Dearest and Most Wonderful Gluten Free Friends, Hello I was just thinking to myself, "Self, we are going to have to start eating gluten free stuff soon! We should probably start stocking those cupboards!" So, I went to the Gluten-Free Mall, and then to FoodChoices.com and then ShopByDiet.com and then to Miss Robens and then to some other allergy...

ARCHIVED Why Do People Have To Be So Mean?
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sharon, Thank you. I think you just made a really, really, really good point that I needed to hear (see, whatever) "I think you'll start feeling better, and be better able to cope with people." I think that is absolutely true. Right now I'm doing this "gluten challenge" thing where I'm supposed to eat gluten at every meal so that my biopsy will... -

All of you seem to have such a balanced and accepting perspective when it comes to other people's ignorance. Does that come easier along the way? -
ARCHIVED Food/symptoms
Emme999 replied to Darby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How long is your vacation? I would guess that it would be far easier (and a whole lot less stressful) to go gluten-free after you get home. I don't know, I'm new to this! But probably some other gluten-free-ers will have better advice! Geez I wish I was going on vacation! I can't think of a time when I've ever needed one more than now! -

ARCHIVED Food/symptoms
Emme999 replied to Darby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Darby, Mine is scheduled for May 19th (a week from Thursday). You will have to tell me how yours goes! Are you eating lots of gluten foods?? You totally should, because your intestinal tract actually renews itself every 3 days - so now is the time to gluten binge like never before! (From the book, "The biopsy is simply a sample of cells in... -
ARCHIVED Food/symptoms
Emme999 replied to Darby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Darby, Hello. Don't be too confused. A lot of people with celiac disease are asymptomatic. I am still too new to this to know too much about the whole deal but according to James Braly & Ron Hoggan (authors of Dangerous Grains, a book all about gluten intolerance), " Any search for celiac disease based on the presence of symptoms will miss most... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Stress
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ian, Okay, so I'm down with the whole "not wanting to hear it if you are just talking about the same damn thing all the time" aspect of Martiandom. But how do I know when it's the Martian in him or simply that he doesn't care about me anymore? I know it shouldn't be that hard for me to figure out but... *sigh* he says that he really cares about me... -
ARCHIVED Signs And Symptoms
Emme999 replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lynne - Do not go on the gluten-free diet until *after* you have the biopsy done!! It is far too risky that your results could be altered. Here is a (long) quote from the book Dangerous Grains by James Braly, M.D., and Ron Hoggan, M.A. (which is entirely about celiac / gluten sensitivity). I highly suggest that you find it at a library or go purchase... -
So, anyway, this morning I am talking to my parents and telling them about this book I bought last night (Dangerous Grains) and how just about every major health problem I've had in my life can be linked to Celiac/malabsorption. I was so excited about the idea of a gluten-free diet healing me and helping me to get rid of so many troubles that never...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Stress
Emme999 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ianm, But what if the problem is celiac disease? Are you still "wasting time and energy" talking about it if you are trying to figure out what you can eat and how you can eat, etc? I don't see how this could be over and done with - not now, and not for a little while. Or perhaps ever? Don't *you* having celiac disease spend a lot of time talking about... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms That Go Away
Emme999 replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lesliean, I am *aching* to go gluten-free!! The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I'm waiting for the biopsy. But the more wonderful things I hear about symptoms going away - the more I want to do it! Thank you for everyone's encouragement -
Okay I can't stand it anymore!! These are statements quoted from "The China Study": "One of the fundamental arguments at the beginning of most low-carbohydrate, high protein diet books is that America has been wallowing in low-fat mania at the advice of experts for the past twenty years, yet people are fatter than ever. This argument has an intuitive...

Hey maybe you wise people can tell me something about my fingernails. I have these horizontal umm... canyons in some of my fingernails. They are about as deep as a this -> V . No doctor has ever been able to tell me what is wrong with them but it looks really weird. I don't even put on fingernail polish because it draws too much attention to them...

Sharon, I am sorry that you are having a rough day. I've had a lot of them myself lately. We both know that there are a lot of other people who have it a lot worse and I don't think that either of us would be likely to change positions with burn victims or cancer patients or whatever. But *right now* hurts and I think it's okay to feel that...

Hey, please don't think I'm passing judgement on anyone who eats meat! I'm just wondering about this! I haven't even started the gluten-free diet yet so I'm dwelling in the realm of possibilities here I just want to hear about your experiences! I honor and respect all of you, whether or not you eat meat! *hug* - Michelle Thanks...

ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
Emme999 replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I thought of one! You might be a Celiac if suddenly you realize that your obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) could be a *good* thing! -
Hello there. I'm Michelle and I've been a long time student of health/diet/etc. I recently read a book called "The China Study" and it has really rocked my world. It is based on one of the most comprehensive health/disease/diet studies ever done. It was started in 1983 and is actually still going on. This is the real deal too, done by *real* researchers...
