ARCHIVED Portable Kitchen For Travelling/staying In Motels
YankeeDB replied to YankeeDB's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Kabowman and Jenvan, thanks for your replies. What is a "camping stove"? What brands are good? Does it use propane? How easy/hard is it to find propane canisters and what are the safety concerns? What is the brand name of the frig that plugs into the car? I'm hoping not to have too much to carry as sometimes I do travel alone. -
ARCHIVED Portable Kitchen For Travelling/staying In Motels
YankeeDB posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm looking into assembling a "portable kitchen" for travelling and staying in lodgings that have electricity. What should be included? Which particular brands? 1. Camping-style cookware and tableware. 2. Toaster/convection oven with burners on top? (Or maybe just a one or two burner unit?). 3. Mini-frig? (Hmmm, this could be heavy.) How... -
ARCHIVED My Vegas Trip Did Not Go Very Well
YankeeDB replied to j9n's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I ate in a Vegas casino offering a prime rib special where they brought me a salad with croutons. Before sending it back, I "marked" one of the lemon wedges with my fingernail, and sure enough, all they did was remove the croutons. I told the waitress I suspected the salad had not been redone but she reassured me (I did not tell her how I knew). I decided... -
I received this email today: "On Cedar Point's web site they are now listing gluten free foods and desserts! However, they are not all available yet. I spoke with Gary Jones, Food Director and Instructor at C.P. and he informed me that he got clearance to provide all of the foods but then for some reason (probably finances) the company put the items on...

The "B12 Test" is Methamalonic Acid as VintageChick noted in this thread. It is NOT part of any of the standard blood test panels and so must be requested separately. It was my B12 deficiency that first got me on the research path that led to my celiac diagnosis. Even gluten-free I have trouble with B12 absorption (2.5 years gluten-free) so I continue...

My attitude towards food has changed. More and more I'm gravitating towards strictly meat, fish, vegetables and fruits and avoiding grains. I'm learning to make these food choices more enjoyable. I'm starting to look at eating as something that is enjoyable but NOT entertainment which is how it is often viewed in Western society. Unfortunately, most socializing...

ARCHIVED Thinking And Memory Problems
YankeeDB replied to megsylvan2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten free for 2 years now with many episodes of relapse (most recent 2 days ago from, I think, some ground beef from the market) that bring on the brain-fog for certain. Overall, my thinking can be very sharp if my diet is good in contrast to my months before diagnosis when I felt like my IQ dropped 30%. I also avoid a number of other foods... -

Thank you for replying to my post. For those of you with osteoporosis, what treatment measures are you following now? -
ARCHIVED Osteoporosis Meds Fosamax And Actonel May Be Harmful
YankeeDB posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have osteoporosis secondary to celiac disease and I know this is a common problem for us celiacs which is why I want to share this topic. My neighbor has taken Fosamax orally for 10 years and appears to have osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death of the jaw) following dental surgery. Guess what--the lawyers are circling on this emerging finding. Is... -

Two gallons of milk a week? Sounds like a red flag to me, if you're still exhausted. Some options: Use enterolab.com and get tested for dairy, yeast, and egg sensitivities. Use york.com and get tested for a variety of food reactions (tests different anti-body than enterolab). Join the Tuesday Club online (do a search) and try a Detection Diet...

ARCHIVED 100 (or More) Things To Do When You Are Glutened
YankeeDB replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
73. Take deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and blowing out gently and slowly through your mouth. Very soothing and eases pain. 74 Take Immodium if you absolutely cannot have any downtime. 75. Read a good book. 76. Listen to your favorite music. 78. Watch the news -- so many have it so much worse. 79. Indulge in your favorite... -
ARCHIVED What Can Be Going Wrong....
YankeeDB replied to bluesky8130's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Consider other food sensitivities. I didn't feel good until I used the Yorks Labs testing and eliminated soy, yeast, dairy, eggs, and a few other items. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill Baking Mix
YankeeDB replied to misskris's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You may already know that the Bob's Red Mill web site has recipes. As a last resort, you can use the flour as filler for salmon, tuna, and hamburgers (buffalo burgers) and meatloaf. It won't go to waste that way! -
Here is a good link so you can research malabsorption. Open Original Shared Link Coconut oil will help with absorbing fat-soluble vits including vitamin D. You might also want to be scanned for osteoporosis if you are D deficient. Don't let them just treat your symptoms--find out WHY (the voice of experience here!).

My suggestions: 1. Sleep as much as your body tells you to. 2. Take liquid and sublingual vitamins. 3. Consider trying a sublingual supplement called ATP (available from Bayho). 4. Exercise may make it worse or better; don't force it (like I did). 5. Other foods can cause fatigue too--getting tested for other sensitivities or doing an...

ARCHIVED Questions! Please Help.
YankeeDB replied to turtle99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For alternative treatments that may be useless, check quackwatch.com. I think testing by York Labs and Enterolabs are best for checking food intolerances including gluten. I used both and am very happy following the recommendations. -
Don't forget stamps, envelopes, medications/supplements and communion wafers.

ARCHIVED I Am Offically Gutenized! And Going Off The Deep E
YankeeDB replied to mela14's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Two weeks ago I had agonizing pain I could only trace to plain chicken breast. I'm convinced they inject it with broth (which can have wheat) to increase the weight and/or the juiciness. I now only buy organic chicken even though it is expensive. I've decided the next time I have a gluten reaction that includes severe pain (as opposed to less terrible... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed On 1/28/05

Maybe this is too obvious, but don't overlook the library as a source for books and other information on gluten-free living. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Fatigue And Lack Of Stamina
YankeeDB replied to jymles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My fatigue improved after I got tested for food allergies via York labs and as a result began avoiding daily, yeast, soy, eggs, pears, cashews, and sunflower seeds. -
ARCHIVED Chronic Fatigue Disease+cd
YankeeDB replied to chronic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My energy level didn't improve adequately until I got tested for other food allergies (via York lab online) and eliminated all dairy, yeast, soy, eggs and a few other foods. I think celiac disease causes a "leaky gut" and while it is healing, problem chemicals are still entering the bloodstream so the immune system is still on overdrive. We all know... -
I just met another Celiac with moderatly bad tremors, noticeable in her head and hands (like Katherine Hepburn's). I'm wondering if there might be a link with celiac disease? No other cause has been found in her case. Any other anecdotes?

ARCHIVED Is This A Gluten Reaction?
YankeeDB replied to wwebby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't always believe what manufacturers say about their products. Who knows how careful poorly paid workers are around these "dedicated lines". If I react to something, I avoid it in the future despite others' assurances. Just my GUT FEELING, you know?
