ARCHIVED Introducing Solids To Baby
shan1523 replied to Katepfeiffer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, This is such a tough question, and we have similar issues with figuring it all out...here is my background and what my ped GI told me... my 2.5 year old son has celiac and I have a 6 month old daughter who has a milk allergy and is also milk and soy protein intolerant. She is on neocate formula...we tried rice cereal at 5 months and it was horrid... -
ARCHIVED So Confused....
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the replies...its just so hard, cuz I want to know, but I dont want him to suffer, my DH and I decided to stop trialing the gluten since tests are often inconclusive so young anyways (and I dont want to do the biopsy (my 3month old has to have one for gerd issues and that will be hard enough) anyway we started to see his behavior and mood change... -
ARCHIVED So Confused....
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thats kinda why Im confused --in the past he has reacted to accidental glutening, and now no reaction at all...he is tired, but he also gave up naps and has a colicky/GERDling sister who keeps him awake.... I know part of me doesnt want to trial it in case Im hurting him, but then I also just want to know...like give it 2 weeks and then do the full celiac... -
Ok, mini-history...ds Noah started solids at 5 months age, reacted badly to oatmeal and barley cereal, rash, distended belly, screaming in pain and diarrhea, so we took him off gluten...well except I didnt know all hidden gluten stuff, so he would have diarrhea and the rash stayed for a few more months, he was always a big boy (9.8 born at 36 weeks, yes the...

shan1523 replied to taweavmo3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She does sleep in a sling during the day some...but I also have a two year old, so I have some one on one time with him My ped said the carseat at night is fine, she has room to wiggle and what not...she sleeps more free than my 2 year old who was swaddled for 8 months...and tightly at that, and besides celiac is developing fine...She cant sleep in a crib... -

ARCHIVED Just Need To Vent
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for letting me vent Oh and Dh is very supportive and gets just as mad/annoyed as I do, but is more of a "quiet type" so he supports us wholeheartedly, but doesnt really explain alot of stuff to the rest of the family. DH was a little skeptical at first (when ds was 5 months and we were realizing something was wrong) but ever since hes been about a... -
ARCHIVED What Infant Formula Is Gluten-free?
shan1523 replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Alimentum is gluten-free, and so is Nutramigen...that is what my dd is on...but like the last poster said you may need Neocate..it doesnt have any of the milk protien (ali and nutra just have it very very broken down) and it also has an amino acid base, versus any protein base or corn base... we may have to go down that route, but Im hoping not too... good... -
Hello all, I know I dont post alot, just here and there, but I do read and learn from you all a lot... ARCHIVED Have Ds With Celiac, Pregnant With #2
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have just recently realized that I should maybe have gone gluten free during pregnancy for the baby. I have not been tested, and do want to in the future, but our insurance doesnt cover all of it (they covered my son, but wont cover testing for me....I hate insurance) and we cant afford enterolab right now.... I do have plenty of help after baby, my husband... -

ARCHIVED Starting Baby On Solids. What Would You Do?
shan1523 replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what I have heard/read...in general popluation the into-ing of gluten from 6-9 months is best, but have also heard that waiting until a year is best for those prone to/ have genetics leaning to having celiac...I have yet to find a clear-cut answer, but wanted you to know I feel for you, Im about to have my 2nd child and dont want to see her go through... -

Its all so overwhelming...If only it were more talked about in mainstream medicine...even with my ped who I adore, he is learning as we go....at least he is willing to look into new research and stuff, but he hasnt been so clear cut on when to intro what....I do plan on breastfeeding as long as possible... -
ARCHIVED Have Ds With Celiac, Pregnant With #2
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the replies. I havent spoken with our nutritionist yet...but have read online about the 6-9 month window, but then have heard from people who actually have talked to their docs about waiting a year...thats why I am so confused. I think the waiting till a year may be best for us.... thanks again for all the info. Shannon -

Hello, While I dont post much to this site, I read and learn so much from it. (I am still learning stuff everyday) Anyways, I have a son who in 2 weeks will be 2 years old and has celiac, from a borderline blood test, and positive dietary changes....He showed signs/symptoms at 6 months when we intro'd solids (barley cereal and oatmeal, then biter biscuits... -
ARCHIVED When To Introduce Gluten To Babies
shan1523 replied to cfriedman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Im not an expert by any means, and am still new to all of this as far as background info, but I know that I gave my son gluten at 5 months (we did rice cereal at 4.5 months then started baby oatmeal at 5 months then baby barley cereal at 5.5 months) and my son showed signs immediately. THere are no celiacs in my familly that we are aware of (lots of crohns... -

ARCHIVED Iron
shan1523 replied to scaredparent's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I dont know if this info will help, but depending on if your child will still eat it, I give my son the baby rice cereal (gluten-free) but fortified with iron, he has been anemic in the past while not gluten-free, but his numbers keep going up and hes ok now. He wouldnt take a pill very well at this age so I make sure he gets the rice cereal everyday. ... -
ARCHIVED New With Testing Q?
shan1523 replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all your replies. I feel better about my decision...and I am going to wait until age three at least to even "challange" gluten again, and then decide from there if an "official" diagnosis is needed. I often wonder if I should be tested though as I have been given the diagnosis IBS, but I guess soon I may be able to judge just based on the diet... -
Hello, first of all this board is awesome, Ive already read a lot of other posts. My question is this first...is it true that my child would have had to have been on gluten for a period of time before the basic blood test...it came back negative so my ped thinks all is well...but my son has been gluten-free for about 5 months since each time Ive "tried"...
