  1. We've just built the crib for our 17 month old and are now sleep training him. He's been sleeping with me all the time because he would nurse when he slept. But he has been biting me all the time . I thought he was done with that, but he started up again. As much as I will miss that close cuddle time with my little guy, it will be a relief to sleep in...
  2. Cool! Thanks for the info! I live in Tampa and we go to Orlando every few months or so. It's nice to know that I won't have to pack a lunch.
  3. That Italian place was called the Antica Roma Caffe.
  4. She either doesn't really know what celiac is or she isn't taking it seriously enough. I just talked with my grandmother about it for the first time this week since going gluten-free and found out all sorts of things from her about how she wasn't very careful about it. She was diagnosed in the 90's and I don't think there was much info for her then...
  5. Last week, I went to visit my parents in Murphy, NC. First we stopped in Smyrna, just north of Atlanta. The Olive Garden there did a great job. After that we went on to Blue Ridge. There was a fudge shop there, (sorry I can't remember the name of it; it's not the Three Sisters) they had "from scratch" fudge. The butter Pecan was divine! My 3yo loved...
  6. Just wanted to say, thanks to everyone who gave me the tips! I was on vacation at my parents place last week and didn't get much time on a computer. I think what I'll do is continue to buy Udi's bread to see how much of it I truly will eat. I was never much of a bread person anyway, but sandwiches seem to be a quick convenient lunch to pack for the day...
  7. I bought a mix for gluten-free bread and later looked at another brand. Both instructions call for using a heavy duty mixer if not using a bread maker. I don't have either. Will it be enough to just knead the dough by hand? Or will it not turn out properly? Or can anyone recommend a brand that might suit me better? I wanted to try a mix first before...
  8. I did that with our garage door. My heart was racing and I just felt so sick to my stomach that I would leave for the day and forget to close the garage. Sure enough, when I got home, it was closed.
  9. I do have mild OCD tendencies. I haven't noticed much difference yet though. But then again, I keep accidentally getting glutened. I've mostly only noticed digestive relief. I too recently had surgery. 2 c-sections and a second arthroscopy shortly after. I'm with you, I think my trouble is celiac. My grandmother has it too and I suspect my Dad...
  10. Yay! *insert dancing banana* There is hope for me yet! I'm soooo looking forward to the next gluten-free months/years!
  11. Made kale chips today Plastic baggie, bad idea turned into seaweed!
  12. Oh, and if you are going to try the diet, I would go for more than a couple of weeks. I found digestive relief right away, but for others (I think especially with the joint pain) it takes several months.
  13. I'm relatively new at this, but honestly, I would try gluten-free for a while to see what happens. The digestive issues and joint pain seem to fit, not sure about the rash though. It doesn't sound like DH because it's seasonal. If you have gluten sensitivity, you simply have trouble digesting gluten. Celiac is autoimmune. Your body tries to attack...
  14. No problem I'm really glad I started it too. I was starting to have the mental capacity of my grandmother. I'm looking forward to being gluten-free long enough for this to go away. Another thing I do that drives me crazy. I'm trying to write a book and my brain jumps ahead of the scene I'm in and I have to conciously stop my pen (I create better...
  15. I use to play for a tea room that had the most fantastic looking cakes. One was a princess castle with turrets and flags, the whole nine yards! Maybe you can find a gluten free bakery that would be up to the challenge of making an elaborate cake and have her try it. It sounds like it's her eyes giving her the trouble really. It may be expensive, but could...
  16. found a bakery gluten-free treats so pricey! special occasions *sigh*
  17. I would have laughed too!
  18. Just thought you would want to know: According to Danna Korn in Living Gluten-Free for Dummies, the celiac test results in children 2 and under are not always accurate because their immune systems are not strong enough to produce antibodies.
  19. My husband read this thread tonight, thanks very much to all who replied. He was actually very surprised by the number of posts in such a short amount of time. He shouldn't scoff anymore. He realizes now that these "episodes" are not my fault. I don't think he fully blamed me anyway, he was just frustrated by the situation. Just tonight, we went...
  20. No kidding! Should you have been behind the wheel?!
  21. Little friend's birthday Eat cake tonight? not a chance Friend's mom has hummus!
  22. Just now, I gave my 1 year old his sippy cup and totally forgot to put the rubber stopper in it that keeps it from leaking. I heard, "trickle, trickle." He was so enthrawled with watching the juice pour out onto the floor! As annoying as that was, he was so cute!
  23. Hubby hasn't read this thread yet. I was so sick last night after being glutened, he did most of the work entertaining the boys and putting them to bed. The poor guy was beat! He'll try to read it tonight. I'll be able to take care of the boys more as my cramping is not as intense. In relation to my own topic... I was reading Gluten-Free for Dummies...
  24. Thanks for all the tips everyone! I'm currently just using paper towels, though this morning when I was in the middle of washing my hands my 3-year-old asked for cheez-its so I used the dish towel and rewashed after feeding him. But I think I'll go out and get some designated hand towels and hang them in an inconvenient place (otherwise hubby is sure...
