  1. Are Parsnips and Turnips Root Vegetables (and Nightshades) and should I be avoiding them if I have an ulcer? I'm making stew tomorrow and I've discovered that I can't handle potatoes. Just adding carrots is a little boring. Worse case is that I just make it for my husband but I'd love to be able to eat it too. Thanks! Loey
  2. Unfortunately with Celiac I believe that we have to live with our dietary restrictions for the rest of our lives (please correct me if I'm wrong as I was only diagnosed in June). I am EXTREMELY sensitive to many foods that are gluten free right now so I'm sticking t a diet of rice, veggies and eggs. If I stray from that I pay for it. I made gluten-free...
  3. Oh Rachelle - that more than sucks!!!! We're just thankful that nothing happened to you physically. And how could you possibly sleep? I hope that the scum who did this is caught!!!!!!!! Sending you more big ((((HUGS)))) and lots of positive energy (plus a few cyber tubes of waterproof gluten-free mascara) Loey P.S. I'm currently on hold with...
  4. As someone newly diagnosed but with no villi currently in my duodenal I agree with Kareng and would highly recommend not taking any chances. My celiac went undiagnosed for decades and now I have also been diagnosed with an ulcer. I eat a very limited diet and still don't feel well. Please take are of yourself and keep your future health in mind. We don't...
  5. Anything we can help you with??? Hugs, Loey
  6. It certainly saved the day yesterday. I don't think I could have done my errands or made dinner without it. I survived our company (actually enjoyed it). He's a co-worker of my husband who was transferred like we were except his wife didn't come with him (she loves her job). He's a bachelor during the week so it was nice to make him a home cooked meal...
  7. (((((Big Hugs))))) to you Rachelle - Hope your day gets better. We luf you!!!! Loey
  8. Hang in there Judy!!! If you scroll up yesterday Jess and Patti gave me a bunch of recipes to make for my company. I wound up making the apple crumble. There is a discussion group on cooking under forums and many different threads can be found there. I plan on getting together a bunch of Spanish recipes to share (Klark's family is from Spain originally ...
  9. That bites it. I went to a restaurant that my GI recommended for their gluten-free menu except they didn't bring what I ordered out correctly. We had waited so long for the meal that I just ordered a second appetizer. The Triumph Dining series has cards you can purchase that are laminate and in several languages (cuisines). One side is in English, the...
  10. No apologies are ever needed here for whining. I agree that if it's possible you should try to get a mini fridge for your dorm room. I don't think that they allow microwaves. As far as the absences there are laws that the colleges have to abide to and again, in agreement with other posts, perhaps your parents can write a letter. You should not be punished...
  11. Thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to bake my first gluten-free pie crust from scratch!!! Loey
  12. I don't think anyone here would ever doubt that you're being CC'd by inhaling gluten. I have had it happen in the market when I walk by a bread sample. We're all here to support each other and no one is going to do anything other than that. Some people might have stronger reactions than others and some people might not get CC'd. All you're going to get...
  13. Thanks for restarting the thread. I know how much work goes into it! Loey
  14. I can't handle soy at all and at this time I don't think I can handle corn (I'm still on the elimination diet and haven't reentered it). But for me Soy tends to be the worst offender. Loey
  15. All I can say is Holy Crap!!!!! Loey
  16. I am one lucky girl! Make that three of us who love sweets! I think I'm going to make an apple crisp (although the other recipes sound delicious) because my oven will be tied up. I can prep the crisp and then bake it while we have dinner. Can you tell I'm not motivated about having company tonight? For some reason I still haven't snapped back from the...
  17. Wish I could remember which thread has the video of an Indian doctor talking about just this. That celebrities and other people want to go on the gluten free diet to lose weight but it isn't necessarily healthy for them and it is the ONLY way we can eat. I would love to be able to have a slice of pizza as I remember it ( and I can't even have the gluten...
  18. And what time should I show up for dinner? Loey P.S. hope your cold is better. I'm actually making two ducks for Thanksgiving dinner. We never eat the norm in my household.
  19. I'm sure I can do one of these. Going to look at the recipes. Need to get the lasagna in the oven 5 ish so if I'm baking ahead of time I have to get a move on. My supermarket usually carries these delicious brownies (that I can't eat anymore) but of course they were out of them! I was afraid to try the Betty Crocker because of possibly getting CC'd by the...
  20. I can't but they can. This or one of Jess' sounds great. Thank you both!!!! Loey
  21. Right now I can't eat any or most of the starches. I can eat the buckwheat flour I just bought, baking soda, baking powder, I think I can have molasses (I found out that the arrowhead mills buckwheat flour was CC'd so I'm guessing that was the problem not the molasses). I also used brown sugar and think I can use regular sugar and eggs. Loey
  22. or in their case to whine ... Loey and if we're still on our time check its 3:04 PM here
  23. God Bless You!!!! I just looked at the gluten-free Betty Crocker box when I was at the market and I'm allergic to most of the ingredients. Guess my husband and our guest will go without dessert unless I get ambitious (and I think making them a veggie lasagna that I can't eat was pretty ambitious anyway). Perhaps I'll serve them gluten-free cookies that are...
  24. Thanks for the speedy reply. If I wasn't having company for dinner I'd just deal with it but I haven't even showered and want to get salad ingredients and either bake something for dessert or buy a gluten-free dessert my grocery store carries. Did I ever tell you that jerseyangel is a fitting name for you? You certainly are an angel! Loey
  25. Just remember that nightshades can be a big problem for some of us. I find this frustrating because I love a stir fry of zucchini, eggplant and mushrooms but have to just use zucchini. As I mentioned before we all seem to have our individual problems and allergies on top of the Celiac. I had to chuckle when you mentioned google, Chelle because I've been finding...
