  1. My son was diagnosed fairly recently, and he is slightly (like 5 lbs or so) overweight. Definitely not underweight! I'm not sure about the reasoning behind WHY this is - but, heard it's not that uncommon.
  2. ::bump:: I love that show! 2nd anyone who knows when it will air!!
  3. OK - I'm a little confused after meeting with the nutrition "specialist" at my son's doctor's office. For one thing she said his IGA level was high at 57, while his IGG level (which she said was more reliable for celiac) was low. In her "opinion" [but she stressed she wasn't speaking as a doctor] DS has a definate wheat intolerance, but she couldn't say...
  4. We tried the Gluten Free Pantry frend bread/pizza crust mix and it was pretty good! My son said he LOVED it and ate two pieces!
  5. Yep - strong Irish background, as well as English, Scottish, and German. NOt sure about DH's background other than German
  6. I should have clarified that statement... that was made when his allergies were acting up (very itchy eyes/stuffy nose) and his skin rash was TERRIBLE (doc at the time said excema... now I'm thinking maybe DH?) I'll check into R.O.C.K. I am going to a celiac disease group meeting w/my mother later this month also.
  7. Our WholeFoods has mini, kid-sized shopping carts. My son LOVES to go shopping for his own foods. That's a really cool idea! THanks- I bet he'd really like that. And - it'd make him more "in charge" of the celiac disease. Thanks!
  8. Well - my test result is in. I'm NEGATIVE. When I told DH (over the phone-I'm out of town this week) he said I sounded disappointed. I didn't even really realize it myself at first... but in a way... I am. I should be happy, but w/DS's dx I really assumed I did have it (as my mother and grandmother do/did) and thought this would be something we would...
  9. No suggestions... but, my sons also don't like Enviro Kidz cereals. But, they do like ham and eggs! So... so far I've just been alternating between the Pebbles cereals and eggs in the AM - I think I'll try some pancakes next week.
  10. I would get it checked by a specialist (or someone who can test it). Because of my son's allergies they immediately thought "excema"... now they are reconsidering that DX since we know about the gluten issue.
  11. It's funny - I actually just ordered a "Wheat Sucks" shirt! And... I also ordered a Silly Yak shirt for both my Mom (who has celiac disease) AND my son! (Wheat Sucks is more my husband's style)
  12. Well, after DH asked me about letting DS "cheat", I showed him some facts (both from here and books)... then... I left for a week out of state (starting yesterday). Sooo DH tried a foray to Burger King... he went online first and checked their policies out "they "say" they have dedicated fyers so the fries are not contaminated w/the breading from chicken...
  13. This is fairly new to us... but... I would like to take the "hard core" (as DH calls it) approach and take DS off gluten completely. He says that his granmother and my grandmother both lived to be in their 80s... my Mom appears fine as does DS... he should be able to "cheat" once in a while if he's "faithful" the rest (like if he has a birthday party to...
  14. Just curious (I just started this board)... You make mention of a famous rock-star brother... have you ever named which band? Or, did you not want that known? ........... Just wondering
  15. "What are some things that you pack for your child for school lunches? I have all the school supplies down, but lunch still boggles my mind. My daughter won't eat yogurt or gluten-free breads or fruit snacks. Ideas?" You could try things like cheese sticks, cut up ham (my son likes this), applesauce cups, fruit cups, hotdogs, etc.
  16. Just got a call from the Dr.'s office. Evan (DS-6) IS gluten intolerant per his blood test. I kinda guessed, what with the family history. But still........... I'm now making an appointment w/a dietician/nutritionist........ :::sigh::: Well- looking for a silver lining... once he goes on the diet... maybe that will mean his other "issues" will...
  17. This is a spinoff from another post... I just saw someone posting that it is suspected that their child got diabetes because of undiagnosed celiac... does anyone know how this happens? Is it from the lack of nutrient absorption? I hadn't heard this before and an curious what the link is. Thanks. As a side note - DS's blood test results were in yesterday...
  18. I would think that the way they make food there (mass produced like that) it'd be pretty easy to get cross-contamination in your order even if you watched them make your food. I'm just starting to research gluten free eating (Mom/Grandma have Celiac as did DH's Grandmother - and I suspect he does as well)... DS just got tested yesterday. I am planning...
  19. As background - my grandmother and mother both have/had Celiac's as did my husband's grandmother (his mother was never tested and HE was never tested... his "symptoms", etc. are something else entirely!!)... My main questions are: (1) can you be OVERweight and have gluten intolerance/Celiac? ... and... my son has previosly been diagnosed with milk, soy...
