  1. I know what you mean Apache. I've been eating a ton of avocados. I was doing so well and feel so terrible at the moment but am hoping to get past it soon. I tried the diet before and then reintroduced rice, quinoa and gluten-free oatmeal. Then I was feeling so great that I started eating a whole bunch of gluten-free sweets that are probably the simplest carbs...
  2. I'm on my third bout of SIBO (unfortunately). I'm on antibiotics but know that they don't always do the trick. My last bout cleared up with the SCD diet and so I'm back on that diet - again - and will stay on it for a longer period of time this time around. When I started feeling better I ate a lot of simple carbs and it came back. It sounds extreme but...
  3. Saw my GP today and he asked whether I had any eating disorders - this is after a long haul with 2 intestinal infections (including potential celiac disease) and newly diagnosed with hypopituitarism (including a loss of 15 pounds when I was on the thin side to begin with). Still suffering from severe constipation but I think this is a side-affect of everything...
  4. If you've lost some weight recently then you'll miss your period....otherwise I'd contact the Dr. as low estrogen can lead to increased risk of osteoporosis and maybe other things?
  5. You could try the specific carbohydrate's recipe for yogurt - you'd be getting probiotics plus some calories. It's completely lactose-free (I can verify!) and easy to make if you buy a yogurt maker. I bought the Yogourmet one and it's easy - bought it off of Lucy's Kitchen and she provides a good recipe too. Not sure if the parasites feed off of carbohydrates...
  6. I was having pins and needles in my hands and feet and was getting dizzy when standing from a sitting/lying position (low blood pressure). In my case, it was electrolytes (sodium) due to a medication I'm on (indirectly due to Celiac). If vitamins don't solve it I would be tempted to get a basic blood panel done for electrolytes etc (including B12, iron etc...
  7. Hi there, I suffered from hypoglycemic attacks during the night and would have terrifying dreams. I'm not sure about treatment with diabetes but blood sugar can definitely have an effect on this. Currently, I'm so underweight that I'm not producing enough estrogen so now I'm plagued by the night sweats!!! So besides blood sugar there might be other...
  8. Hi everyone, I'd like to bake some brownies and am looking for a gluten-free chocolate (preferably dark) in the Toronto area. Any tips please let me know! Thanks, Katie
  9. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good quality gluten-free baking chocolate in Toronto. I prefer to use dark chocolate as I'm lactose intolerant as well. I wanted to use Lindt but they can't guarantee that their chocolate has been cross-contaminated. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! Katie
  10. Yes - I can totally agree. My dietician also pointed out that if I don't get a diagnosis and in 30 years will I start to cheat a little, however, having something randomly malfunction in your brain is very scary and I honestly don't think I'll ever cheat. Besides, I really don't feel deprived - I can eat a lot more now than a year ago so things to me are...
  11. Thanks everyone, Sometimes it's just nice to share my frustration with people who understand. I know that there isn't a clear cut answer but at some point I just want to get healthy for good! In response to Michelle - I've had two bouts of sibo and got rid of them by going on the specific carbohydrate diet. The first one I just scaled back everything...
  12. Hi everyone, So, after being diagnosed as having IBS then having Celiac, then having small intestine bacterial overgrowth and perhaps not Celiac I'm left wondering what's what? I was also recently diagnosed with a pituitary disfunction so I can't produce vasopressin or cortisol - my endo. believes that since my pituitary is slightly smaller that it was...
  13. Thanks guys, I've been tested for diabetes and have been told that I definitely don't have it, however, at the time I didn't know that I had celiac disease (I had a diagnosis of IBS). Once I see my endocrinologist again I'll let him know about this diagnosis and see what we can do. It makes sense that since celiac disease inhibits metabolizing food that...
  14. Hi there, I've been suffering from reactive hypoglycemia for at least a year. I've modified my diet to include more fibre, fresh fruits and veggies etc. and now I'm on a gluten-free diet. I've noticed that things have been getting worse. I just recently went on the gluten-free diet so I don't think that that is causing a huge difference. Has anyone else...
  15. Thanks for adding me as a friend -- I see you are from Toronto and recently diagnosed.

Have you had much luck finding gluten free foods/products/restaurants? Let me know if I can be of any assistance!!

    K

  16. Thanks! Having trouble getting used to reading labels and sometimes it's so obvious!
  17. Hi, I live in downtown Toronto and haven't been able to find a gluten-free soy sauce. Any advice? It's the one thing I'm missing! Also, are there any support groups in downtown Toronto? I'm newly diagnosed and still trying to figure everything out! Thanks!
  18. Hi there, I've been using Kitchen Basics Original Chicken Cooking Stock - it is labeled "gluten free" on the package - I got this from Wholefoods around Bloor and Avenue. I'm going to check out the other options listed in this thread though since it's more expensive.
  19. I also have had a terrible time gaining weight, however, I am just newly diagnosed so hopefully I can get the weight back soon! I have 6 small meals a day. I drink avocado milkshakes (sounds gross I know but it actually tastes good!). I use 1 avocado, a bunch of almond milk (can't tolerate dairy or soy at the moment), a bit of sugar, vanilla and a few...
  20. I've had a couple of closed MRIs and it wasn't too bad at all. You can speak to the technician and you can press a button if you need to get out. I found it okay because they would run one round of images for a few minutes, then they would speak to you again and run another round. This way it broke up the time nicely. I also remember singing a song in my...
  21. Thanks so much for the reply. Yes, my Dr. just gave me antibiotics and everything calmed down. I'm going to be seeing him soon and will get a sample tested to see exactly what's going on. I'm pretty confident that I have celiac as well - I'm just confused as to why he's questioning it. I guess it's a bit of a process...I can't believe how long it's taken...
  22. I take Milk of Magnesia - just a teaspoon before bed. It's really helped with gas and moves things along.
  23. Hi there, Months ago I started having diarrhea - smelly and pale stools. I went to see the Doc. and he gave me antibiotics for a small bowel infection. Everything cleared up and he did a scope and said that I had damaged villi and most likely had celiac disease. I've been gluten-free for close to a month now. I felt better at first but now I'm having the...
