  1. For years I've used candied ginger. I sometimes eat a piece before I eat something that is particularly gassy and then after. I helps in getting rid of the gas but not keeping it from happening. I used it extensively when I was pregnant. I might give the peppermint oil a try though. I have to say that since being gluten-free I don't have the trapped...
  2. Hi Liz, I am a self diagnosed Celiac. I too eliminated things one by one. Then it was discovered that my daughter was Celiac. She was diagnosed by blood test only as she was too ill to go on for any more testing. So I started to do her diet as well. I don't know for sure if I am Celiac but I'm not willing to go back on wheat to get a gold seal diagnosis...
  3. Hi Rachal, My daughter was diagnosed in 2001 and it took her 2 years to get better. She was extremely sick and on death's door. One thing that I learned was to change my cooking utensils as they can cross contaminate. I got rid of all my plastic stuff as I figured I could get steel and glass clean. Any fry pans that had that nonstick coating on went...
  4. I was looking back on former topics to learn how to use the board effectivly and saw that in July and April there was discussion on lack of use by members who are either new or old members. Well, for me I do not post much as when a question comes to mind I find that there is usually an answer to it already, this is good. But I have a lack of understanding...

Is low iron levels a problem even after being on gluten free diet for some time? My sister in law is having problems with her iron level and has been gluten-free for 4years.
  7. PrincessLeah is my daughter. I didn't know that she hadn't logged out.

    ARCHIVED Gene Testing

In reading an article by Scott he had gene testing done for himself, his son, and his brother. I'm seriously interested as I have a feeling my side of the family has celiac disease. My husband's sister has celiac disease and it's from there that found that my daughter has celiac disease. In talking to my doctor he doesn't know of any labs in Canada that...
  9. Thanks. I did read over some of the prior talks on bread machines and didn't find them overly helpful. I wanted to contact Sunbeam, B/D and such but all of their web sites contain everything but breadmakers. I'll have to contact them directly via phone. Thanks again.
  10. I make my own Oreo cookies from a recipe from Betty Hagman's The Gluten-free Gourmet Makes Dessert. They are fabulous. They are a little time consuming but worth it. My daughter loves them.
  11. Hi, I'm new at this chat thing so I hope I'm doing this right. I have friends who are Italian with "IBS". I've given them gobs of info but they are sticking with what the dr says. It's so frustrating.
  12. I have found through trial and error that I cannot eat anything that contains citric acid and chocolate. I have the same problem. Even eating very cheap chocolate will do it. I use a cortizone based cream that my husband got from the doctor for his DH. Give it a try and go off these things for a while and see what happens. You may have sensitivites to...
  13. Hi, I'm new to the board. My daughter was diagnosed in 2001 when she was 9yrs. I'm an undiagnosed celiac. I need to simplify my life and get a bread machine. Are there any suggestions? Thanks
