  1. Tissue tranglutaminase IgA/ IgG level is probably the most common screening lab consistently used, the IgA portion of which is more reliable, the IgG level can come into play if you have an IgA defiency, so typically measuring a coexisting Serum Iga along with the TTg IgA/Igg can help in missing those who have serum Iga that is low. Also may check am endomysial...
  2. I completely understand what you are going through, it has been 2 1/2 months for me and I still feel like dog doo-doo, abdominal pain daily into my back, overwhelming fatigue with sleeping 10-14 hours a day(use to require about 7 hours) was previously working out daily doing p90x and felt awesome, now I struggle to get out of bed somedays. I know for me...
  3. I have read all these posts and can sympathize with nearly every story. Up until recently I was a single father with split custody 50/50, doing well I thought, met a beautiful person and she I and recently got married. She is eveything I could dream of in a wife and suuport person. Recently after our wedding things began spiral downhill with my health...
  4. In an effort to sift through my symptoms I thought I would survey others on what they felt and time following their gluten free diet. #1 What did your abdominal pain feel like and where was it primarily located, constant or intermittent? And what % has it improved, if at all after being gluten free, and time frame to get their?? #2 Other symptoms related...
  5. T.H. I actually have had multiple studies, including two endoscopies, H.Pylori, and a number of other labs all of which looked OK, only thing they found on endoscopy were the findings consistent with celiac and some mild gastritis, for which I have been taking Nexium faithfully. NO luck, seeing a surgeon next week to see if maybe they may even try taking...
  6. Lucia, Your story sounds a bit like mine, what kind of additional symptoms were you having, when you said you were so sick it made it hard to eat, and how long did it take you being gluten free to start feeling better??
  7. I have been at this for 2 1/2 months, and my symptoms have actually worsened to some extent with increasing abdominal pain that is constant, and continous back spasms. My bloating, burning, and lump in throat that I started with have improved, but the trade for pain is worse. I ceertainly think I am as consistent as can be with the CC, and am mostly on...
  8. I did get a new toaster, and am fairly meticulous about cleaning everything and rinsing, have not replaced the strainer, but we really only eat rice noodles through it, and it is washed in the dishwasher prior to every use, also have new knives, cutting boards etc.. My wife is certainly on board with trying to be as proactive as possible, thank god! I...
  9. thanks for the advice mushroom, I have ordered some probiotics and digestive enzymes as well, was even considering peppermint oil capsules, as I have heard they can be beneficial, heck I'll try anything at this point in time. I sure admire many of the other folks patience with this forum, which is a not one of my strong suits thanks again as always, I am...
  10. I did go lactose free, and only until recently did I realize that it is actually casien that is the problem according to the allergist, not just the lactose issue. Maybe what I am feeling is normal response, I guess I kind of figured that I would feel well after awhile and would only develop symptoms if I was exposed to gluten, I guess my thought process...
  11. I have learned alot from all the great advice on this forum, one thing that continues to confuse me is how if I know have been glutened when I have yet to feel worth a damn. In a nutshell, since my diagnosis 2 1/2months ago, I have had an improvement in bloating, burning and a god-aweful lump in m throat sensation, but have traded those symptoms for continous...
  12. I know this question has probably been asked on numerous occasions, but am always curious to hear others response, as I continue to have persistent upper abdominal pain frequently radiating into my back that the docs all seem to link to my celiac, although, they are now questioning my gallbladder as being a coexisting issue. But with all that being said...
  13. thanks for the support, scary stuff, sometimes I hate to even think about it too much especially with two little kids in the mix, the thought of being confronted with something more than this seems overwhelming at this point in my life. It's funny, I never figured I would be the type of guy to join a forum and blog about my health issues, somehow though...
  14. With the knowledge base of all who have been through this, I was hoping that there may be some suggestions or ideas, preescription meds or otherwise for cramps. I am most troubled by persistent upper abdominal cramping into my flanks and midback. Fortunately have never had any real D, on occasion some notable bloating. Have eliminated most if not all lactose...
  15. Takala, thanks for all the helpful hints, one thing that I am trying to be is proactive about this as I do not like it running my life, indeed I agree with you that 2 weeks does seem odd that the Mayo doc through at me, not that I necessarily want to cont. to live with abdominal and back spasms everyday, and if there is anything else that can be done,...
  16. No pets, had to put the dog down earlier this year
  17. I am taking out the lactose, he told 3-4 days and see how I feel without it. I guess I was blown away by the fact that two weeks ago, he told me everything looked fine, with no other abnormalities, inlcuding labs for Vit. D, iron, thyroid, cbc etc inclduing a dedicated cat scan looking for lymphoma interpreted as normal, and now it is liked everything has...
  18. well now I am completely panicking, after being back from Mayo clinic for two weeks, with a confirmed diagnosis for celaic disease after they biopsied me, reviewed my previous biopsy and completed additional deamidated gliadin enzymes and TTG Iga, they told me to go home and be as religious with my diet as I can, which I have. I have not felt much better...
  19. Mollydee, I feel your pain, I am just a couple of months into this, and unlike you, feel absolutely terrible, everyday is a struggle to get out of bed and move forward, constant abdominal pain that I wonder if it will ever get better, and fatigue and anxiety, so dont' feel alone, I often feel like I am on an island and that no else understands the nature...
  20. Still learning alot in this new process and looking for some general recommendations, I live in a rural area in Michigan without alot of access to specialty shops etc, therefore most of our shopping is done locally at Wal-mart or Meijer. I am not real particular about soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc. as long as I don't leave the house smelling like a pig...
  21. Had vitamin levels check and they looked ok, and have been trying some Nexium 40mg and occasionally Zantac, it seems my diet is still quite erratic and I have never been without abdominal pain for the past two months to really know what makes it worse or better as it constantly hurts. I guess I just need to start eliminating other things to see if it makes...
  22. I guess I still have so many unanswered questions and unclear as to where to turn other than these forums, as none of this seems to make sense, and quite frequently my GI doc looks at me like I have three heads. Was curios to know if anyone experiences episodes through the day of a overwhelming malaise and sick feeling? Not always related to abdominal pain...
  23. One thing I still am uncertain about is the gluten component of some skin products like gillette shaving gel and my wife's makeup etc, I am also not currently taking any probiotics or vitamins but I see them listed in many peoples blogs. Any recommendations as far as vitamins or probiotics. I live in a rural area without a lot of access to major health...
  24. I am relatively new to this diagnosis over the past 2 1/2 months, and for the first 1 1/2 months probably ingested gluten without realizing it, how frustrating, but over the past couple of weeks I have been what I would consider as being very religious with being strict. I have cross referenced meds, eat very little of anything, checked home products, yet...
  25. Thanks again for the words of encouragement, it seems patience when you feel like dog doo-doo, is a hard thing to come by, one thing that seems to be really aggravating in addition to the abdominal pain is the mid back pain and muscles aching. I have always been a very physically active guy, but this is kicking the snot of my muscles with aching and fatigue...
