  1. I was convinced I had MS from about November last year til just about 2 months ago. Had all the signs, and my neurologist at the hospital was worried about it too. At one point I lost the use of my right arm and couldn't hold my head up. The doc sent me for MRIs, CT scans, you name it I had it done. Thankfully they've come up clear and it wasn't until I had...
  2. Very true - I just sat in my fave cafe for the first time since I went gluten-free. I'd been avoiding it because I couldn't handle the temptation of all that lovely gluteny stuff in there. Turned out they were extremely accommodating once I politely asked if they had any gluten-free options, in fact they bent over backwards to make sure everything was fine...
  3. Similar story here... I've just turned 40 and pretty much that was when the celiac disease got triggered. I've always had symptoms I guess. I remember eating 4 slices of toast when I was a teenager after school and being unable to fight the urge to fall asleep. I've always had a troublesome stomach but just assumed everyone did and didn't complain as...
  4. Hi Greenling She reduced the number of runs she does per week from 5 to 3 and introduced the odd rest weekend where she does nothing ( about once a month ). In place of one of the missing runs she does a weights workout, but I think that's more to make her feel less lazy than actually to have any real effect . She does two shortish runs through the week...
  5. I'll be watching this thread with interest. I get severe joint pain along with neuropathy and muscle fatigue, I was thinking of starting working out again but I've had it all flare up again over the last week or so and don't want to push myself into ever decreasing cycles of fatigue and work. One thing I will say though ( and I'm sure as a long term gym...
  6. I'm beginning to think you may be right. I'm having real trouble just now, especially tonight actually. Something is just simply not agreeing with my stomach tonight and my neuropathy has returned ever since I started baking ( it gets markedly worse when I'm having stomach problems too, so right now my leg is on fire, as are my hand and my eye ). I'm also...
  7. Heh - I don't think anything will ever match the view we had in North Queensferry. The Forth Rail Bridge in all its glory out of our living room window, and the waters of the Firth of Forth lapping against the garden wall. I miss it a lot, but the place we had was too small with a baby on the way so we had to move. I was born in Thurso...
  8. Hi love2travel! I'm based in Dalgety Bay right now. It's got a great school for my kid but if I'm honest nothing much else to speak of. It's known as Edinburgh's spawning ground for good reason I used to live in North Queensferry, right by the water and in between the Forth Bridges though, that was when I fell in love with Fife really.
  9. Thought I'd pop in and say hello from Fife I'm just a wee bit north of Edinburgh but originally from the Highlands. In fact some of my family back in the Highlands are looking at the problems they've had through their lives through a new lens now because of my problems and things are starting to fall into place. Like you, just recently discovered I have...
  10. Seriously? That'll explain why I'm still getting searing pain days after I switched away from dairy... that pitfalls are just everywhere... Sigh... coconut milk it is then! Which is fine, I like coconut...
  11. Thanks again for your replies, it's so reassuring having you all there to lend an ear and have the benefit of your knowledge. It's a real rollercoaster just now as I discover what my limits are and my triggers. The burning sensation down my leg is searing right now and I feel like I have a stone in my abdomen. Inevitably I end up losing yet another of life...
  12. Rather than start a new thread I'll just add this here. I think I've very much discovered a dairy problem now Suspicions were raised when I made some lovely gluten-free cheese scones last week, but I had half a glass of goats milk before bed last night and now I can barely function. The neuropathy has returned since the scones too. Is it common...
  13. That article is really interesting, and timely too! So much is falling into place now, not just for me but a lot of problems members of my family have had over the years.
  14. Having just recently gone gluten-free, one of the most amazing end results has been a massive reduction in asthma problems. I've been a chronic asthmatic since the age of 4 or so. Had a few serious attacks when I was younger but learnt to manage it better as I got older. It's been part of my daily life for 36 years, but since going gluten-free nearly two...
  15. Odd that you should post this. I've just discovered that I'm almost certainly Celiac and had some big scary neurological symptoms which for a while were thought to be Multiple Sclerosis. I'm all clear on that front thankfully. The one symptom that always comes back if I accidentally eat gluten is numbness, tingling and burning down my right side. Used to...
  16. Thanks for all your replies folks. I thought I'd add an update here. Two things: a/ I had an operation 3 weeks ago to finally eradicate the abscess which caused the initial 4 - 5 month course of antibiotics which in turn caused the gut problems. They also removed a lipoma from my abdomen at the same time. I'm still off work just now as the wound needs...
  17. Actually, I'm wondering. Would you think it would be helpful to eat some wheaty stuff before I go in for the exploratory op? Just so it would be more obvious?
  18. Thanks very much for your replies. I really appreciate it Very definitely, the neuropathy reduced dramatically within a week or two of cutting wheat out. It's still there though, very much reduced, which coincides with your statement about it taking the longest to go away. I'll look into the Candida thing too, that would fit in with the 4 months of...
  19. Hi, New here, but hoping that you can shed some light on my last 6 months of hell. By way of introduction: 40 year old male, based in Scotland. I have a 5 year old daughter who always makes it all better, but I would dearly love to be able to all the things I used to with her before all of this happened. This is a long post, but I'm hoping some...
