  1. I had blood tests taken on monday for a variety of things. The drs surgery rang me this morning to say the results were back and to book an appointment to see my gp as my dr has requested to see me but they would not give me the results of the tests over the phone! So I am still none the wiser until I see my gp! Gah. The curiosity... He requested a routine...
  2. I was wondering if being mostly gluten and wheat free for a couple of weeks or so before doing the test would affect the result. The reason I asked for celiac testing with my dr is because I have a brother with it, so when I started getting what appear to be food related symptoms that was one of the first things to come to mind. I did try to put wheat...
  3. I seem to be getting what appear to be allergic reactions to things lately. I took wheat, gluten and processed foods out of my diet for 5 days. On eating weetabix again I vomited, bloated, had stomach pain, and felt dizzy and really ill (like I had a major hang over). I also had similar symptoms (minus the vomiting) when eating bread, so after a few days...
  4. Well the rash has faded this morning, the vomiting only happened the once after eating (vomiting is not one of my usual symptoms and the only other time I had that was after I took wheat and processed food out for a week and then had some weetabix...my stomach hit the eject button, but no rash that time...all the same i took the wheat and processed food back...
  5. I will look them up ty! Also does anyone know if consuming wheat can cause a rash? To add to my stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea I now have a rash all over my stomach...
  6. Is there a good brand of wheat/gluten free gravy at all? I did try bisto best but after eating it I am getting the same symptoms as I do when I eat wheat (bloating, vomiting, diarrhoea etc). It does not have wheat etc in the ingredients but does say that it's made on a production line that handles wheat. The rest of the meal was a fresh joint of pork that...
  7. I am fine with codeine or dihydrocodeine but not with aspirin or other NSAIDs (Non steroidal Anti-Inflammatories) as I get an allergic reaction to the latter (well Ibruprofen but I am told that if I can't take that I can't take NSAIDs at all).
  8. Basically the full blown Paleo diet consists of no grains, no dairy and no legumes. The theory behind it is that the human body has not evolved to eat these 'neolithic foods' and so has problems digesting them. However, many do a modified version (ie they may take out all grains but still consume some dairy..which I do). Legumes I have never liked much anyway...
  9. I noticed a change in bowel symptoms after around 5 or so days. The improvement was gradual. The fatigue however continued on for a little bit longer but is gradually improving.
  10. Caffeine can give me migraine headaches but I tend to be able to get away with the caffeine in cola more than I can get away with a Starbucks lol.
  11. I just wanted to add that I have found the best way around it is to eat a whole foods diet. As I grew up with a brother who had celiac disease and my mother was older generation I grew up on a predominantly whole foods diet anyway (my mother cooked recipes with fresh ingredients as opposed to shop bought processed items) and only started eating processed...
  12. I am not sure as I am trying a gluten/wheat free diet myself at the moment and have moved over to whole foods only (except for a few treats that I am partial to and which I checked for wheat and gluten content). I did go gluten and wheat free a week ago for about 5 days but tried to put wheat back in as I am due to have a blood test for celiac disease next...
  13. Those foods (melon, lemonade and coffee) possibly have one thing in common...salicylates. Open Original Shared Link
  14. I am having blood tests for gluten next week and am in a similar position. I want to rule out celiac disease (because I have a brother with it) although I personally am beginning to suspect a mild to moderate wheat allergy. For the blood tests though I am supposed to keep eating gluten. However I feel so bad after eating wheat and I get such a painful stomach...
  15. I asked my dr for a test for celiac disease today but obviously I need to have the blood tests done before I get the results back. One of my symptoms is terrible acid reflux and I know that certain foods seem to trigger it more than others such as weetabix, toast etc. I tried the paleo diet briefly, the lower carb version, and found that my acid reflux...
  16. How reliable are they?
  17. I have issues with some of my toes nails. I have what looks like terry's nails and one of them is much thicker than the others. I am not sure if its a fungal thing or due to diet or related to the other symptoms I am getting. I am presently in the process of trying to get a test for celiac disease as I am getting a range of issues from fatigue to digestive...
  18. It depends if you can afford the gluten free diet without any kind of financial considerations being made I guess. I mention this because presently I am arguing with creditors over payment arrangements and what they allow for food each week is ludicrous unless I want to live on cheap bread, pasta and other processed foods that taste like the box they come...
  19. It takes me at least several cups of coffee and 3 cigarettes before my brain comes anywhere close to landing back on earth in the morning! I also can't eat when I first wake up as my stomach is one of the last things to wake up. My bowel however seems to be an early riser so morning constipation is rarely an issue for me lol. Actually any kind of constipation...
  20. You'd be surprised what they stick gluten in in the UK including the humble banger! Fortunately I rarely consume sausages whether I am eating gluten free or not as I prefer my meat to look as meat should...like err..meat...
  21. Well thank god I don't have to load up too much lol. I kept the slice of plain bread down and had 2 slices of toast and ye gods the gut acid, reflux and stomach pain! It's actually the worst that I've known it now. I had discomfort before I took gluten out, the acid reflux mostly went whilst I was gluten free and now its back with an all time vengeance! So...
  22. Continue to eat the gluten for as long as needed to complete the tests to get the diagnosis at which point you can then stop consuming it again. I recently tried a gluten free diet for a week but, as I was not undergoing testing and wanted to ask my dr for a blood test etc, I decided to return to eating gluten again for the time being. Yesterday did not...
  23. What is the best way to load up on gluten? I had some weatabix earlier as my first does of gluten and my stomach has ejected it (barfed it back up lol) so thats not stayed down. Would bread be a better way?
  24. Are the 5 days I was gluten free likely to affect the test results? And if the dr wont run the test is it worth trying a home test first so I can take the results of that to the dr if they are positive?
  25. Hi, I have been feeling unwell with various symptoms ranging from fatigue, light headedness to gastrointestinal disturbances for some time now. I was in the process of trying a gluten free diet (as I have a half brother with celiac disease and wondered if I had a gluten problem myself) however a support worker I see (about my issues with depression) has insisted...
