  1. My DD just had her MMR and reacted horribly with an eczema flare up. I can honestly say she would have been better off getting the illnesses themselves. No more vaccines for her. One of her doctors thinks the reaction my be due to a B vitamin defiency due to her gluten-free diet. I agree with the PP about spreading them out if you're getting them.
  2. If I'm understanding your question I would guess no. You either are or aren't gluten intolerant, it's in your DNA. I'm nursing a 10 week old and worry about making him GI if I eat too much OR avoid gluten. I think we are too quick to blame ourselves sometimes. I'll be watching everyone else's replies!
  3. I'm no expert but my LO (Mary) did go through the same thing at the same age. 1. Is vomitting a symptom of celiac in infants? *Mary would throw up after eating anything-grains or anything! I think her gut was just such a mess she couldn't handle anything but breastmilk-and thank God for that! 2. How accurate is testing for kids this young? *I...
  4. I also have a 2 yo that is gluten-free. We haven't found a pizza crust that she likes, but she's never had wheat crust so I think she just doesn't like pizza! Today is her birthday, she's 2 today and I'm thinking about getting some gluten-free english muffins to make a tiny pizza for her. If I don't do that it's mac & cheese. Here's my very favorite...
  5. That's what I did. Not on purpose I just couldn't stand to spend the crazy amounts of money! I'm not gluten-free, but my 2 year old is so I gave it up to learn to cook gluten-free. It's been over a year for her and I still make a lot of "flops" but for the most part we happily eat gluten-free meals and desserts all the time.
  6. From what I've read, the gluten-free bread doesn't need the 2nd knead cycle? That setting is specifically for the gluten-free flours. That's why we bought the Breadman.
  7. My 23 month old has been gluten free for over a year now, well longer than that but that's when our doc finally said No Gluten! Anyway, she has never been upset over not getting a piece of cake, a cookie, mac & cheese, etc. that her cousins have at their grandmas house. I try to take a little something that's a good substitute but occasionally (well...
  8. I made a batch of cornbread that absorbed an odd flavor from my iron skillet. I was thinking about drying it out and making crumbs. Can these crumbs be used in meatballs or meatloaf? I was thinking the beef and spices would easily cover up the weird flavor and I won't have to feed the whole cornbread to my chickens!
  9. I made it, I think I used the 2 lb loaf/gluten free setting. I wound up with a "ribbon" of undercooked bread through the center of the bread. The ends were fine, and delicious but I'm afraid to wreck another loaf! If you try it out will you post your results?
  10. I think I'm going to try them, they're pretty cheap.
  11. DD1 just got an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas, she's not gluten-free. DD2 is Gluten Intolerant and I would love for them to be able to share in the fun of "baking". Have any of you tried any mini recipes that are gluten-free?
  12. I have that same "paranoid" thought all the time!!!! If it were me, I'd make another gluten-free batch and then just eat the others ourselves. Again, if it were me, and I believed regular cookies were being passed off as gluten-free, I'd say something like "Hmmm...she's not been feeling well the past few days. Tummy ache/diarrhea/etc." No reaction necessary...
  13. I'll definately try the Bisquick, so far I've really liked everything I've made with it!
  14. I would like to make my own pizza dough but all of the recipes I've found seem to call for a ton of ingredients...as well as a flour blend. I really want to make a yeast dough but I'd settle for tasty! I make my own nearly normal blend so I do keep a blend on hand. Thanks in advance!
  15. I absoutely love gluten-free Bisquick for pancakes. I really think they taste just like regular Bisquick pancakes. I use whole milk and I've topped them with applesauce, yogurt or syrup and really just can't say enough about that mix. I tried it for their Impossible Cheesburger Pie and the whole family loved it.
  16. We bought a Breadman bread machine yesterday and made a loaf using gluten-free Pantry favorite sandwich bread mix. WOW! That's good stuff. DD2 (almost 2 yrs), who is our only gluten intolerant one, loved the bread......she hates bread We are thrilled to say the least! I, of course, want to make bread with herbs and cheeses but I don't want to spoil...
  17. My cookies get crumbly too. I just look at it as excuse to eat a lot of cookies fresh out of the oven I wonder if storing them with a piece of bread would work? I just made some and kept the dough in the fridge (or freezer would work too) and baked a dozen or two as I needed them.
  18. I'm feeling so so lazy today. Just remembered I have gluten-free Bisquick so I'm making Impossible Cheesburger Pie. Quick, tasty and easy but not necessarily healthy
  19. I do now. At Thanksgiving (at my house) everyone watched as DD2 walked around with a Saltine cracker. I grabbed it out of her hand, frustrated because noone had let me know. My mother (gluten-free herself) said something like well, it was only a little bite. That was my perfect opportunity to address a stiuation over the summer-she had accidentally (I...
  20. Okay, I'm good with the squash and cornbread but what is the oven risotto all about?
  21. DD1 & 2 loved the cookies, DH thought they were good as well. I hated them-no more bean flours here! Then again, I'm pregnant, plus my sense of smell has always been more sensitive then most. I can tell the recipe was awesome so I can't wait to try again with my own flour mix!
  22. We have chickens so the eggs were safe I'm thinking it's the bean flours, that must be the way I taste it. I'm going to bake a test batch in a little while, I'm hoping they're okay!
  23. I just mixed up a batch of Snickerdoodles, got the dough in the fridge and then DD1 and I licked the beaters to "make sure it tastes ok"! Well, surprise, it's GROSS !!! I have never had this happen before. I ran out of my homemade flour mix so I used Bob's Rd Mill gluten-free All Purpose Baking Flour instead. Am I crazy or did that mix make my cookie...
  24. Love this thread! We had a venison roast in the crockpot yesterday. I made it with carrots, celery and potatoes. Tonight I'm making gravy out of the "juice" and leftover meat and veggies.
