  1. Hey thanks - real gooc ideas - especially the thermos one, even for a Giants fan Petco park in San Diego allows all food in a small bag or cooler (they make you cut up fruit so you can't throw it). They even allow small un-opened water bottles. Thanks for the idea's, maybe not as hearty as a Subway sandwich, but works for me! Mo
  2. I went to the ER (bad stomach pains, vomiting) and the doctor said he'd release me and I should be ok, even they couldn't figure out what it was. He told me to eat dry toast and I told him I was allergic to wheat and he said "you don't have to eat WHEAT toast!" Um, a doctor.... No when I go out, I don't really make a fuss anymore. I get something that...
  3. Hi all - I am a big baseball fan and go to a lot of games. In the good old days, I would bring sandwiches and chips for dinner instead of buying the ridiculosly over priced ballpark food. Last year, I made salads, but felt like such a princess with the plate or whatever in my lap eating with a fork. I am usually good at subsituting but I am stummped can...
  4. Thanks guys, very helpful. Never thought about grilling anything, but don't see why not. Also like the make ahead sausage dishes! Maureen
  5. Also, here are some resources Open Original Shared Link
  6. I live in San Diego (work next door to PF Changs, yum) There is also a place in the mall there (across from Changs) Called Saigon Noodles. Everything (except for 3 dishes) is made with rice paper or rice noodles and is gluten-free. Just a fast food stand in a foor court, but quick and good. Also, I am from DC and one thing I notice about CA is that nothing...
  7. I am getting married in about a year and am stummped for an idea on what to serve! I am doing most of the work myself and thought about going to one of those companies that ship frozen appetizers to you and then I would just have server bake and serve. BUT - none of the sights I have found have any or very little gluten-free options. One idea I had was a...
  8. Hey, thanks all George - my symptoms before were like you said, constipation (or the other - which is worse, I think) gas and heartburn mostly. I was told that I had a wheat allergy and should follow a gluten free diet. I tried the beer this weekend and nothing happened. I did get gas that night, but, not to be gross, there was also a lot of chili there...
  9. I am following a gluten free diet and I feel much better, however I was told I am only wheat intolerant. I tired to only avoid wheat, but was too hard and went to gluten-free where you are sure it's wheat free. Anyway, I was at Sea World (Anhauser Busch park, however you spell it)) not too long ago and found out that Budweiser is all rice based, no wheat...
  10. You guys take all the fun out of venting.
  11. Ok, I can't beleive no one has mentioned my favorite: When I go out with friends for dinner and we are trying to decide where to go, I ALWAYS get, no matter who the person is, "Well, YOU'RE the "picky" one, so you should decide. Picky? Picky? Are you kidding me? Remember how I used to eat anything and everything? Now I am picky. UGH, drives me INSANE...
  12. I was only tested for celiac disease. No one seems to take anything very seriously. I have yet to find a Dr. that knows anything about this. The one doc that gave me the celiac disease test said it was ok to drink non wheat beer. I don't, but he said I could. I drink a lot of red wine - is an allergy to it connected to wheat intolerances or celiac disease...
  13. About 2 years ago, a Dr. told me I had an intolerance to wheat. Right after that, I got a Celiac test and it was negative. I've been on and off gluten-free diet (Doc said it wasn't a big deal) until this year (around June, but still make occaisional mistakes). Since gluten-free, I notice the stomach pains gone and I am more, er, um, regular, you could say...
  14. Only CORN tortillas. The ones I buy (Mission) say "gluten free" on the back. Any flour or special (like sun dried tomato or spinach, etc) will not do. I use them heated up for sandwiches since I haven't found a gluten-free bread I like yet. They fall apart eaiser then flour tortilla's, but it works and it's safe.
  15. I THOUGHT I was being gluten-free for 6 months now and there is just something ELSE wrong with me, but as I manuver through this site (which has done so much for me already!) I am realizing that I am not being as careful as I need to be. I never thought about cross contamination (am not celiac disease, diagnosed intolerant) because I didn't think it was a...
  16. I hear you about pants!!! I wear a size 4-6... unless I need to zip up and button. Thankfully the "hot" styles are billowy and loose right now. I live for elastic waist, flowy skirts. I THINK I am gluten-free, but now I'm not sure.
  17. This never, ever occured to me! What are the ingredients to look for? The same ones I look for in food or do I have to carry another list with me all the time? Jeez!
  18. has anyone had chronic pain in joints and muscles due to celiac disease? I thought I had an injury at work, was out almost a year because if it (neck, shoulder, wrist). No orthopedic/sprots medicine Dr. could really find anything that wrong with me, at least not consistent to the pain I was/am having. My "case" is over and all the Dr's say they've done all...
  19. OHMYGOSH, I have this too. I am pretty thin everywhere except for my belly, I totally look pregnant. I am not thristy "all" the time, though, at least that I have noticed. I have been gluten-free for over 6 months.... I think, I'm no good at it. Anyway, my Dr. (who knows nothing about celiac disease) ordered two sonograms (in two weeks) to try and find out...
  20. Ok, seriously, makeup??? I am new to this and just want to cry reading all these posts. So, stupid question probably, how on earth do you find out about your products? Do I need to check my deodrant, toothpaste? All my makeup? Like my mascara would hrut? Pardon if I am sounding dumb. Although I am learing that being dumb is a sign of celiac disease, which...
  21. Thanks everyone. This sucks. This forum realy helps so much!
  22. Wow, thank you... I guess I need to be educated better. Lots of info on this site I am collecting and I have an appointment to have a sonogram on my pelvis and abdomen to check out the bloating. Thanks again, it is nice to know that maybe I am NOT getting stupider.
  23. Are all those things (gas, memory, heart burn) associated wth gluten intolerance/celiac or can it be something else caused by celiac? So confused.
  24. Look what you started... can I have the list too? maureen92109@yahoo.com
  25. The boolwork said I was "wheat intolerant" according to my Dr. Is there something else?
