  1. Eclara, Prior to my Dx, 7 months ago, drinking two glasses of wine gave me a relaxed " buzz". At present two glasses of wine have no intoxicating effect at all. In fact what follows is a sleepless night and several days of symptoms similar to having ingested gluten. Organic wine and " gluten free " beer have the same effect.
  2. Who cooks meat?, you eat it raw ,right after foraging for your produce. Are you saying you still live with your Dad ? Keeping on topic, There is a drug or do you prefe r" medication ", for people who jump to conclusions. I would have supplied a link but I did not want to jump to any conclusion
  3. Are you exaggerating to make a point ,or do you truly believe your MD and " big Pharm" are conspiring to keep you "ill " ? Perhaps its time for a new MD ?
  4. Good Morning IrishHeart, " Deprived " is your word, I said I was not satisfied eating produce and unprocessed meat nor with the lack of spontaneity. Developing Celiac's was not an epiphany for me, I have long understood the value of eating right and exercise. My father introduced me into running when I was 14. For the past 30+ years I have averaged 20-2...
  5. More info on a number of potential Celiac Medications: Open Original Shared Link
  6. In my experience all walks of life have there temptations. We would like believe Doctors are above unjustly enriching themselves but human nature says otherwise.I know in my business we cannot offer gifts to clients and or prosprctive clients in excess of a certain dollar value. A charitable donation given to a clients pet charity also needs to requires a...
  7. Good, I was going to respond in like kind, but thought better of getting " virtually " slapped Business is the engine that drives our society . As you eluded to earlier. if the drug companies sponsor testing, and the more of the population is diagnosed there will be many changes. As the perceived target market increases more resources can be justifiable...
  8. bartfull,The article is a bit old ( 1999) and 199 physicians is a very small sample size. So, 5 patients a week attempted to pressure the MD into prescribing a certain med., and 30% of the time they succumb. If the efficacy of both drugs (the intended one vs. patients preference) is relatively equal , no harm done. Although, consumer groups and the states...
  9. I apologize for invading your space, no double entendre intended.
  10. Unfortunately with Celiac's it is a profound life style change not just dietary restrictions. The largest percentage of people with Celiacs are asymptomatic and undiagnosed. If I were 20 years old with no symptoms and were diagnosed with Celiac's and told if I did not change my life style significantly I will face certain health consequences later in life...
  11. I will respectfully point out for each medication you listed as a " failure " there are literally tens of thousands that have benefited mankind. I have yet to see one anabolic steroid or humane growth hormone advertised, yet their consumption is an epidemic in high school , college and pro athletics. If advertising is so effective , shouldn't there be...
  12. notme!, No other country in the world, ( by country I mean the US) does more research both privately funded ( Big Pharma) and tax payer funded- State college's that engage in medical research government grants, etc. for a cure to juvenile and latent onset diabetes . In addition, if an individual can evince financial need the drug manufacture(s), contrary...
  13. I do not share the distain the majority in this thread have with big bad pharmaceutical companies. Can I assume you folks disenchanted with the business end of modern pharmacology did not allow any of your children to be immunized against the devastating childhood illness and disease( Not possible unless you plan on home schooling in the US ). Additionally...
  14. Hello Pegleg84, Born and raised in Chicago and prior to being diagnosed with Celiacs it is without a doubt one of the best cities anywhere if you enjoy food, and who doesn't. One of the foods I miss most is Deep dish Pizza . There are fair number of places to get very good thin crust gluten-free pizza but not Deep Dish. Very encouraging you had such great...
  15. Hello djs89, I was diagnosed with Celiacs a little over 6 months ago. I do not believe there is much of a distinction between "intolerance " and " Celiacs " as they relate to symptoms . Unfortunately what you describe is my typical neurological symptomatic response to consuming gluten. Concurrently I experience some painful GI symptoms. Have you been...
  16. w8in4dave, I certainly know the feeling, I actually felt worse, for a time , when I initially stopped eating gluten. I have been running for so many years it almost like a " compulsion " to continue. It is great that you walk.
  17. Hello w8in4dave, I would encourage activity/exercise, going for walks if at all possible. Prior to my diagnosis, and when beginning the gluten free diet. I was exhausted ( still unusually tired) but I had a difficult time falling asleep, and only slept for a few hours. I never felt refreshed . As I forced myself to get back to my exercise routine. I began...
  18. Hello notme, There is something very sinister when something as wholesome as bread becomes poisonous. Certainly brings new meaning to " one man's meat is another man's poison. " I am from the Chicagoland area where deep dish pizza is almost a religion. Nothing better to have an ice cold beer with....I understand your loss.
  19. Good Evening DC, No problem with raisins, I cannot recall the last time I had a grape. I do eat the gluten-free trail mix sweetened with grape juice without a problem.
  20. Hello Ruth, I believe you misread my post. Like most folks, on occasion I have inadvertently eaten "gluten", therefore not 100% gluten free. I do not drink soft drinks diet or otherwise.
  21. Hello DC, Thanks for the pointers. I take a Multi-Vitamin and a Probiotic, have seen others mention a digestive enzyme ? I am eating more fruit than prior to my diagnosis but that is mostly mind over matter, not really enjoying it. I like the Mission brand corn tortilla better than any of the gluten-free bread I have had. I have noticed, even the certified...
  22. Hello notme, It is good to hear you are moving in the right direction . You have given me pause for thought regarding the length of time I may have been unknowingly doing damage. A good number of years ago I received a diagnosis of "Irritable bowel syndrome ". Also, I have seen a Dermatologist for what I now believe to have been Dermatitis Herpetiformis...
  23. I have not thought about a " unprocessed meat and produce " diet. I certainly would consider it. I appreciate your insight. I have kept a food journal, however, it is difficult to pin down what the offending food(s).
  24. I had a positive blood test for Celiac's in the late fall of 2012 . Biopsy confirmed Celiac late December. The symptoms that brought me to my GP were as follows: intense pain on my right abdominal side , joints ached, moderate headache on left side ,chronic loose stool, bloating and distenuated stomach, extreme fatigue, insomnia and I truly had a very...
