  1. Welcome kaytuh! (Did I get that right?) Different people will have different symptoms. You are lucky in the symptom aspect to just have the stomach aches and cramps! My symptom list would be about a page long....and I can't get my insurance to approve testing (another way you are lucky). You are welcome to message me and I will get you a listing of my symptoms...
  2. Haha, and I'm a French model.
  3. But in all seriousness, it would probably be beneficial to start researching things you are going to have to change. Your diet, restaurants you go out to, is your family going gluten free with you or just you? If just you, then separate cooking equipment (pots, pans, strainers, etc) and prep area. In the short term it will likely make you more confused/list...
  4. I can't suggest anything to keep same, I am convinced I list my sanity a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Oh, wait, that's Star Wars. But anywho, I've never been sane.
  5. Is an ounce or so of breast milk a "low amount"? Did you choose to stop breast feeding, or were you no longer producing milk? I ask because I was reading over the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center list of symptoms, and it mentions "short duration of breast feeding". As this is a list of symptoms, I would assume that it refers to a mother's symptoms...
  6. Yeah, I love my insurance. They are always first on the list to send a Christmas card to. #complete sarcasm
  7. Insurance won't cover any right now, so my an is go pay out of pocket at a lab, get results to my doc, then there will be reason for insurance to pay for it (and maybe even reimburse for my out of pocket expense). And I am aware that I need to have gluten, and I'm also keeping a journal showing what I eat, what issues I have, as when. :-)
  8. Anything like diabetes, lupus, thyroid issues, infertility/fertility problems, miscarriages, etc? Unexplained nutrient deficiencies?
  9. I have no clue about the prevalence of an 11 month old baby being positive. But I do know that a family history can help determine the chances. What medical diagnosis do you and your husband (assuming here) have? What about your parents and his parents? From what I have read, any presence of autoimmune disorders increases likelihood. There is also a long...
  10. It's beginning to look like my insurance will not want to cover testing without difinitive proof (a bit of a cath-22 there). I have found a lab that will do blood work out of pocket without doctor orders. My question is this: which one or two tests can I get that will be most likely to come back with an accurate result (preferably a positive since I'm pretty...
  11. Sidelined, I went about 2 weeks gluten free to see what happened, and I noticed a huge improvement. When I started eating gluten again, I feel worse than before. I'm still fighting to get the tests run, so I'm still eating gluten. I don't tell you this to scare you out of a gluten challenge, but to just give you a head up. Some of the reason I feel worse...
  12. Welcome Ace! What did the GI say today? You are VERY lucky to have a doctor who is aware of celiac! I have been fighting to get my doctor to just run the tests then bill the insurance without pre-approval because I am requesting the tests, not them ordering the tests. I am like you though, I've been dealing with issues as far back as I can remember, but I...
  13. Here is a list of tests that is recommended: Total Serum IgA tTG - IgA tTG - IgG EMA - IgA DGP - IgA DGP - IgG As far as convincing the doctor that a biopsy should be done even with negative blood tests, I have no clue there, hopefully someone with some information on that will chime in.
  14. If I were to just get one or two of those tests done, then bring results to the doc to do the full panel at my insutance's expense, which one or two would be the best (most likely to provide an accurate positive)?
  15. If I were to just get one or two of those tests done, then bring results to the doc to do the full panel at my insutance's expense, which one or two would be the best (most likely to provide an accurate positive)
  16. Maggie, welcome! I am fairly new as well, and have been having issues as far back as I can remember. From what I've read reading about celiac (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) thyroid and nutrient deficiency problems are often connected to celiac, in particular on nutrients is low iron. Pretty much all the symptoms you list are things I have found...
  17. Fitgirl, I definitely feel your pain about food. :-( I myself am a "foodie", I love going to new "hole in the wall" restaurants, and I live to cook. Italian cooking is actually my favorite (talk about a load of gluten). I am not a chef by job, but I am a chef at heart, I am the one all my friends come to for good recipes (most of which I make up walking around...
  18. Below is a link to a site I found for a lab work place in Atlanta that offers celiac testing without a doctor's orders. Can someone tell me which of the tests listed I would need to get done? Open Original Shared Link
  19. Haha. I was misinformed by the assistant at the doc office. I pulled up the blood work online (patient portal is awesome, the doc doesn't even know when I check up on things) and my A1C came back at 5.3, range for diabetes is........5.7-6.4. That doesn't seem like it's the middle of normal to me. As for the comment about the smart phone, TV, etc: I pay ...
  20. Karen, my health insurance is deciding that because there is no family history of celiac, it's impossible for me to have celiac, so that are not going to pay for the blood work or the scope. The A1C came back right in the middle of the normal range (which I am happy about) but if it had come back on either end of normal, the insurance had said (to me and...
  21. Check out the app "Find Me Gluten Free" (on iPhone, not sure about droid or blackberry). They have a listing of popular chains and what they say is safe. But I give a word of caution...request fresh gloves and food prepped on either plastic wrap or foil, and if it's fried be sure that they are frying it in FRESH (meaning has not been filtered and was just...
  22. Oh yeah, the A1C came back normal. :-/
  23. So I found a doctor (or actually a LNP) that has good ratings, is young (meaning up to date schooling), and close to me. I went to get A1C and a Gluten Panel done, she told me that the insurance was fighting doing gluten testing because there's no history, but she does feel gluten is a good suspect. She told me if the A1C came back abnormal, it would help...
  24. I still fighting my doctor (or actually my insurance company to be technical, doc is on board) to get celiac testing. Since I'm still waiting on testing, I have to keep the gluten in my diet... In an attempt to get everything I can connected to gluten, I have been keeping a "food and symptom" log. I have noticed when I eat something with high amounts of...
  25. I'm still looking for a good doc to see about testing for celiac, but after today I'm gonna have to go see the doc the ER listed because my sugar levels were all over the place (felt like crap, tested at 44mg/dl; ate regular bag of m&m amd 2 McDoubles; 45 min later sugar was at 113; 3 1/2 hours later felt horrible again, sugar was at 209; 20 minutes later...
