ARCHIVED Upcoming Holidays...
prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Loe2travel....that all sounds delicious, but my inlaws are 100% Ukrainian and very very traditional at that turkey with stuffing is a must, mashed potatoes and gravy....cabbage rolls (I make my own and conveniently they are already gluten-free), three different kinds of perogies (still looking for gluten-free recipes), broccoli cauliflower casserole ... -
I made it through thanksgiving without having to worry about the gluten-free menu. (We went to my brothers and my SIL is also celiac). But I am hosting all my inlaws for Christmas...all of them. So I have been searching pinterest and allrecipies, looking for good gluten-free holiday dishes. I don't want to take the easy way out seeing I usually throw quite...

My hubby and I were actually just talking about taking a little trip across the border soon. We can be in Minot ND in about 3.5hrs. (We are from Saskatchewan) I can get some bare essentials about 45min away. I googled pacific naturals. Yes they will ship up here right from their warehouse but shipping charges would be insane! I'm sure there has to be... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Few gluten-free Alternatives
prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From what I understand, 'big river' dot com doesn't ship to Canada. And 'big river' dot ca doesn't sell food items. I did find 'well' dot ca which is a canadian based online health and wellness site. I did find a few things there (a little pricey) and am going to Google pacific and see what pops up for availability in Canada. Thank you everyone for... -

We have officially had our son completely gluten-free for a month now, and it is going well. However there are a few things I really truly do miss and can't find a gluten-free option for... Condensed cream of chicken and cream of mush. soup, goldfish crackers, cheese and breadsticks (for school lunches), soup (soda) crackers. Also those of you with... -
ARCHIVED Pretty Sure I Glutenized (?) My Son...
prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good gosh, I hope it isn't the dairy! Much of the kids diet is dairy based. He drinks a lot of milk. I don't buy juice...ever. Except for pure orange on a rare occasion or for PreK. -
ARCHIVED Pretty Sure I Glutenized (?) My Son...
prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nope, he's had all those products at least once since his dx. All I can think of is the bread. I made it in the bread machine. I made sure to wash it well, but in all reality, it is old. It was a hand me down from my mom, but I thought it was safe. Or even maybe an ingredient in the bread. I'll have to go back and look again -

I don't know where it would of come from, but I'm pretty sure I fed him gluten somewhere. Yesterday evening he was complaining his tummy hurt followed by nasty poops before bed. prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nice to 'meet' you. For as much as this is going to come out wrong so please don't take it the wrong way. It's awesome to not be the only one in my shoes. I'm sorry you are going through many the same battles we are. He hasn't been officially dx'ed either. His bloodwork was positive last Monday, but if I would of been paying attention, it is obvious.... -

ARCHIVED Online Shopping..

Do any of you shop online for your none perishables? Seeing I don't have access to alot without going into the city, and when I do, the selection isn't very good and super expensive. I'm hoping I will be able to order different pastas, bread mix, etc online somewhere. -
I'm in Sask. But I'm not the one with Celiac in my family...my 4yo son does

ARCHIVED Question About My Son's Symptoms
prairiemamma posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A bit of a recap. Monday we got his results, Tuesday -did alot of gluten-free shopping and switching to gluten-free items. He has been 100% gluten-free Wednesday on (to my knowledge anyway). A little tmi (I'm sorry) but when I was wiping him (he just turned 4) he was all excited about his poop. He had what he called biggy poops instead of owie poops. It was... -
ARCHIVED My Son's Bday Party Is Tomorrow...
prairiemamma replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Not only did they eat it...I got compliments!! The adults said it was awesome and the kids loved that the cake was purple and green. It was heavy but moist. Almost like a pound cake heavy. I'm assuming that is from using rice flour instead of wheat. -

Thanks! I'm really proud of how it looks. I hope it tastes ok. This will be my first ever gluten-free baking. I did almost booboo though. Apparently walmart brand cooking spray has flour in it. Good thing I checked! I had heard cooking sprays are fine, but apparently just Pam original -

My son's bday party is tomorrow. I got the gluten-free cake under control, got gluten-free snacks. I forgot I need to decorate this cake lol Does anyone have a good and quick icing recipe that is suitable for tinting and piping? Oh, and is food coloring gluten-free? -
Is there something out there similar to gold fish crackers? My kids love all the different flavor gold fish and now with my middle boy's being gluten-free, is there an alternative?
