  1. I have never been able to tan. I mean, I would be out swimming, canoeing, whatever, and have not had the need to wear sunscreen because I don't burn or tan. In the last several weeks, I have been painting my house & swimming alot on the weekends. I am darker than I have ever been (doesn't take much) and I'm shocked. A friend of mine suggested that...
  2. Kahlua and Amarula are also gluten-free, yum!

    ARCHIVED # 2 Gastro Visit

Hi, I just came back from seeing my gastro doctor. Really strange to me, what he said. I asked him about getting bloodwork done on Connor (my 3 yr old) and he asked me if he had any symptoms. After telling him no, he said that he wouldn't test him at this time, he would if I noticed any digestive difficulties or if he had any delayed growth. I asked him,...
  4. Well Steve maybe you can find someone that is willing to take those risks to prove your case but I won't be one of them. I WILL NOT eat gluten to try this, it is too big of a risk to ask of any of us. Chicken? Yeah I am. I cannot afford to get sick and not be able to go to work and help support my family. My Priorities are where they should be, I have too...

    ARCHIVED # 2 Gastro Visit

Thank you all, I will ask about getting gene/bloodtests for my son while I am there and get a copy of the bloodwork that was done on me. That was positive. I didn't actually have a positive biopsy. The gastro told me after the endoscopy that the damage was visible through the scope but the pieces he took weren't positive when the tests came back. He...

    ARCHIVED # 2 Gastro Visit

Hi guys & gals- I was just diagnosed 2 months ago. Basically, I was called by my Gastro doc and was told I had Celiac and to go on a gluten-free diet and he'd like to see me in 8 weeks. Luckily, I had read about Celiac and was pretty sure at this point that I had it so I was somewhat prepared for what I had to do. (At least with food, if not the other...
  7. Kahlua & Amarula are gluten-free.
  8. Okay, I'm eating away at my gluten-free spagetti, checking out the topics, reading what's up, clicked on this one and ugh, I got to the part about little worms and I couldn't handle the pasta anymore. I guess I should pay attention to what I'm reading when I'm eating, or what I'm eating when I'm reading..HA
  9. Annie- I love Kinnikinnick rolls and bread. I find the hamburger buns a bit too large for me and take 2 out of the freezer and cut each one into 3 pieces to make an extra bun. More cost effective that way too. I also agree that the Tapioca White Bread is the best I've had yet. And there is a flat $10.00 shipping charge for whatever you order from them...
  10. Hi Groggle, I have only been on the gluten-free diet for 2 months and I must say, it is getting easier all the time. Keep reading here, these guys are fantastic, supportive, and full of knowledge on this disease. I felt very overwhelmed about it and for a week all I ate was chicken breast meat and green salad with cidar vinegar. Now I am eating nachos...
  11. Hi- I live in Maine on the NB border, pass by the legendary Tim Hortons every day on my transit to work. Do you know if the French Vanilla Cappucino coffee is safe? I hadn't had time to check on it yet, thought you guys would probably know. Thanks- Patty
  12. Jolene- I had my bloodwork done approx same time as my biopsy. The doctor told me he saw intestinal damage when he was doing the biopsy but the results from the specimens taken were negative. I asked why and he said that he only took 3 and those areas must not have been affected. My bloodwork was all positive. I am going to see him again in a few weeks and...
  13. Mandigirl1- Hi, I am a 34 year old, wife, mother of a 3 year old, manage a busy retail store and I also take an anti-depressant. I've only been gluten-free for 6 weeks and I think my body is still recovering. But I have also noticed that I feel much better when I am eating whole meals instead of my "quick fix" of Lays & Reeses. I tend to be really...

  15. Hi there- As many of you have stated, everyone has different taste. I personally don't care for the Kinnikinnick White Sandwich bread but absolutely love their Tapioca Bread....weird huh?

    ARCHIVED Sleep

Do any of you have trouble getting to sleep at night? I seem to be able to sleep during the day and certainly sleep-in in the morning but sometimes I have trouble at night. Like right now, I have to get up in 7 hours and I'm wide awake! Not good.... Patty
  19. Cookie- Hi, I've had similar experiences with certain types of foods, such as nuts, corn, or anything with a skin on it. This is something that I had before going gluten-free and since. I know my Mother has the same (Celiac suspect....long story) Do you have any pain with it? -Patty

    ARCHIVED Miserable

I had similar symptoms before I was diagnosed with depression. My counselor called mine "pre-morbid functioning" yuck, what a term! Patty
  21. BellaSara- I suppose everyone is different and it would depend on alot of variables, but I had a baby three years ago, I wasn't diagnosed with celiac disease until last month. I will tell you, I was very ill, especially the first trimester. I would have done things alot differently if I had known. I purposefully ate whole wheat bread and other foods that...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

Hi Jenn- I took 50mg Zoloft for awhile and I am currently on 20mg Lexapro. I had no issues with Zoloft, I was only taken off of it because it was thought to be the reason for my diarrhea, which in fact was celiac, I just didn't know it yet. I went off them for about a year and was fine until a death in my family and have since needed them. I do not feel...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

Jenn- These were symptoms that I experienced also, and my doctor prescribed an anti-depressant along with counseling. It was definitely the answer for me. I took a low dosage and it was enough to really help and quite frankly, I had wished I had taken something long before. Now I realize that everyone is different and maybe you should try other things first...
  24. Welda, I have been having alot of that "brain fog" and tiredness lately. I have been gluten-free for about 4 weeks, I have been very careful. Physically, I feel great, but I wonder if I need the same dosage of antidepressant that I've been taking before?! Any ideas on this? Anyone? -Patty
  25. You go girl- You obviously have great determination, go for the gold!!! Great luck to you!
