  1. Lucia, Thanks for your post. Your story sounds very similar to mine. I share your sentiment - I cannot only trust my gut and that this illness is part of my genetic code. I do think there is a higher wisdom in living out this process and doing it as well as I can, then facing the next development, though I also find that disappointing. I'd rather believe...
  2. wow, I was new to the boards when I posted this and somehow missed your responses. I'm so glad I decided to go back and check. thank you for your responses. I really appreciate what you explained. I'm just starting to not feel overwhelmed with the dietary changes and have reduced soy, corn, and dairy in my diet and am starting to slowly build a better daily...
  3. I'm remembering to be grateful... being gluten free is improving the quality of my life dramatically. It's helping me face problems that I never could before. Yesterday I pushed my introverted self into a group activity. That was fine and stressful in all the normal ways. But when I came home I find that I can think through all my reactions about what I...
  4. The good part is that since going gluten free 4 months ago I've seen an incredible improvement in my ability to ride my bike. My balance is better which I'm hoping is gluten ataxia going away. Have others had this happen? The hard part is I still get drained of energy long before I'm physically tired. I am over 40 so I've been wondering if its age but...
  5. wood resin in gatorade???? I am trying to find an alternative to gatorade because I'm sensitive to it (I'm allergic to most food chemicals). I looked up the ingredients for gatorade and I'm guessing plantime was referring to ester gum. there seems to also be a variety of ester gum that is used as a wood varnish.
  6. I like Jestgar's comment - that's exactly how I feel. Only with the flu there are more familiar and clear signals as to why and when I need rest. With this the unpredictability can be frustrating. I am 4 months gluten free and still have ups and downs with healing. My sense of it is that as my body go thru phases of recovering I need rest.
  7. Thanks Lisa. I will be seeing my doctor in two weeks so I'l ask her, as well as concentrating on diet. I'm taking supplements now also, so maybe that's helping.
  8. Thanks for the information on Enterolab and yes, I'm ok with it not being peer reviewed. If the medical decisions I made were based on medical approval, I'd be dying right now. I suspect my doctor is not going to help me with an elimination diet but I'll ask after I get the blood work back. My remaining symptoms though are not digestive. that's the tricky...
  9. Sue, I remember being told about the ELISA test many years ago but at the time was poor (and very sick) so the cost was too much. This is more comprehensive than what I am going in for. Can I get this test done thru my doctor by requesting it? Same question about the Enterlab stool test. Can I ask my doctor to do it? If she says no to either test...
  10. Since finding out I have celiac (a monumental feat) I am trying to figure out if I have any other food allergies. I have been to an allergist and she is going to do a blood test for food allergies and environmental allergies. I'm wondering if there are different kinds of food allergy tests? Any advice? I've done rotational diets so that I missed the gluten...
  11. I know that gluten causes brain fog, depression and anxiety. I have all three but they have dramatically lessened since eliminating gluten several months ago. I still struggle very hard with reading/writing/expressing thoughts that require more concentration. Something simple like recalling what channel a tv show that I enjoyed was on, or even what happened...
  12. that's so neat! and encouraging... how did you come up with that smoothie concoction? I'm actually trying to figure out how to get enough calories of the right kind in the morning. I'm certain once I do that it will even me out (particularly the snacking) for the rest of the day. I've heard that it's a sign of health too and I'm hoping it's true
  13. Has anyone else found that they're eating patterns have changed enormously since being diagnosed with celiac? I used to never be able to eat breakfast, ate a late lunch, snacked a lot, and my main meal was late afternoon/evening. Now I seem to NEED a 400 calorie breakfast, a 500 calorie lunch and dinner matters only if I've been active. It's so different...
  14. In my upbringing colon cleanses were a basic way to deal with constipation. I'm not sure why they are perceived as hard on the body - it might be something about how they are done here. But it's just a saline solution. Use it, wait for a bowel movement, then eat very little and only gentle food such as soft rice with a little salt and butter or bananas. Limit...
  15. Have you heard of fasts for celiac? Because fasting (as a baseline before re-introducing foods) worked so well for asthma I'd like to do the same for celiac. It's nice because it makes it very clear what fits and what doesn't. Incidentally, I feel heavy and weigh 2 pounds more than usual after one day.
  16. Has anyone else done a brown rice fast? How did it go? I am doing the fast now. I used to do it for asthma and it worked like a charm. I'm not so sure if it's working now, but I haven't been bloated today and it's been quite a while since that happened. thanks for your thoughts.
  17. I was diagnosed with celiac about 2 months ago. Overall, it's been a great relief. The head fog is clearing, my sense of balance is improving, and that tiring sense of malaise and deep exhaustion is going away a bit more each day. I have also had almost no spring allergies. So onto my story -- because of an accident, job change, and a move, I spent...
