Alarmist midnight? This was posted at 02:43am my time! And the sad thing is, I was still lying in bed awake.

ARCHIVED The Likelihood Of Me Having Celiac Disease?Georgia-guy replied to mbaxter2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Meagan, welcome to the awesome people club! There is a string of this you listed that do point to celiac (family AI history, hypothyroid yourself, anemia yourself, Vit D deficiency-common yes, but celiac can be the reason behind it check blood work for other deficiencies, and a few of your symptoms). As for your symptoms, some can be from a "picky-back...

ARCHIVED Ignorant PharmacistGeorgia-guy replied to Eddierickles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Wi11ow, it's nice to know there are some medical professionals that do seem to know, and aren't too cocky to give you the manufacturer's numbers without you asking. I have a cocktail of drugs I cannot take, and recently moved all my Rx to a new pharmacy because they handed me a Rx that was straight up I couldn't take...then refused to do anything like give...

ARCHIVED On The Way To A DiagnosisGeorgia-guy replied to Ace2011's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms All I can say about a endoscopy/colonoscopy is I now know that if I get one done, I don't need drugs to sedate me...I can just eat a nice full meal of pasta (sad face), bread, tortillas (sad face), and pretty much anything made straight from wheat and I will be out in a short time. (It's weird cuz stuff with gluten in it, like twizzlers or soy sauce, have...

ARCHIVED How Do I Keep Sane?Georgia-guy replied to Maggie07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Elles, I had the same experience with nothing helping, then after it was mentioned by my nutritionist I did a reverse gluten challenge (officially coining that term) and began noticing improvements in a couple days, and definitely noticed them after a week. Then I went back to eating gluten after a week and a half and was in the ER with worse symptoms than...

ARCHIVED Retirement Gifts?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I do not know her hobbies. :-/ All I really know about her personal life is she's married, has a daughter, and is religious. I also have no clue if she has a big vacation planned or not.

I am 25, live out on my own, and don't really have much to do with family other than the holiday dinners. I will one way or another be getting the celiac blood tests done in the next week or two (depending on work schedule), and I'm pretty sure it will show positive. How am I supposed to tell my family? There's family history of AI disorders, but no Dx celiac...

ARCHIVED Dealing With Parties At Your HouseGeorgia-guy replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease *read all before getting mad* Ami, in her defense, at least she said she looked. She could have just not cared to look in the first place. Now, on the other hand, it is your house, and your allergen. That being said, I do find it rude and inconsiderate. She should have asked "will it be okay if I bring a gluten item for those who can have it?" Maybe explain...

I work for the government (not the IRS, i promise) and I just found out a couple days ago that the person I work under is retiring in July. This is my first "real grown up job" (ie, something I can actually make decent money to live off and make a career out of), so I've never had to do the whole retirement gift shopping. This lady has been a great help in...

ARCHIVED Advocating For YourselfGeorgia-guy replied to Steph1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Steph, you are not an inconvenience. There are many ppl on here that are not diagnosed...myself included. So I say welcome to you! As far as advocating for yourself, celiac is a hard thing to explain, easiest way to say what you can't eat without giving someone a doctorate in nutrition is "I can't eat wheat or grains". I am in the process of getting diagnosed...

KB, not trying to take over. But Cyclinglady, the tooth pictures, that discoloration is a sign of celiac?

ARCHIVED Which Test Is Best?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Cyclinglady, I was not offended by your out of pocket comments, I had already started looking for a way to do that. My finances are alright, I'm just under payment plans with creditors that I can't break, and a few ER copays ($250 a piece) in the past month-ish aren't helping much. It's just frustrating that I have insurance but they won't pay $500 for some...

ARCHIVED Which Test Is Best?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Oh, and the blood work results are nothing new...they had my old doctor (called and woke him up) send copies of all lab work in last 5 years for comparison. Turns out vitamin deficiency, malnutrition, and anemia should have been picked up on long ago. Go figure, that's also the doc who tried to give me medicine I'm severely allergic to.

ARCHIVED Which Test Is Best?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Well, on the bright side, ER lab wotk came back. Vitamin deficiency, suspected malnutrition (I eat ALL day long), loss of 10 lbs in 2 weeks (without change in exercise or eating habits), and anemia. Looks like I may now have enough, combined with abt a third of the Univ of Chicago Celiac symptom list, to get the insurance to pay up.

ARCHIVED Heard It On The Radio, So It Must Be True!Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders TGK, I am giving mommida lefty status because of being forced to be right handed. I am also a lefty. But as for your comment about your siblings, I am tempted to take that to the bank as the first thing I have seen that shows a connection to celiac and lefties.

ARCHIVED Heard It On The Radio, So It Must Be True!Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders No, Laura, you don't get triple score for righties. (After all, y'all use the wrong side of the brain

ARCHIVED I Find This Rather Amazing! From A Middle Schooler!Georgia-guy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease So a friend of mine sent me the link to an article in the Chicago Tribune. Reading what this 7th grade student with celiac is doing makes me want to go to Chicago on June 5th, but I have no vacation time right now. I think this is rather astounding coming from someone of her age, and makes me think that there's more to come from her as she gets older. Everyone...

ARCHIVED Heard It On The Radio, So It Must Be True!Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I think it would be interesting to see if maybe the Univ of Chicago Celiac Center could do a study, even as simple as a poll of celiacs they work with. (I have yet to actually find the study this article refers to.)

ARCHIVED Heard It On The Radio, So It Must Be True!Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Looks like there may be more righties on here. But I did find a study published in the New York Times from........1985. Page 2 starts off with "lefties are 2 and 1/2 times more likely to have autoimmune disorders" Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Which Test Is Best?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms So here's the newest plan...I'm at the hospital after passing out. They suspect anemia...I suspect one of my post-gluten naps came on too strong. But either way, I will have to follow up with the doc. When I follow up, I will make 1 last attempt to get the doc to force insurance to approve the celiac panel, if that doesn't work, then I will be going out of...

ARCHIVED Blood Test ResultsGeorgia-guy replied to Lisalee1211's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Lisalee, first of all, welcome! If your blood work showed positive, then it's positive. I'm sorry. :-( There would only be the question of how extreme was the positive? If the numbers were very high, then a biopsy would be beneficial to determine how much damage has been done to your intestines. (From my understanding, a higher count would mean more damage...

ARCHIVED Which Test Is Best?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Laura, thank you for that information. Is there anyway to know if my IgA would be off? I would I have to do the IgA total serum to know that? I plan to go get the test done Wednesday, so long as I don't get called into work (I work a job where I am on-call 6 days a week and can't say "sorry, I can't come in today" unless I'm admitted to the hospital)
