The What's For Dinner Tonight ChatGeorgia-guy replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Tonight was supposed to be a nice salad with garden fresh cucumbers and tomatoes (courtesy of one of my customers), and croutons made from Udi's hamburger buns (had to use them somehow since I didn't like them as buns). Followed by some baked chicken with gluten free pasta, sautéed red and green bell peppers, sautéed onions, red apples (don't give me looks, ...

ARCHIVED Dating Seems Impossible :-/Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease SMRI, she's not celiac (or at least she eats gluten should I say). But I agree, church is a very good place to meet someone. :-) Laura, she was on a long term mission trip. Can I wear a chicken costume when I ask her out? It will dramatize why I haven't done it yet. ;-P

PF Changs seems a little high class for when you're dining alone. Maybe if I could get the courage up to ask this girl out, and her go with me up to chattanooga. But this time it's probably gonna be just me.

So I know the whole "if she can accept the celiac restrictions, then it's a good sign" stuff....and I acknowledge that. But my problem is getting there. There's this girl that goes to my church, and she's just got this amazing personality. I just met her a few weeks ago, and made a fool of myself courtesy of brain fog, and every week since then I keep telling...

So next weekend I'm planning to go to chattanooga next weekend or whenever my next day off work is for the sole purpose of checking out a gluten free bakery someone told me about. Does anyone on here live in the area? Are there any good celiac friendly restaurants there?

ARCHIVED ? Misdiagnosed Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to sjlmckee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease If your blood tests were positive, then you have celiac. I have seen many people say that the scope biopsy is negative, and I have seen reports say that a scope biopsy misses as many as 1 in 5 celiacs (making it 80% accurate, much less accurate than the blood work which ranges from 92%-98% I believe). What you may have going on is intolerance or sensitivity...

ARCHIVED New HereGeorgia-guy replied to BeckyS.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs As for hours in the grocery store, right after I god diagnosed I went shopping at Kroger. Normally spent 30-45 minute for 2 weeks worth of groceries.....that day I spent almost 2 hours and had just over a weeks worth when I decided to call it quits for that trip. The next weekend I went to get another weeks worth and felt like a complete idiot.....they have...

ARCHIVED Frustrated With "gluten Fad Diet" CommentsGeorgia-guy replied to Ankharet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I hate those "fad diet" comments! I went out the other night with a couple friends, and got me some coke and jäger. The bartender asked my why I was wasn't eating, and I simply and nicely said "because your establishment doesn't have a gluten free menu, so I don't really trust the kitchen to prepare a gluten free meal for me". Her response was an attitude ...

ARCHIVED Gratitude--What Good Things Has Celiac Brought To Your Life?Georgia-guy replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease This thread should be pinned like the "newbies" thread is so the the newbies can see the upside from the start! But my addition to the list: -I actually feel like doing things because I'm not exhausted all the time -As someone else listed, I'm finally able to workout and not feel even worse -As a result of being able to workout, it is my goal to run a...

ARCHIVED Coping With Being The Odd One OutGeorgia-guy replied to across's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Wow, I know that's not fun. Is there any way you can maybe eat while they are in the cafeteria line, then still sit with them and enjoy a coke or something? This way you're not eating alone and being isolated during lunch? Other than that, I really don't know of anything cuz I eat when and where I want when I'm at work. :-/

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have a nice little letter typed up, now I just have to go to the library and print it since my printer broke. Adalaide, thank you for the picture of it! Now at least when I'm looking for it I know more than the name. I completely agree with you though that there are a few ppl who work there that actually have some integrity, they're just about as rare...

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Karen, while that is true for most employees there, it is not true for all of them. I do know someone who works at a different location who only works there because it buys her baby's diapers/food/etc andshows she's not a bum, which helps her get scholarships and grants to finish her pre-med (which will be done in December). But yes, I know she is the exception...

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Technically speaking, yes. However I would hope nobody would take the word of a store employee over their doctor and go pig out on gluten. However, it does make me wonder if that employee would tell someone "as long as you don't eat too much gluten you'll be fine" which I could see a newbie believing. **note to any newbies reading this: you can NOT eat...

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications That's what I thought, but I may still look up the code and reference it to make it a bigger deal and make them realize it's not a joke or a game. Maybe if they think a lawyer is involved I might actually get a reply "explaining" the behavior.

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?Georgia-guy replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Yeah. I asked what they meant by I look healthy so I don't have celiac, and was told they remember me a few months ago buying all kinds of bread and macaroni and stuff (which is true, and I'm sure they remembered it cuz I made a big deal about several things not ringing up the price on the shelf). In response I said "do since I didn't get diagnosed til recently...
