  1. Thanks for the reply foam. Not exactly what I wanted to hear ( ) but I definitely appreciate and will consider all advice. The problem now is that I don't even like the look of meat. It makes me gag. I can't imagine having to go back on my principles especially when to do so means that I'm going to have to force myself to eat something that repulses...
  2. Interesting. Thanks guys. I don't know if it would be food poisoning, since no one else got sick, but I guess there's a chance. I guess it's hard to say. I worried right away "maybe I've been glutened!!" but I also didn't want to jump to conclusions. The good news is that I'm feeling better today. I just wondered if those were some signs I could look...
  3. Hi rymorg2, I don't have much to add other than to echo what everyone else has said on here. I am in the same type of boat as you. Gluten-free vegetarian who just had a food intolerance test reveal that I now need to try going yeast-free, oat-free, dairy-free, peanut-free....and the list goes on. I try not to let it get me too down. I go back and...
  4. So in 2010 I became a vegetarian by choice. I should state up front that I have no intentions of going back on this. In January 2012 I went gluten-free after being diagnosed with Celiac disease. So I was a gluten-free vegetarian....okay...it was tough but I managed. After having tummy troubles for the past 2 months, my doctor sent me to have a food...
  5. Hi All, I've been diagnosed with celiac disease and have been gluten-free for a year now. Last night I went to my Mom's house for dinner (as I do on a regular basis). She normally makes "regular" recipes for everyone, and then my own special gluten-free version for me (e.g. scalloped potatoes with regular flour for everyone else, and a special pot made...
  6. Thanks everyone. I could look into taking magnesium, calcium and zinc. I don't take any of them right now. I don't know if I have any other autoimmune diseases. My doctor says my CBC is normal, as is my thyroid. If I had another automimmune disease would it affect my CBC score? (Although I guess my celiac disease didn't...). But I wouldn't even...
  7. I'm hoping someone can maybe shed some light on this for me as my doctor seems completely perplexed...and I'm waaaay passed frustrated. I've had chronic infections for almost 3 years. At first I thought they were yeast infections but then my doctor told me they were more like bacterial/group b strep. She thought it was due to hormones so she took...
  8. Hi everyone! Just an update to say that I had no trouble bringing food through the airport. I was worried because I had an apple and even a burrito (packaged) as well as mini packs of pb and prepackaged cheese. Anyway, I sailed through with no problem. The US security agent just said that I wouldn't have been allowed to bring a citrus fruit over ...
  9. ROLFL I can relate to that!!
  10. Regular soda plus a can of sweetened condensed milk!!?!! I can already feel my teeth aching...
  11. (a.) I would definitely read that blog too (b.) I can't tell you how much, as a newbie, this thread has been so inspiring and uplifting. Sound minds and positivity. I just can't thank you all enough. I'm still in the "overwhelmed" stage so reading this post brought be back.
  12. I would absolutely love to start running again. Nothing makes me feel the same way as my nice runner's high I used to get post-run. Unfortunately I developed PFS (runner's knee) so I had to stop running, and then my celiac syptoms (this is pre DX) started to flare up. I was so fatigued all of the time I couldn't even imagine putting on my shoes. I do...
  13. So there's potential that I could have hair (I'm at 1/4 of the hair I used to have), a flat belly, and a butt!!! Best news ever!!!! I'm forever doing squats and feel like nothing's changed. Maybe being gluten-free will help with my muscle tone too!
  14. I'm in the same boat as you. I didn't have many GI symptoms, other than the big C all of the time but the worst was that my stomach would get so distended I thought it was going to blow up and I had terrible back pain from the pressure on my other organs. I actually got stretch marks from it happening on and off for years. Anyway, I'm 3 weeks gluten-free...
  15. Thanks to everyone for your replies. Sorry it's taken me a while to get back here! The airports I'll be in are Chicago and Dallas. But my layovers are very short so I don't expect to have any time to eat in the airport restaurants. So I'm hoping to bring enough food with me so I don't have to worry about it. I don't think I'll do the "Go Picnic" because...
  16. This is awesome!! Thank you!
  17. CONGRATS!!! That's so amazing! I really really hope I can post that same thing one day. I've got about 1/4 of my hair left. It's really bad. I'm keeping the faith that it will come back. I've just got to give it time (I'm only 3 weeks gluten-free). Anyway, like others have said, I just wanted to say CONGRATS and thanks for helping give me hope...
  18. Hello, I'm going on vacation soon and our travel time to get to our destination is 17 hours. We have 3 flights (all in Canada and USA). I'm wondering if anyone has ideas of what food I should bring in my carry-on? I'm worried about not finding things to eat at the airport. I was thinking of nuts, gluten-free granola bars...but I got stuck at that and...
  19. I'm going to Oahu soon too and am worried about what to eat. My husband and I have rented a condo with a kitchenette and plan to buy our own food and cook at "home". However I hope we'll be able to go out to eat more than a few times, so I'm interested to read replies to this post as well!
  20. Thank you so much! This is so incredibly helpful and informative! Many thanks!
  21. Hi there, Does anyone know what exactly the GI will test for with the biopsy? Is it just for signs of celiac disease? Or will the biopsy also show if there is a possibility of intestinal cancer? Thanks to anyone who can help shed some light for me.
  22. As best I could I stuck to non-processed food. Although I did try the occasional gluten-free product, I tried to steer clear of them. I virtually ate the same types of foods as I did before going gluten-free. Lots of fruits and raw vegetables, beans, lentils, dairy products (and I did call the companies to confirm which products had cc risks), eggs, nuts...
  23. Oh man, that is very scary. Hopefully you get an appointment sooner than later so you can get your answers! I remember when my doctor said I had cancerous cells and had to get a biopsy to see if they were malignant or benign. I am thankful to say that in my case they were benign but I know the anxiety that lasted throughout the process. I pray that your...
  24. That's the really weird twist to all of this. I went gluten free for 4 weeks and my stomach only got progressively worse. The bloating and pains ended up stretching all around to my back. I was so sick for the past week my stomach felt like it was exploding. But I never got sick. If anything, I couldn't seem to get my digestive tract moving. Even with...
  25. Me again.... Also wondering if the biopsy/scope can tell the difference between gluten intolerance/sensitivity versus celiac? I don't know enough about all of this. Which is why I'm happy to go to a GI to talk about it all...
