  1. Okay I'm late getting to this post but I just wanted to make sure you all know something that I was reminded of when I read, "You know....if #2" Here's something I think you will all appreciate: Gluten is the name of the insoluble protein in wheat, probably most familiar as stuff that makes bread dough elastic. When raw gluten (wheat dough...
  2. You know what's funny is that I think he has celiac disease too. He has had severe abdominal pains for years, can't even eat some days because they are so bad. In addition, he's anemic. Hmm... sounds like... He even went through awful tests on his body, but no one ever tested him for Celiac. So, I *really* wish he would be tested. But he argues...
  3. Mine is kind of like an inflatable six pack - that gets too much air put into it about 10 minutes after I eat something Kinda funky actually. I usually feel ultra sexy in the morning and sometimes will wait hours to eat just so I can keep feeling skinny! I'm not saying I've got model abs or anything - but I like 'em - until somebody pulls that rip...
  4. Hey! I have a sensitive spot on the right side of my stomach (about 4 inches to the right of my belly button) that is tender when I push on it. Could this be related to celiac? It's been that way as long as I can remember. I've never done anything about it because...umm.. because I'm a scared wuss I guess! Does anyone know where the damage occurs ? ...
  5. OOps, that's supposed to say "BUT I'm afraid that's just not an option." - Michelle
  6. Wendy, Thank you for your sweetness & understanding. I have a hard time deciding if he's being abusive or not. He was like this when we first found out about my dairy allergies but then got over it after a little while. Of course, dairy allergies aren't nearly as serious as this so... who knows. I think he's just tired of the irritation...
  7. No no no, I have never been offended by any of *you* guys saying that it's just food - because I know you realized what else it is. I was just offended by *him* saying it's "just food" because he doesn't seem to comprehend what that includes. I am still just astounded by his complete lack of empathy. I wonder if he's ever thought of the fact that...
  8. I love quinoa!! Try it, it's yummy and has a really cool "mouth feel" You might also want to look at a couple of these websites: Open Original Shared Link - (it lets you enter all the stuff you are allergic to and then gives back products that don't have those allergens in them - unfortunately I didn't see rice listed as an allergen But you...
  9. Stef, You are right, that is a good book - and to some extent he's been a perfect example of what it talks about. (I've read the book before). That is so kind of you to have typed all that out for me! Thank you so much. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think he's from Uranus (Well, not *yours* in particular, but.. ) I talked to him a...
  10. Good news! Someone very important in my life is being understanding!! My accounting Professor (Marci Butterfield at the Univ. of Utah) is allowing me to take the final later. I am absolutely overwhelmed by her kindness and understanding. Yay! Now I can finally just take a couple days and not worry about school and allow myself to have emotions dealing...
  11. Thank you Wendy. And you are absolutely right - I *am* lucky to have a treatable disease. I am excited to find out what it will be like for me once I am off gluten. I desperately hope that it will help with the depression and the osteoporosis and the dental stuff and fatigue and waking up looking skinny but then looking fat 10 minutes after I eat something...
  12. So anyway... I haven't had the biopsy yet but the tTG was positive (and some other test she did). However, I had an ELISA food allergy test about a month earlier that showed my allergic reaction to wheat was *low*. I wonder if it came back that way because I had been on a *really* low grain diet prior to the test. Hmm... it kind of ticks me off though...
  13. Thank you Ianm, I am sorry that you had to go through that with your wife. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be with someone for so long and then face that kind of reaction. Thank you for your understanding. Kaiti - It's weird because I know that he cares about me, in the past when he has seen me cry I have always felt his heart reaching out...
  14. Are you *sure* you want to listen to me vent? I'm afraid the boyfriend might have chosen to opt out of this relationship. He isn't answering my calls (has caller I.D.) and doesn't return my messages. So.. I guess that's it. It really sucks because we are both grown ups (he's 34 and I'm 32) and we have both been through a ton of other stuff already...
  15. I am not anemic but if I had the option I could sleep all the time. Well... maybe not sleep, but at least lie there in bed and fantacize about it! My bf thinks I've got serious lazy issues, but I'm just tired a lot! It's not that I'm a slug (was taking 6 exercise classes/week at the Univ. until classes ended last week!) - but I've definitely got fatigue...
  16. I mean, we're talking 55 pages here! Whoa! And a lot of it is food you can get in normal stores Whoa!
  17. Open Original Shared Link This is a big ol' PDF with tons of stuff on it. You may all know this stuff already but it's new to me! Best wishes! - Michelle
  18. Wow. I would be so alone without you guys. I can't even explain how much you are helping me. I had a huge fight with the boyfriend this morning and it might just be the end of our relationship. He is paralyzed and obviously has some major problems of his own - but I have been loving him & supporting him for over a year. I don't understand why...
  19. Kaiti, Thank you so much. It means more than I can explain to have someone just allow me to feel what I'm feeling and have so much compassion. I really needed to hear (read) what you said. I really needed to have someone who's been there tell me that it's okay to feel this way. You have posted a lot of replies to my questions in various places...
  20. I love the "portion control issues" comment! Thanks for making me laugh out loud with the "oink, oink" You might try freezing your leftovers in small portions, then it's not so easy to just umm.. eat 'em! I mean, it will take you at least an extra thirty seconds with the microwave! Another recommendation a friend gave me was to have a big cookfest...
  21. My blood test results came back positive a few days ago and I have become almost entirely non-functional. Does everyone go through this when they find out? I think I've looked at over 843,629 websites in just the past 72 hours. I can't seem to think about anything else. I told my boyfriend about this and his reply was, "This is not such a big deal...
  22. Thanks for the hope! This yeast thing just doesn't seem to want to quit for me - but I'm told not to go gluten-free until after I have the biopsy (in about 3 weeks). It's *really* frustrating to know that my blood tests came back positive and with all my other symptoms it's a pretty sure thing - but then be told to keep putting poison in my body. It...
  23. This is absolutely amazing! I was diagnosed with celiac (blood test) just the other day. I think I must have had it for a long time though - I'm 32 and have osteoporosis, plus my dental enamel didn't form correctly when I was a little girl. Plus - I've had a lifetime of depression. I first took anti-depressants when I was 15 years old. I tried to kill...
  24. Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I've treated the candida with all sorts of medications already. The last course was 10 days of diflucan (each day) and then another pill 72 hours later while using boric acid suppositories for two weeks (in addition to the diflucan). It appears that I have a super-resistant strain of candida. I'm hoping that...
  25. Just the other day my doctor decided to test me for celiac and the blood tests came back positive. The great indicators were: osteoporosis (I'm 32!), heartburn, dental problems, depression, fatigue - etc. but what I'm *really* wondering is how this is going to affect the chronic / recurrent yeast infections I've had for about a year. I read some postings...
