  1. I've had too many experience like the ones listed to even begin. Just alittle tip for everyone... I've learned to just tell the waiter/waitress that I am allergic to flour. They will look at you with the same weird expression but it alleviates them from a lot of the thinking they can't seem to handle. On the reverse side, I once had a waitress who realized...
  2. Hi, I will be visiting Woodstock with my husband next weekend and would love any suggestions for places to eat. Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone, I am 26 living in NYC with my wonderfully supportive husband. I was diagnosed w/celiac disease a little over a year ago thru blood tests. I have had symptoms for as long as I could remember and never understood why I was always sick. I had horrible migraines, bone pain in my legs, tingling in my toes, was always exhausted and taking naps, and...
  4. Hi, I was told to go back on gluten for a preiod of three months by Dr. Green of the Celiac Disease Center in NYC. It's been 2 months and I feel horrible but I have been told that even if I have started feeling symptoms, it may still not be enough time to see anything via endoscopy. 3 months is a safe bet
  5. Hi, I actually have this problem when I am not off gluten. I had it for years before I knew I had celiac disease and it stopped when I went off gluten. I am now back on gluten for a short period to have an endoscopy and within 2 weeks of eating it again, my leg pains came back.
  6. I am so relieved to know I am not the only one. I am on my computer looking for answers at 2 am b/c I can't stand the itching anymore. I have tried warms baths, tucks pads, every anti itch cream on the market and suppositories. At first, they worked for a few hours at a time. Now they work for about 5 minutes before the itching comes back. I am on my last...
  7. You might want to call the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC- they might be able to recommend a ped who is familiar with celiac disease.

ARCHIVED Looking For Dr. In Nyc Area

Dr. Peter Green is the best Celiac Dr in NYC. He is the Director of the Celiac Disease Center At Columbia uptown. The # is 212-305-5590. I would just be sure that he takes your insurance first b/c he is very expensive otherwise.
  9. SadiesMomma, Get a new Dr- if your current one is so horrible, why are you sticking around? I too had to beg my Dr for the bloodwork. I took the test on June 10 2003 and called the office for 2 weeks straight to find out the results. They did not call me back until July 3rd. When I asked them to fax me a copy of my bloodwork, it indicated that they recevied...
  10. Sara, you have a gluten-free kosher friend! I actually made really delicious hamentaschen last night. I found a basic recipe online and just substituted the regular flour with Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free Flour. I had to add about an extra 1/2 cup of the flour so that it wasn't so sticky but it worked really well. By the way, don't know if you live...
  11. According to my nutritionist (the nutritionist at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University), all Wrigley gum is Gluten Free. Big Red as always made my tongue numb- it's part of the cinammon flavor. It shouldn't have anything to do with celiac disease.
  12. too funny... I had my first appt with a nutritionist at the Celiac Disease Center in NYC. She started rambling off a bunch of normal candies that are definitely gluten free. I immediately thought of this post!
  13. I agree.. they never know if you bring food in. I always bring my own bag of microwave popcorn and sometimes even some grapes or other finger fruits. And besides, movie theater popcorn is highway robbery!
  14. Since we are on this topic... anyone know if Light n' Livey cottage cheese is gluten free? It's my favorite and I can't seem to find out. Thanks!
  15. Tarnalberry, You are correct. To deduct medical expenses, they must be a certain percentage of your total income. I am not sure exactly how much but an accountant would know.
  16. Unfortunately, it looks like most of their procust do have gluten but just in case anyone was wondering... Thank you for visiting the Aveda website. Referenced below is a list of products that contain Wheat/Oat/Millet/Rye/Barley. We recommend reviewing this list with your physician. Feel free to visit our website at Aveda.com or contact us again...
  17. LisB, didn't end up sleeping but my husband played Trivial Pursuit with me all night so at least we had some fun. I think it might have been from a new soap I tried- the soap had exfoliatin particles that might have been some kind of grain. I couldn't believe how stupid I was to use that soap! Anyway, going to try to soak in Epsom salts tonight. Heard that...
  18. It can feel very overwhelming at first but it gets easier with time. Check out this download (copy and paste to your browser): Open Original Shared Link Also, I would suggest a new GI.
  19. also check out glutenfreedrugs.com
  20. Thanks lil-nurse! I will definitely try those ideas. They did a skin biopsy but I won't get the results back for 7-10 days and I am going insane. I have to give 3 presentations at work this week and I am not sure how on earth I will survive thru them without scratching myself silly. My Dr prescribed a strong cortisone cream and an antihistamine but neither...
  21. Not to sound redundant but I can totally relate. For example, it is 2:13 am in NY and I have to wake up in 5 hours but I can't sleep b/c I have a terrible rash that is covering my entire body. I was diagnosed about 7 months ago and actually started feeling comfortable with being gluten free this werk. That is, until I broke out in this rash and can't stop...
  22. So funny... after having a sudden DH onset this week and feeling like crap all weekend, my husband has decided to get rid of all gluten in the home. He changed our shampoo, conditioner, moisturizers, soap, etc... and threw out all contaminated food and he isn't even gluten-free. Never even thought that I could get gluten in my system from kissing him!
  23. Thanks for replying. At least I know it will go away sooner or later. I have an appt wit a dermotologist this morning- hoping he can help.
  24. Hello, does anyone know of or attend a Celiac support group in New York City? Thanks! Erica
  25. Annie's also makes a really good gluten-free pizza with a rice crust- i think it is also dairy free. I've tried a lot of frozen ones and it is definitely the best so far. Also, if you have a Whole Foods near you, they sell frozen gluten-free pizza dough.
