Thank you again. Last night I worked on a grocery list of naturally gluten free foods and worked out some menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Today after work going to the grocery store and stocking up. I still need to double check my vitamin supplements and medications, I know they are gluten free but going to check for soy and other possible triggers...

ARCHIVED This Is All So Overwhelming...
sharilee replied to crissy82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know it is overwhelming, I have been gluten free for two months. And I am still learning what I can and cannot have. It does get easier. When I was first diagnosed with celiac, I printed off the forbidden list that was available here at celiac.com and took with me to the store and checked ingredients with it. Now I am able to recognize most of the hidden... -
I was diagnosed with celiac disease in late February 2012 after a positive biopsy. The symptoms got better at first then returned. So next step I cut out lactose and soy, still having symptoms. This weekend I was eating blue diamond crackers which were label gluten free but noticed on the box in very small print, tested to contain less than 20 ppm of gluten...

ARCHIVED Positive Blood Work But Negative Biopsy
sharilee replied to nmc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tested positive on blood work for celiac disease in July 2011 and negative for the biopsy in August 2011. I had a second biopsy in February and it was positive then for celiac. So it still may be celiac disease. Soy could also be a problem, I can't have soy as it causes problems as well. -
ARCHIVED A Month Since Diagnosed With Celiac Now Lactose And Soy Free
sharilee posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It has been a little over a month since I was diagnosed with celiac disease and went gluten free. I improved but was still having problems so now the GI wants me to be lactose and soy free as well. When I was a baby I had a soy allergy but out grew it, the doctor said I may have redeveloped my soy allergy. As for lactose he said a lot of celiacs can not... -
I have the same problem at work. It is not easy. I keep gluten free snacks in my desk drawer to nibble on when there are temptations at work.

I am sorry your family is not being more understanding. Have you tried labeling your foods with your name? Also maybe give them some literature on cross contamination, if they are not listening to you but they will get it when they read it in writing. Hang in there in the mean time and we are here if you need to vent.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
sharilee replied to Teachermndiaz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't go gluten free until after meeting with the gastro doctor, he will probably want to do a biopsy of the small intestine and once you start eating gluten free the small intestine begins to heal and it may mess up the results. My celiac was stumbled across by chance. I never had any real severe digestion symptoms, I had fatigue, brain fog, dizziness... -
Welcome! I was diagnosed myself a month ago and since being gluten free I am feeling better and it is wonderful.

ARCHIVED Vitamins/minerals?
sharilee replied to BrittLoves2Run's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did your doctor do blood tests to check your vitamin levels? Mine checked my vitamin D, vitamin K and vitamin A to see if the celiac had affected any of those. If you are concerned you might ask your doctor to run vitamin level blood work. But, if you are feeling great with just a multi vitamin you should be fine. -
I was diagnosed myself three weeks ago. My husband is not gluten free. We did a big cleaning and organizing. The top two shelves in the pantry are for all my gluten free stuff and the lower shelves house gluten foods (that way nothing can fall with gluten onto my stuff). In the fridge, the top shelf is mine for the same reasons. We have two cream cheese...

I was just diagnosed three weeks ago myself and I am still learning but I can tell you Dr. Pepper (my all time favorite soft drink) is gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Rice Cooker And Pressure Cooker?
sharilee replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently invested in a rice cooker and love it. It is so easy to clean and I find it easier to make the right amount of rice. I have a pressure cooker but never use it. I prefer a crock pot to a pressure cooker. I have never tried cooking rice in a pressure cooker so I have no idea how well it would work. -
ARCHIVED Need Tips To Safely Be Gluten Free And Keep My Family On Gluten
sharilee replied to Christine0125's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to be gluten free because of celiac and my husband does not. What we do, is have two different containers for peanut butter, butter, jelly, etc. Mine have stickers on them to mark them as the gluten free containers. Then he has his own peanut butter, butter, jelly, etc. Catsup, mayo, etc, we buy squeezeable containers so there is no dipping in the... -

ARCHIVED Confused About Endoscopy Results
sharilee replied to jenn42's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Last summer, I had a positive blood work for celiac and they did an endoscopy and it showed no damage to the small intestine. The doctor recommended testing in six months. Which I did and this time the endoscopy was positive. Last summer they did the blood work because of hypothyroidism (many increases in medicine were not working) and they wanted to see... -

ARCHIVED New To The Gluten Free World
sharilee replied to Littllemel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am newly diagnosed myself, I am nearing the end of my second week being gluten free. I am starting to feel better and noticing changes. It is very hard a first but it is starting to get easier with each passing day. -
I was recently diagnosed myself and I have encountered a lot of the same comments. I think most people mean well and are just trying to understand celiac but at the same time it does feel like they are downplaying what we have.

Welcome! I was just diagnosed with celiac on February 22nd. I was in shock when I went for the first blood work and they took all those vials. Then even more shocked after I was diagnosed with celiac and they took more blood to check my iron, vitamin levels, etc. Never had so much blood taken in my life. Keep us posted on the results.

Thank you for the information. I just signed up for the pot luck on the 25th of March -
I was diagnosed with celiac on February 22nd and have been on a gluten free diet since February 24th. I am doing fine with being gluten free at home but work is another story. First, there are girl scout cookies everywhere! Second, people keep bringing in pastries! Third, people who do not know I have celiac at work keep offering me goodies. It is so...
