  1. I am meeting w/my son's doctor (or, group of doctors since it's an HMO - he's not really assigned just one doctor). I am just wondering if you guys could provide some questions for me to ask them. I'm going to talk to them about their testing (why they only did two tests (IGG/IGA) and not the full "celiac panel" - if/when they will be re-testing for levels...
  2. I just ordered the Cuisinart! It's available from JC Penney for the same price as Amazon ($99) Glad to hear people like it.
  3. I've heard mouth ulcers can be a symptom of celiac disease... [the nutritionist we saw w/our DS said that]. My DS (also 6) had them very frequently previously - and since being gluten-free they are gone. Could the rash be dermatitis herpaterformis? You could have your doctor check. If it is then you'd know it was from celiac disease. Good luck!
  4. I am in the Grand Rapids area and went to a meeting at the Health Pavillian right next to Kent County Jail (can't remember if it's St. Mary's or Butterworth related)... I'll ask my Mom - she's the person I went with, and I'll let you know. I do seem to remember their meetings are monthly.
  5. You're dairy and soy free as well as gluten-free w/your son? MY son was diagnosed w/milk and soy allergies as an infant - but we were told he outgrew them because he has no skin reactions to them anymore. What are your typical meals for your son? How old is he? I'm going to bring up these issues w/my son's doctor when we see them next week (how we know...
  6. Thanks for the replies. My DS has been gluten-free for about 6 weeks now. I am not sure if he has any other food "issues" (other than a tree nut allergy). As an infant he tested positive for milk and soy - but the Dr. said he outgrew them as he no longer has symptoms from ingesting them. Maybe they are more of an intolerance now? How would I tell? ...
  7. I've been contacted by my son's teacher (he's 6 - first grade), who in turn contacted a teacher consulstant with regard to him. They are considering having him screened for ADD. I know that some symptoms of celiac/gluten intolerance are brain fog, concentration issues, etc. He very well may have ADD... but... how long do you guys think it would take for...
  8. DS was diagnosed this past August w/gluten intolerance... DH's grandmother had celiac and DH has had "food issues" [both allergies and intolerances] his entire life. I asked them if he could get a blood test and they stated if he "wasn't having any symptoms he doesn't need to get tested [this is still part of the quote!! EVEN IF HE HAS IT HE IF THERE'S...
  9. Just a note to let you know that it does get easier. My son took it pretty well initally too (he also has a nut allergy). He's 6. He was (and still is) sad that he can't have certain things (like McDonald's chicken nuggets and pizza from the pizza place). But, we've also figured out "replacements" that he's been happy with. I found a recipe for "McDonald...
  10. I agree w/using things kids can actually say when asked by peers about eating something. In our instance a book that explains that even if you don't get a stomach ache (or other "external" symptom) after eating gluten, you are still hurting your insides. Cool idea! Good luck!
  11. Does anyone own a breadmaker with gluten free programs and/or presets? I am *just about* to purchase one (a Cuisinart) but was wondering if anyone had one and had recommendations on a brand. I've found a TON for sale in the UK that have the gluten-free presets... but not so much in the US (unless I'm not looking correctly). Anyway - thanks for any recommendations...
  12. So - I got my son's actual results today... can you please give me your opinions? The antigiadin antibody panel (IGA) was <3 so negative The gliadin antibody (IGG) was 57 - so positive. Those are the only two tests listed. They said he's "probably" not celiac, but is this even enough to diagnose gluten intolerance? He was asymptomatic (other...
  13. I'm contacting the company, but does anyone know off hand if One a Day children's vitamins are gluten-free? Thanks!
  14. My son age 6 is also tall for his age... maybe he's too young to have had many problems w/malabsorption at this point. He's 95% for height and 90% for weight.
  15. What is one of the better gluten-free soy sauces out there then? Thanks!
  16. I'm not an expert, but, from what I understand at this point is gluten intolerance is for life too... it also is an autoimmune disorder, it just hasn't caused damage to the intestines. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong - I'm basing this on what the "nutritional specialist" told me as in her opinion my son falls in this category (GI vs. celiac disease...
  17. I found one that stated to add 1/2 cup white bean flour to 3 cups chicken broth, boil for 2 minutes then put in a blender. Is her recipe similar? Thanks!!!
  18. Anyone know of a gluten free version of creme of chicken soup? Thanks-

    ARCHIVED Dh?

Do you have to have a complete "outbreak" of DH to be tested for it? I believe DS has/had it (he is + for gluten intolerance). Thanks-
  20. I'd like a pediatric gasteroenterologist to review my son's test results... I'm not sure how to go about this. Do I just contact the Dr. I'd like to review them and ask them to do it and how much they charge? Should I ask our HMO for a referral to one? All I'd really like the new Dr. to do is review the tests, make sure the correct ones were done and interpret...
  21. Could you please send it to me too? Best address would be Heather.Wiersma@usdoj.gov (work). Thanks!!!
  22. :::bump::: Anyone? I tried emailing the company, but for some reason I can't get the email to go through. Guess I'll see what happened when he ate them today (they got sent w/DS's lunch today along w/the homemade chicken nuggets I made).
  23. Does anyone know exactly what in the tater tots is not OK... I thought I was really careful reading ingredients at the store and (very happily) bought some for DS... now I see this thread and they may not be OK. I'm confused - THanks!
  24. Season Packet: salt, sugar, monosodium glutamate, disodium guanyulate, disodium inosinate, soy sauce powder(soy bean extract, maltodextrin, salt, monosodium glutamate, caramel, citric acid), artificial chicken flavor, garlic, pepper, onion I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. Thanks-
  25. OK - I'm kinda getting bored (and, really, so is my family) with potatoes or rice. What are some other good side dish ideas? I usually always serve a fruit and a vegetable in some form. Just getting bored w/the same ole/same ole. Thanks!
