not react to gluten. I was totally shocked. I will be going to the Celiac Center at Columbia University so I can positively justify my diet.

  5. I haven't received an answer from anyone on this - New at this - I'm not sure I'm posting this correctly.

I was diagnosed in Sept.04 by biopsy and blood work. I have no gastro symptons (low iron was the tip off). I have done a lot of research, belong to a support goup and I have many food lists. I felt I was following the diet as best as possible, but after reading many of the topics on this forum, Im afraid that I may be getting gluten inadvertently, i.e, Frito Lay chips, Tums, etc. Should I only be eating "gluten free products" or can I trust mainstream items just by reading the label. Help.
