  1. My having my daughter's birthday party this weekend and plan on making 2 cakes and cupcakes. The cupcakes will be gluten free and I may make 1 cake gluten-free too. I always bake cakes from scratch but I'm not very confident about gluten-free cakes. I keep the Nearly Normal flour mix (I mix my own) in the kitchen, do I substitute it cup-for-cup for regular...
  2. She goes through a lot of green beans but I give them to her at mealtime. She hates the freeze dried apples, peas, fish and potatoes. So, I feel like everything she could physically eat falls into 3 categories: 1. it has gluten 2. she's allergic or 3. she hates it. So frustrating! I did make a tasty snack for her and I thought you all might enjoy it too...
  3. We also used a lot of rice rusks, and Kix-tons of Kix!
  4. That's very interesting, my 4 year old has cavities (6 so far) but she's not the gluten intolerant one! I wonder if I should have her tested?
  5. I bought some freeze dried apples yesterday, I think she might eat them. Little custards sound delicious! I make rice pudding once in a while and both of my girls love it.
  6. She doesn't have any molars yet so she chokes on Chex unless they're in milk. She can't chew raisins yet either. Ugh!
  7. I know this topic has probably been posted numberous times, but hey, products are always changing DD is 15 months old and our snacks are becoming, um, routine-to say the least! We always have cheese, fruit, & Kix. She loves Plum organics Fiddlesticks but they're pricey! Toddler Mum Mums are good but she'll only eat them occasionally (I think we...
  8. I used Earth's Best rice cereal and Gerber, no problems either way. If you use jarred baby food, good luck There are very few single food varieties, they all seem to be beans and pasta or chicken and pasta or peaches and cereal - you get the idea. Be very careful with Chex, they are really jagged and my little one has a terrible time with them unless...
  9. I love this one. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Hi Julie! My 14 month old has been gluten free since the beginning of the year. I'm also a BFing mom and will nurse her until she's 2 or 3, whatever she chooses Since she's been on a gluten-free diet she eats so much more and she's getting back up there on the growth charts! Anyway, I decided to continue to eat gluten because she doesn't nurse as much...
  11. I just made some cookies that were almost exactly like Toll House, I did change the recipe a little to accommodate what I could find at my local grocery stores. Can I use that combination of flours for other things too? Since I'm not a pro baker I don't understand if the flours made is so good or the combination of the other ingredients! Here's the recipe...
  12. ...and it just gets more confusing!!!
  13. And the biopsy would only show damage if she's consuming gluten? I guess the reason for the test would be the ability to tell family that she tested positive so they don't think I'm some nutjob mom who is overreacting to normal gas pains, vomiting and diaper rash. I feel like if I say "gluten intolerant" people tend to blow it off but testing positive for...
  14. Wow David! Thanks so much for all of the great info. I think we have one very small Asian market so I'll check that out.
  15. After a few months of record keeping, our pediatrician gave us the diagnosis of gluten intolerance. She's been gluten free for about a month, well she sneaks dog food so I guess she really isn't gluten-free Anyway, part of me wants to know if it's Celiac and the other part of me doesn't care, she can't have it and that's that! So, I asked her doc to include...
  16. I tried Bob's Red Mill flour mix for pancakes on Sunday-yuck! So, I want to make the Nearly Normal mix but the ingredients are so expensive and hard to find. I know that so many of you make your own flour mix-where do you buy your ingredients? Not only are they pricey but it seems impossible to find all of them at one place? Do you shop at a store or...
  17. I mixed crushed Rice Chex with brown rice flour and seasoned with garlic, salt and parsley. It was a great breading for walleye-I was a little worried going into lent without any clue about how to fry fish without gluten!
  18. DD2 is newly diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance. She's only 13 months old so I'm not having too much difficulty with her diet because she's still nursing and still mainly eating whole foods. She goes to daycare 1 day a week and her grandma's 1 day a week. Her daycare providers are great with her limitations but I'm sure that here are a few who are clueless...
  19. My 12 month old daughter was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Some people (not her doc) are urging me to test for Celiac. She's been gluten-free for over a month so I know some of the bloodwork would be negative. What about the genetic test-what is it called? What other tests would give accurate results? BTW, I will not have the biopsy done, so it...
