  1. I've only done it once this week as well. I actually came down with a cold on Friday ( wondering if that was why I found day 1 so hard earlier in the week ). That's the first real cold I've had in months which is a great thing as I was catching one every week before my op. Looking after my 5 year old today but will probably go back to week 4 tomorrow and...
  2. Hi again you two The back is better, just about. I actually managed to do week 5 day 1 yesterday but it was sooo hard. I'm very much playing it by ear just now. I may just repeat day 1 once more again this week ( possibly friday ) and leave it at that until next week. Looking at day 2 and day 3 it's a serious week. I'm on holiday for two weeks...
  3. I'll be repeating week 4 as well I think. I tweaked my back yesterday ( I basically sneezed as I twisted to get out of bed ), so now I'm waiting for my back to stop twitching Think I'll just aim for 2 runs this week assuming my back is better by tomorrow.
  4. Hi again. Got to say greenling, I can't imagine how I would cope with doing weights on top of this right now. My good runs are always the ones when I've had a two day break and I don't do any other training although I have considered it. I did day 3 today ( one day rest ) and it was horrible. My legs and lungs were on fire by the end. Now part...
  5. Heh, got sensible and went out first thing in the morning today. Nice and cool. We don't have anywhere near the heat problems you guys are having anyway, but this was a nice change from the warmth and humidity we've been having recently, particularly the humidity. Anyway, had a blinder of a run, waaaay faster than Monday's. In fact it felt like I was...
  6. Finally did Week 4 day 1 today. Boy that was a step up, doable, but still it pushed me a bit. It was ridiculously humid though, which made it pretty hard going. I'm doing distance intervals rather than time, so it took me to the 2 mile mark. And I'm now starting to see a significant pace improvement on the same stints from last year. In fact I'm almost the...
  7. The more the merrier, Wheeleezdryver. Doing the c25k intervals on other forms of cardio is a blindingly good idea, well done you for realising it could be a way forward. Sorry to hear about the heat intolerance greenling, you're doing the right thing though. Consolidate your current level if progress is a problem, hopefully progress will be just...
  8. Well done Greenling! I've just started repeating week 3. I got badly glutened on Friday and was in no fit state on Saturday to do it. So rather than just skipping Week 3 Day 3 to carry on with week 4, I've decided to consolidate that week by doing it again, I wasn't as relaxed and free in my breathing as I'd have liked anyway. So I did Week 3 Day...
  9. Yeah, unfortunately in the UK you have to be very careful, most sausages are padded out with wheat in some way. There are specific Free From varieties, but otherwise best to avoid it. Which is why I'm annoyed that the chef obviously wasn't switched on. I've been there before and they've always done me right, but this time it was a new chef.
  10. I got done again today. Was assured by the waitress that the chef had said a sausage on my breakfast plate was gluten-free ( the rest of it couldn't have had gluten ), within 20 minutes I was starting to feel glutened, hours later I'm in a fairly bad way with GI symptoms, can't feel two fingers on my right hand ( it's almost as if my pinky and the next finger...
  11. Heh - well I was feeling less sore when I got home from work today so I went and did Wk 3 day 2 anyway. My legs felt like lead, I have to say, but I was faster than I've been so far. Bizarrely, every time I check, despite being 3 stone lighter, I seem to be hitting near as makes no difference the same pace as I did on that same run last year. It's quite disheartening...
  12. Just out of interest... How are you on your recovery days? I'm in a whole heap of pain today simply from muscle ache. I've spent my whole life, well apart from a few years in the middle, being sporty, so I know it's part of the deal, but this is extreme. I was going to run tomorrow but based on the fatigue and ache I have I'll leave it to Thursday. Luckily...
  13. Don't worry too much about week 3, it does seem like a big ramp up, but it's not that bad really. Just maintain a comfortable pace and you'll be fine. I just did the first run of week 3 this morning and actually enjoyed it. Oddly though, I was almost precisely the same pace and distance as last year. Although looking back at last year, my lungs were...
  14. Hi Greenling Just completed week 2 today. Seem to be doing okay despite having had some food trouble ( I suspect that the culprit may be some olives stuffed with jalapenos - I have no trouble with chillies but I think the jalapenos may have been pickled with malt vinegar ). Today's run was pretty slow tbh, but I had my daughter with me again. She...
  15. Hehe Well that's week 1 complete now - I took my 5 year old daughter out with me (her on her bike) today and she got a good workout. It was obviously slower than I would normally like, but it was fun, relaxed and I still got a buzz. I've managed to do it, despite eating something that doesn't agree with; sore side, bit of neuropathy, arthritis. In fact...
  16. I seem to be getting this too. Was a gradual build up at first, but now it's within half an hour, I generally have to go lie down for a while, my body starts to ache, neuro symptoms, weakness, headaches and irritability. Most of it goes fairly quickly, but I get left with the neuro stuff for days after. I just got done yesterday by a gluten-free crispbread...
  17. Day 1 done I took it very easy, by halfway through the run I was grinning from ear to ear... soooo nice to get the buzz again. I'll be taking it steady though. Open Original Shared Link Hope your travelling is going well
  18. Hi Greenling Sorry to hear about having to take a 10 day break, it sounds as though you have it sussed though. It's amazing that you can track the healing process like that though. Very demonstrable effect of going gluten free. Have you been following Wimbledon? Interesting to learn that Djokovich went gluten free after health issues and his performance...
  19. That's me got the go ahead to start some gentle exercise... I'm stretching the meaning of gentle to encompass the C25K, I think Will probably start at the weekend... if I get a good night's sleep tonight, I may even go tomorrow. How quickly are you recovering from your runs Greenling?
  20. Thinking back on the last 9 months ( I caught on to it fairly early on I think ), the biggest problem, for me, was I had *so* many symptoms that mentally I couldn't keep track of them all due to the brain fog. Every time I went to a doctor: a/ he/she would look bewildered because I was listing apparently conflicting symptoms; most importantly, b/ I wasn't...
  21. This was one of the signs in me that was missed many many years ago. When I was still at school I'd get home at the end of the day and have 3 or 4 slices of toast. Within 20 mins I'd be out for the count and unrousable. It got so bad that we went to the docs about it. The doctor at the time said it was some form of carb crash, given that it was just a small...
  22. Inn on the loch I take it? Sounds lovely
  23. The thing I've noticed with typing is that my right hand ( I'm right handed ) seems slower than my left now. So I'll type "it" for example, and discover I've typed "ti" instead, my left hand hit the "t" when it normally would but my right hand hit the "i" way slower. I've taken to re-reading everything I type now. This may be due to the right-sided neuropathy...
  24. I just discovered this little gem a couple of days ago. www.coeliacmap.com It's essentially an interactive map of gluten free venues which you can add to by adding venues of your own, and reviews of your own or other peoples venues. It also works in conjunction with an Android phone app available for free on the android marketplace. The app...
  25. Exactly - just remember it's designed around the idea that you just repeat days/weeks if need be. I remember doing much the same as you early on.
