ARCHIVED Need A Doctor In The S. Cal - San Gabriel Valley
gf4life replied to DMCrawford's topic in Doctors
Here are some contacts from the Celiac Disease Foundation website , they might be able to put you in touch with a good GI. I am in Fresno County and can't find a good one for myself, but found a great one for my kids. I wish you luck. EAST SAN GABRIEL CONNECTIONS * Roxanne Chapman (909) 592-7485 * Arletta Johnson (626) 963-8032 * Walt... -
Jacque, that is good to know about the glycemic index. Do you have the website address for that site? I suppose I could find it, but to have it readily available would be nice... I do know that when I started the gluten-free diet, without restricting carbs I don't lose much weight and feel good, but not great. When I do gluten-free and restrict carbs...

ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
gf4life replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Terri-Anne, Sarah has made many good points in this string of posts. I would just like to add a few more. The blood tests are not as reliable as most doctors believe (at least in regards to Celiac). One negative test does not mean your child does not have Celiac Disease. The food allergy blood tests are accurate as far as I know. I tested... -
Thank you Sarah and Eileen, I do feel so much better about having a good doctor for my kids! This is the first time I totally agree with the GI doctor on everything inregards to the chosen course of action. And I am glad that I have my diagnosis to help. He said if we did not have proof of a family history he would probably be testing for lactose...

ARCHIVED Why Can't Doctors Agree?
gf4life replied to Stephanie7297's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Stephanie 7297, You are doing the right thing. Keep your son on the diet and change GI doctors. Just because you saw the previous doctor, does not mean you have to see the new one. Your pediatrician is a keeper though! If you want a little bit of "proof" that your son does have Celiac Disease, then you could ask your pediatrician to order the... -
Hi Clare, I was just wondering if maybe you have some other food intolerance, in addition to gluten. I am casein intolerant and I have the same symptoms you described when I eat any dairy products, or products that contain dairy. I get very bloated and have stomach aches, loose stool, and gain weight. Once I found this out and cut dairy as well as...

ARCHIVED Could It Be Celiacs?
gf4life replied to twinmom0-0's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
twinmom0_0, Jessica is right, and that article she posted for you is only a partial list of the many and varied symptoms of Celiac Disease. Many people do have diarrhea, but just as many have constipation, and some have a combination of both(like me). I am sorry that your daughter has had to suffer so long, you should certainly take her back for more... -
I just wanted to share with all of you that I have found a great pediatric GI specialist. He is very knowledgeable and up to date on Celiac Disease. His name is Dr. Roberto Gugig and he is at Children's Hospital of Central California Gastroenterology Department in Madera, just to the North of Fresno. When I took my kids to him today he was already...

Wow, this whole topic got me started thinking about this old boyfriend I had in college. He had an outbreak of like "100 sores" in his mouth and they gave him lidocaine to swish with, it barely took the edge off long enough for him to eat! He was irish and I now wonder if he may have had celiac disease. He certainly had many other symptoms as well... Mariann

ARCHIVED "help--holiday Horrors" (continued)
gf4life replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Maria, Welcome to the site. It really is a wonderful place to go and know you can get some answers. The only for sure pain reliever that I know of that is safe, and won't cause other problems is Tylenol (or acetominophen) , many of the other over the counter pain relievers like Advil, Motrin, Aleve and even asprin can cause other reactions even... -
ARCHIVED Age At Onset Of Symptoms?
gf4life replied to healthy1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The earliest I can remember I had joint pain and inflamation since I was 4 years old, and the tummy troubles came and went all my life. I was 29 when I found some information on gluten intolerance and went looking for a doctor to run the tests. I finally got my diagnosis this year. I am 31 years old. No one else in my family has ever gotten diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED So Good Non Dairy Milk
gf4life replied to Daywyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm allergic to soy, so I don't buy soy milk anymore, but if you list the ingredients here we might be able to come up with an answer. Or you could call the company. The number should be on the package. Mariann -
ARCHIVED Gf Spouse W/o Cd Now Reacting To Gluten?
gf4life replied to healthy1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Healthy1, what you are reporting about your spouse is actually not uncommon. I've seen quite a few people on this board report the same thing. I have a paper of a talk given by Dr. Fine that states in it that about 29% of Americans show an intestinal immunologic reaction to gluten in their diets. That is a lot of people and not all of them have celiac... -
Hi Natalie, Unfortunately, most doctors are like the first one you mentioned. I had never heard of Celiac or gluten, after 30 years of seeing dozens of doctors for GI related problems. Then when I came acrossed it one day and it sounded like me I asked for testing, and at first it seemed no one knew what tests to order, then they ordered the wrong ones...

ARCHIVED Vacations And A Gluten Free Diet
gf4life replied to r-newsome's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I found this really good article about vacationing at Disney World Gluten Free. Here is the link Open Original Shared Link It is from one of their old newsletters. Once there click on "Doing Disney World Gluten Free". I hope you have a wonderful vacation. don't let them hassle you about bringing in your ice chest full of food either! You have a right... -
I feel bad for your little boy, and for you having to change all the diapers.... I feel so blessed, for a couple of reasons. (1) My kids are out of diapers! and (2) they don't have to go back on gluten after experiencing what life is like off of it. I won't let them be gluten-free until they are done testing, too hard to do a gluten challenge on...

Hi, it's Mariann here, I was wondering when we would start seeing some of your recipes.... I also changed my user name when the site switched over. I almost didn't realise it was you, until I read the whole post and recognized you! I'm still waiting for your cookbook!! I have not gotten a chance to make any of your great recipes, yet. My kids were...

Their contacts are a bit more up to date than other support groups I have found. God bless. Mariann West Virginia Contacts Resource Unit City: Charleston Contacts: Arvin Gibbs ...

Hi Stacie, First, it has only been three months, and the healing process takes time, so expect some symptoms to occasionally show their ugly heads! Second, is it possible that you may have gotten some hidden gluten? It hides in the strangest places. Third, other foods can cause reactions like that as well, so you may want to see if there is something...

Thanks Tammy. I like your positive attitude. It is contagious, you know. Mariann

ARCHIVED Questions About A Gluten Challenge
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Lily, I just don't get why so many doctor's just treat the symptoms and don't even look for the underlying disease! I've suffered with this since as long as I can remember, being hospitalized when I was 4 years old with joint problems, and to dozens of doctors in the past 30 years for my GI issues and no one EVER even mentioned gluten or celiac... -
ARCHIVED I Know What's Wrong Now, When Will I Get Better?
gf4life replied to Lily's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oops... The link I made in the post above to get to enabling.org was wrong, but I fixed it now. Sorry to anyone who might have tried to access it before. Mariann -
I am 60 lbs. overweight and I don't seem to be able to lose any weight while on gluten. As soon as I am able to get back to being gluten free I should start losing. I did lose 30 lbs. (twice) on low carb/high protein diets, but as soon as I go back to eating normal I gain it right back. This was before I knew about celiac disease. Now that I know that...

Okay guys, I thought something needed to go here, and I have to say that my all time favorite book about celiac disease is Danna Korn's book "Wheat Free, Worry Free". What is the best book about Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance that you have read??
