  1. About 6 months prior to diagnosis I gained 4 - 6 pounds which have never come off, even after taking gluten out of my diet (a year now) I had been the same weight for 20+ years. I'm petite so 4- 6 pounds is a size change and my belly protrudes and sags so by appearance and feel this is extra weight that I don't need. But maybe the weight gain is another...
  2. I really sympathize. Have you tried a full complement of amino acids? I'm trying to figure out the celiac connection - I think it has something to do with protein absorption. regardless I've seen a big improvement in energy and mental clarity. Otherwise, if it is celiac caused, it may be that not enough time has passed. I've been off gluten for a year and...

    ARCHIVED Amino Acids - Safe?

A few months ago I started taking amino acids. It started because I found out that lysine SIGNIFICANTLY improves the persistent rashes on my chin. I still get them but they recede quickly (and leave unsightly scars but that's a separate issue). So one day, I decided if one amino acid could do so much good why not take all of them? It's been about...
  4. Thanks all! Just came back from dinner at Sushi-ko and so far I feel completely fine! I was much more aggressive (yes, aggressive is the right choice of word - it was necessary too) about making sure my meal was gluten free and because there are so many of us, they had gluten free tamari so it was easy.
  5. Many thanks for your replies. Does anyone eat at indian restaurants? Does that work out ok? And what about Burmese or Caribbean - are those ok? I figure if I don't eat soy I'm better off..?
  6. I've been almost a year gluten free and this week I cheated twice this week with soy sauce in my food. And right away I've been sleeping 12 hours a night, both times the night after eating the soy sauce. And today I have peripheral neuropathy - numbness and tingling all over my body!! I hate that! Please tell me how to manage eating out. My primary restaurant...
  7. Can you also send your homeopath's name to me? I'm in Washington DC. Thank you & I'm glad you found your doctor. That's in some ways the hardest part!
  8. I have had great success with Betaine. I take it as needed when I'm having trouble with asthma. It very quickly soothes the queasy stomach symptoms that I get and also shortens the recovery time from the asthma. I find that I can't take it for than a few days though because it raises my acidity too high. But otherwise it's wonderful.
  9. oops there's no way to delete a post -- i started to write but now need to run -- sorry!
  10. From my experience it might be that your body is going thru the big post-gluten free diet change. The weight change may be only one thing that is changing. Going gluten free has required me to live very healthy - eat at "healthy" times, balanced appropriate meals, full compliment of vitamins, get enough exercise and sleep...it's kind of nice but a huge change...
  11. ravenwoodglass - Good luck with the job hunt! I've been mulling whether to dye too - with celiac I am not sure if it's the right thing to do (not to mention the cost). But I did get highlights before getting my current job. It helped me feel ready.
  12. I also found that increasing my intake of vitamins helped with sugar. I'm not sure what combination is best but there was a direct correlation for me. Also, I was told to take a liquid vitamin because they digest easier.
  13. Thanks Your message gives me heart too!! It's so easy to say ok down with one symptom on to the next (there are so many, not to mention all the symptoms that pass in stages) and easy to miss the progress being made... There's something about itching that is more maddening than the other symptoms. What a relief to be talking about this!
  14. I hear you -- the only way I was able to make the dietary changes was with the support of my acupuncture doc. I'm fortunate that my insurance covers some of it because I was seriously losing my mind. So if this forum is working post often! I'll add that the results of the dietary change have also been awe inspiring. This last week I've been gaining back...
  15. Thanks Funny it hadn't occurred to me that something was actually getting better!
  16. yes, and I'm still dealing with the itchiness 10 months later. Hopefully that won't be your story. I did find that eliminating some irritants besides gluten (soy, dairy, nuts, chocolate) and reducing salt and sugar has helped. I have also found that if I take a quick hot shower at night and put apple cider vinegar on my skin, I can almost sleep thru...
  17. I like the idea about soy in the rotisserie. The fish I prepared at home but I've been cooking it from frozen (per the instruction) rather than thawing..maybe that's it? I have noticed though, that this week I can eat lentil and other bean varieties with no problem. And that had been a big problem before, I hadn't been able to digest it. So I think I...
  18. Over this past week rotisserie chicken and fish have given me stomach aches. The ache is manageable but coupled with bloating and constipation. Plus I get that still hungry feeling that leads to the perpetual snacking. It seems to last about 8 hours. Is this another food intolerance? I don't think it's a proper allergy because just a few weeks ago these...
  19. This may not be the route you want to go but I switched from prilosec to aloe vera juice (I mix 3 oz twice a day with a fruit juice) and it's been very helpful. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  20. I had a similar symptom except that I also had a strong tingling sensation in my body also. I cut my sugar intake way back and it has helped tremendously. I removed fruit, sweet potatoes, cut back on carrots, and of course all sugared foods including chocolate. It was complicated to figure out how to remove sugar but worth the effort. I don't get the racing...
  21. I was wondering if someone could explain lectin content and it's affect on digestion. I'm taking chicken out of my diet now because I'm feeling awful (again) after eating rotisserie chicken. It's not worth it. Thanks.
  22. The lemon juice that I know about is: one tall glass filtered water, juice from 1/2 lemon, lime or key lime, 1 tsp or more honey and salt to taste. This drink of one of those old home remedies for many things from colds to constipation. I drink this periodically, as does some of my family. It's not something one has to drink every day, I only use it when...
  23. By any chance did you come up with something to drink? I'm not sure if I have fructose intolerance but I know I cannot tolerate sugar when I exercise. I'm at a loss on what to take with me on longer bike rides or harder workouts.
  24. Thanks for your thoughts! I'm not sure about Dr. Fasano's source but I'm guessing experience since he specializes in celiac. As for the tingling, thanks for your ideas. I had not considered mold but that's a definite possibility. I'm not the only one who feels a bit icky in this building. In the last few days the tingles have been decreasing....
  25. I'm 11 months gluten-free and haven't lost any weight, I actually gained and am having to work to keep from gaining more. My appetite and eating patterns have changed Dramatically since going gluten-free and I'm still having to adjust. Now every calorie I eat really does count. If your body is still changing in response to the gluten-free it might just be...
