  1. Open Original Shared Link Of particular use to you will be the list of companies with a clear gluten disclosure policy. With thos brands, you just read the label. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley or oats, by name, they aren't there.
  2. Lisa hasn't been on for a few weeks, but I believe that she was referring to Open Original Shared Link. As far as I know, it is the only gluten-free beer available in Canada. In Ontario, you can buy it at the government monopoly liquor store.
  3. I'm here, but don't have anything worthwhile phun to contribute.
  4. Welcome to the board. What test, specifically, has the 51 result? There are several tests related to celiac, and they have different ranges for positive. Many celiacs can tolerate oats, but the oats must be absolutely pure. Most oats in North America are contaminated with wheat from a variety of sources. Testing of Quaker's oats have shown some of the...
  5. I'm not sure how far inland the mandatory evacuation zone stretches. If she is north of I-12, then she is at least five miles inland from the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. Thinking about you, dksart. Be safe.
  6. I think that you have to investigate the place and decide for yourself. Any restaurant carries an automatic cross-contamination risk. A place that has a gluten-free menu is at least aware of the issue, and is probably taking steps to minimize the risk. There is a restaurant we like to go to in Toronto that has many gluten-free options....
  7. Yes, it is gluten-free. I have used it for years, since long before my diagnosis. Unilever will clearly disclose any gluten source on the label.

  9. I seldom eat chocolate, but I have never had a reaction to Hershey's kisses. I do eat them in small amounts occasionally.
  10. Most ice cream is gluten-free. It is not possible to make a sweeping generalization based on the brand--there are too many variables. When gluten is in ice cream, it is typically in something added to the formula to create a specific flavor. I don't know of any ice cream that uses a gluten ingredient to provide texture (there may be one that I don't know...
  11. The name is not mentioned in the film's dialog, nor is it in the original book. It is revealed in the fourth book in the series, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz.
  12. Yes, I really do.
  13. Hmmm. Hazel, 1954. And I don't mean Mississauga mayor-for-life Open Original Shared Link. Ah, the wonders of Technicolor. In the original work by L. Frank Baum, "...just under the corner of the great beam the house rested on, two feet were sticking out, shod in silver shoes with pointed toes." For the movie in Technicolor, ruby slippers were substituted...
  14. I have two published (printed) sources that state that maltose is gluten-free. They are: Gluten-Free Diet, A Comprehensive Resource Guide, Expanded Edition by Shelley Case, BSc, RD, ISBN 1-897010-28-1. Acceptability of Foods and Food Ingredients for the Gluten-Free Diet, Pocket Dictionary published by the Canadian Celiac Association, ISBN 0-921026-...
  15. Under the US law effective January 1, 2006, wheat must be disclosed by the word "wheat." No other words are acceptable under the law. Even ordinary flour must be labeled as "wheat flour," "flour (wheat)" or a statement under the ingredients in the same size type stating "Contains: Wheat." There is no minimum which can be overlooked. Rye, barley and oats...
  16. LlamaLady is back! Yahoo! My phunny is slowly coming back. I laughed today.
  17. Let's think about oats, then. I said oats, not goats. Here in Canada there is no such thing as gluten-free oats. In Canada, by law, a product labeled as, or represented to be, "gluten free" can not contain wheat, rye, barley, oats, or any derivative part thereof, period. There is no maximum level, it simply can not be there at all, even if the proteins...
  18. I have been a Firefox user for two and a half years and love it. Prior to that I used Netscape Navigator. I have never been a fan of Internet Exploder, but there are a couple of sites where it is the only thing that works.
  19. I had mixed feelings. I was very pleased to finally know what was causing all my health problems, and that I could fix it by changing my diet. I was unhappy about how restricted my lifestyle would be on the gluten-free diet. That was in 2000--there are so many more gluten-free foods available today than then. No more quick burgers at McD or calling...
  20. Congratulations, Laura, on the occasion.
  21. The board does not allow images to be included inside posts. The tag is inoperative on this board. Here is one of your images as a clickable link Click on the Quote Reply button...
  22. Go to "My Controls." Under "Options" at the lower left, choose "Board Settings." Your time zone settings will be at the top on the right. Select your time zone, and check the appropriate DST options. Go down to the bottom of the screen and click the Change my account options button. This will save your changes--otherwise they will be lost.
  23. Welcome aboard! Nini is no longer registered as a member here, but her web site still exists. Open Original Shared Link The newbie links are at the bottom of the page. I don't think that they have been updated lately, so take product gluten-free status with a grain of salt.
  24. Directly underneath each character is an italicized number. To enter the character, press and hold <alt> while typing the 3-digit number on the key pad. If the character number is less than 100, you must type leading zeros so that a three-digit number is entered, but most of these characters can simply be typed.
