  1. I completely understand that for some people one fall off the wagon leads to staying off the wagon for months/years as in going back to eating gluten-containing products permanently. Surely there are some of you out there that had a relapse, one incident where you had the donut or the carrot cake or the whatever just because you wanted it really badly and...
  2. I have put on a few pounds since going gluten-free 4 weeks ago. This is most definitely the reason. I feel like I have to compensate so the few confectionery items I know I can have boy do I have them!!!I am trying to reign it in now before it gets out of hand.
  3. Thanks very much Psawyer. These things are good to know.
  4. Just wondering for those of you longer in the gluten-free lifestyle, TMI ALERTdid you find that if you ingested gluten accidentally that the back of your throat filled up with phlegm? After dinner tonight it happened. gluten-free pasta with home made arrabiata sauce. Only possible query I have is with some tomato paste/puree (ingredients in Arabic so really...
  5. Would love to try any of these but where I live gluten-free products are thin on the ground. There were a couple of other soy sauces in the shop that didn't look like they contained wheat so might try one of those next.
  6. My consultant told me that the amount of antibody your body produces in response to gluten is directly proportional to how much gluten (i.e. the antigen) that your body is exposed to. So if you get a few crumbs by CC, in theory (unless you are EXTREMELY sensitive) the reaction should be a lot milder then if you were to say consume a slice of bread. I am a...
  7. Still coming to grips with the label reading. Trying to find a substitute for soy sauce. Found this product in my local shop and these are the ingredients. Can anyone shed any light on them? Ingredients: Water, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Glucose Iodized Salt, Monosodium Glutamate, Sugar, Natural Color, Iron EDTA Citric Acid, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium...
  8. This is exactly what has happened to me. Feeling great the first 3 weeks but since Sunday I've been back to square one. I suspect I got glutened on Saturday night, I had risotto, totally forgetting that if they were using a commercial stock it probably had flour in it. If it's not that, I think it's this gluten-free bread I bought. I had it week 1 & ...
  9. I felt your comment was very unsympathetic and derisive. Very surprising given that you are a moderator. It must be nice to have forgotten what it was like at the start of a gluten free diet.
  10. I feel your pain. I live next door to you (UAE)and am finding it tough too due to the lack of gluten-free food but even worse the labeling of the food is DIRE . I haven't deliberately eaten gluten yet but I have toyed with the idea, bad I know. Going gluten free is a MAJOR change of lifestyle. You can't be expected to get it right straight away. I have...
  11. I have been on a gluten-free diet for over 3 weeks now and have eaten at buffets a number of times. In all cases I have asked to speak to the chef in person and they have told me all the ingredients in each and every dish on offer. I haven't eaten anything with sauce or dressing just stuck to the plain food, salads, fruit and cheese. I am well aware that there...
  12. This happened me last week. I was only a few days into my gluten-free diet and trying my hardest when into the staff lunch room arrives a huge black forest gateau, a chocolate cake and a box of dunkin' donuts. I felt really sorry for myself but I didn't give in but boy it was tough. Prior to my positive diagnosis I'd have had all 3!!!
  13. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. At the moment it's trying to work out what I can and can't have is the most confusing. Nutritionally I was very clued in before this so reading labels is not proving difficult. I am pretty worried about cross contamination though. My husband has decided to go gluten free as well. The only things we have in the...
  14. Hey everyone, I'm a newby here. Just found out a few days ago I'm a celiac. Gluten antibody levels in my blood tests were sky high. Had an endoscopy last Tuesday and will have results of that in about 8 days time. Consultant told me to start preparing and reading up on a gluten-free diet as he is pretty sure my samples will confirm it. I am still pretty...
