  1. Thank you for your input. I've been using coconut oil lately for it's antimicrobial properties. I've been using it for about three months now. It has not bothered me in the past and that's why I don't get what is happening now. Completely stumped. Can the gluten free diet alter thhe body's response to other foods?
  2. I am frying them myslef with gluten free ingredients. Haven't dared to go out to a restaurant yet.
  3. I was diagnosed with gluten sensitive enteropathy last month. I have been gluten free for almost two months. For the last few days,I have kept a food diary. If I eat food with fried foods, I have loose stools the next day with oil floating in the bowl. (Sorry, this is so embarrassing.) Why is this happening?
  4. Hi Trymester, I too am allergic to corn and soy. I have used a combination of rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca flour to replace my wheat flour (proportions can be found on the King Arthur Flour web site, it is located at the bottom of their gluten free recipes). It helps if you can make as much homemade food as you can. Bob's Red Mill has a gluten...
  5. Hope her tip reflected the quality of her service. Sorry your night went so poorly.
  6. Thank you Raven and Wheatchef for your responses. Your common sense approach and experience is much appreciated. When I tested pos. for wheat allergy (gluten) the doctor told me to ue the four day rotational diet. Permission to cheat every four days. Sounded great. Now I know I shouldn't cheat. Shift in attitutde.I just want to do what's right for me...
  7. Thank you for this info. I was wondering why all of my other symptoms are getting better except for the eczema on my hands. My hand lotion has gluten in it.
  8. That's a tough one. When my kids were little, we let them trick or treat. Once we got home, they "traded" me their offensive candies for some homemade treats. I made fudge, brownies, mini cup cakes, ect. and cut and wrapped them up into bite sized pieces. The trading process extended the thrill of trick or treating. The kids didn't mind giving up their...
  9. My history is: been contipatated since my fist memories, depressed since kindergarten, dx'ed IBS in 1984, dx'ed hypothyroid in 2003, IgG pos. for wheat, dairy, egg, corn in 2004ish, bloating after meals, and I get nauseated after eating dairy. After doing some research, I went gluten free in Sept. Went to my doctor last week, he did some blood work. ...
  10. Hi Marilyn and Miss'ysmom, I like your suggestions. It is amazing how entrenched wheat is in our diet. It is hard to think around it sometimes. Thank you for your help. The kids appreciate it a lot.
  11. Thank you ladies. I will plan a menu and stock the fridge up on the weekend. Next week should be much easier. They will like your suggestions. I like this place.
  12. We have been gluten free for about 4 weeks now. Meals are generally going well. My teens however are looking for quick and easy meals to eat at the end of their days. Naturally, they don't want leftovers from dinner, but more like homemade convenience foods. We are also allergic to dairy. Any suggestions?
  13. Hi Mandy, This could be a good time to reduce your dependence on grains and shift more to fruits and veggies as snacks. Our family has been gluten free for three weeks now. I try to have a bowl of fruit or on the table each day for snacks instead of crackers etc. Take care. Jeanne
  14. Hi srall, Couldn't your pastor give you a gluten free host without dipping it in the wine first? I'm sure he would understand.
  15. Hi GFinDC, I start on this whole adventure by reading a book about Hashi's. It is called "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms?" by Dr. Datis Kharrazian. He strongly recommends a gluten free diet and my symptoms all match Hashimoto. I think you are right though about the testing. I should have gotten tested first. Too impulsive. I regret that...
  16. Hi Takala, Wow! It will take me quite some time to digest the info you gave me. Thank you for the research materials. I don't understand what you meant about refining the No Starch Diet. I have been preparing the NSD for my husband for seven months now. It seems to me that by eliminating starch, gluten is also eliminated. Everything he eats is...
  17. Hi Elk, A functional doctor can be a MD, DO, or a chiropracter. He focuses the patient's treatment on the cause of the disease, not just the sypmtoms. For example, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism seven years ago. The conventional doctor gave me Synthroid. He treated my symptoms only. No explanation as to why my thyroid is loosing it ablility to...
  18. There is a post on youtube from a man named Sean Croxton from Underground Wellness. He is an athlete trainer and is into holistic and functional medicine. He says that he is dairy intolerant to regular pasturized milk, but his able to drink raw milk without any problems. The pasturization process destroys the natural enzymes in the milk that make us able...
  19. I don't know about the tissue transglutimase thing. The allergist took a sample of blood, said we were all IgG pos. for wheat. We are also pos for dairy, soy, eggs, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, ect. I did go gluten free about two weeks ago. I don't trust the doctors. Between the false negatives and different approaches which deny eachother, I don't trust...
  20. Hi. I am new here. I have been studying about autoimmune dieases on the internet with the functional medicine approach. They try to locate the source of the medical problem and not just treat the symptoms. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism seven years ago. I was tested pos. for IgG antibodies for gluten about 8 years ago (my eight children are also...
