ARCHIVED Find Any Strange New Things You Love Food Wise?
Harpgirl replied to Newtoitall's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've only been gluten free for just under a week, but I think I'm going to try avocados again. Years ago I got really sick of them after hurricane Charlie came through because the next day I came home with 5 bags of them (I rode out the storm with my husbands relatives). I thought I never wanted another one again. But they came on a salad that I ordered... -

ARCHIVED I Have A Question About Dh
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yeah, I've tried nickel free, still gives me a rash. The best I can do is coat the jewelry in clear nail polish. I never wear a watch and even my glasses are titanium, because I used to get a rash on the side of my head where my old metal ones would touch the skin. Oh well... -

*sigh* too much to hope that going gluten-free will allow me to wear any earrings I see, I suppose... -

ARCHIVED I Have A Question About Dh
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
LOL I just saw the whole section dealing with DH. This question is probably better posted there. Don't know if the moderators are able to move it there... -
I've had my blood tested for celiac last Friday, but I've been avoiding gluten since they drew my blood. As I'm reading more about DH, I'm wondering how it forms. Is it just random? The reason I ask is because I've always had this wierd skin "allergy". I can only seem to wear gold jewelry. Everything else gives me a terribly itchy rash. I later found...

				ARCHIVED Need Ideas For Summer
Harpgirl replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It is very theraputic. I relax so well when I play. If you ever decide to have your daughter learn, I highly recommend Sylvia Woods' book and DVD. I was able to teach myself to play and have been playing for 15 years and have gotten a little extra income for it. -

Bookstores, the big ones like Barnes and Noble, have activities too. I'm not sure what they have for preteens (I've never paid attentions since our eldest is 3), but it might be worth asking Good thing you don't live here in Florida, our hot weather can last 7-9 months, but generally any building has AC here for that reason. Ooh, I had another thought... -

ARCHIVED What Is Your Dream Career?
Harpgirl replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, I'd only be able to patron it when I visit my sister. She lives in Wilmington and they go to Raleigh all the time. Maybe you can start a franchise and come on down here to Tampa -
We just went to Busch Gardens tonight (we have passes), and I was in the bakery getting some coffee and I saw that they had an entire display by the register devoted to gluten-free food and snacks! It's not something they have listed on their website (at least I didn't find it). I never noticed it before and am very pleased with that! Just thought others...

ARCHIVED I Don't Think I Am Doing This gluten-free Diet Correctly
Harpgirl replied to Tina76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, Thanks And I think I'll try that broiler trick in the morning, but I guess I'll have to use the stick butter since we've used the tub butter for regular toast. Fortunately, my lactose intolerance disappeared again 6 months ago. Forgot to answer Glutenfreemanna's question. I'm not diagnosed yet, but I had my blood drawn Friday morning. I... -

ARCHIVED I Don't Think I Am Doing This gluten-free Diet Correctly
Harpgirl replied to Tina76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey, I have a question related to this thread as I'm on my second day gluten-free. I told my husband this morning, that I needed a new toaster and he (Mr. Extra Thrify) said that he would clean it out, even power wash it (which in my opinion would break it), and that he wouldn't use it anymore. Is this enough? And if it's not, can someone give me some... -

I think this question got lost, so I'm pulling it down here. I still would like to know if anyone knows what I should look for in the vitamins, please. -

LOL My husband already gave me a goofy nickname: Gluten Mutant. He may regret that if my withdrawls are as bad as some of these other people I've been reading on! -
Oh wow! I never thought of that! My husband will definitely be brushing his teeth more often! lol

ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, but not the grandmother that took us to lunch today. This one's diabetic, but she's had enough GI issues in her life that I wouldn't be surprised if she had celiac too. But at 87 years old, I don't think she would be interested in changing her diet yet again even if she had it. -

Hmmm, maybe I'll try my 3 year old on Larabars and Soyjoy. He likes the FiberOne bars I used to eat. He is such a picky eater, that the only things I can think of that he'll eat without gluten is applesauce, bananas, and an occasional hotdog. I tried to give him some of my chicken from my salad and he spit it out. He wouldn't even eat the marshmallows... -

ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I just thought of something, some meds and suppliments may have glucose, right? I've been taking Ranitidine (though it obviously doesn't work as well as I'd like), prenatal vitamins and Expecta, as I'm still nursing my 16 month old. The labels don't say anything about gluten (the Ranitidine is a prescription and I've already thrown away the info), but... -

Oh, and thanks for the birthday wishes Ravenwoodglass! I've actually never made my own key lime pie before, which is weird because it's my favorite, but obviously, I'll be giving it a try soon. lol I'm sure it will be easy enough to find an apropriate pie crust. -

ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well it's the end of my first day, and already, my cramping, while not totally gone, is certainly not as intense as usual this time of night. Other than SoyJoy bars while out and about, I kept it simple with mostly whole foods, and the thing I'm finding the most challenging is getting my 3 year old to understand that mommy can't eat certain food. My grannie... -

ARCHIVED What Is Your Dream Career?
Harpgirl replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Right now, I'm doing exactly what I want as a stay-at-home mom for my 1 and 3 year old boys. But when they are school age, I would love to go back into teaching. I taught high school English for 1 semester 5 years ago before burning out, and I was so heartbroken about needing to quit. I so miss being in a classroom trying (despite how hard they resist... -

ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
Harpgirl replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks again everyone! I'm actually really looking forward to going gluten free as I really believe that's my problem. So I had my last slice of key lime pie tonight for both my birthday and a farewell to gluten. My taste buds loved it, but if I could cartoonize my gut, it would be looking up at me dolefully saying "Again? Why?" lol I hope to find a good... -

ARCHIVED At What Temperature Do You Function Best?
Harpgirl replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I like anything below 80. I grew up here in south Florida and I hate the heat. I know it gets hot just about everywhere in the country, but when I'm sweating on Halloween, it's frustrating. I can remember going swimming on Christmas day when I was a kid. I have spent some winters up north, and I start shivering faster than anyone else, but I prefer it...
