ARCHIVED Going Crazy!
mightymorg replied to Goliadman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Where in central TX do you live? I'm from Burnet, but currently live in Georgetown, and have lived in Austin. I understand it seems hard to find a good selection of gluten-free products. If you are near Georgetown, there's a health food store on South Williams Drive called The Herbery. They sell more gluten-free products than Whole Foods, hands down,... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Unnaturally Excited...
mightymorg replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was very excited yesterday when I went grocery shopping and got some Mi-del Ginger snaps! I've been using chocolate lately to curb my sweet cravings, but I'm getting burnt out on it! Those little cookies aren't bad and are a great change of pace! -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Has New Products That Look Tasty.
mightymorg replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
WHich flavor of the bread would y'all recommend? There's a place close to me that sells them, but there are so many kinds! And for that amount of money, I'd like to get the best tasting! -
ARCHIVED Abdominal Distention?
mightymorg replied to FaggieFresh420's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know how you feel. Bloating has got to me the most aggravating of this for me. I can handle feeling sick, but I hate being bloated. I'm 5'7", about 115, yet sometimes lood 6 months pregnant. I find that not eating gluten is the only thing that has had ANY effect on it at all. Right now, I eat pretty blandly (baked potatoes, banana with gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Help With A Grocery List Please
mightymorg replied to patricia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Right now gluten free cereal, bananas, baked potatoes and steamed veggies are the staple of my diet! Easy, cheap, good for you...except I have a problem with carrots, as I notice they go through (like many things) undigested. So lots of squash for me! -
ARCHIVED 15 W/ Celiac, And It's Just Getting Harder
mightymorg replied to Sophie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ditto what Jerseyangel said! Jackie, you know what you're talking about, and it shows. It's amazing how many ADULTS aren't even as rational as you are! I especially liked your analogy of cravings...people eating brown blobs. -
ARCHIVED Slow Moving Gut
mightymorg replied to LLRD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm also dealing with chronic constipation, the same as you. Tons of bloating...no fun. I also was diagnosed at first as IBS-C and given Zelnorm. It worked wonders (no C, no bloating, no gas) for a week and a half, and then it just flat out stopped working. So, my GI took me off of that and prescribed me Glycolax (Miralax). I have to take it 3 times... -
ARCHIVED Survived Colonscopy/endoscopy
mightymorg replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We knew you'd pull through! That's great that your doctor took biopsies and everything. I hope those come back good! -
What you typed completely reminds me of something that hasn't even crossed my mind! Every now and then I will be chewing on something...or even not eating anything...and I start feeling what seems like little bits of teeth. I can feel that the some of the teeth in the back of my mouth are a little jagged. And lately, just in the past week, my teeth have...

ARCHIVED New To Site- Looking For Advice- Long Post!
mightymorg replied to chaddwell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wanted to add in on the hair issue... I'm 20, but my hair is also falling out rapidly. I can tell it's a lot thinner, and I can pull out tons of strands running my fingers through it while in the shower. I know it's because of malabsorption, which makes since for all of us. THough, I know it takes a while for it to actually start growing again...I... -

ARCHIVED Sixteen W/ Cd
mightymorg replied to sweetiegrl109's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sophie, is there any way you can get a doctor's note to give to the administration of your school to allow you to bring your own food? You have a disease that has been officially diagnosed, and eating salad everyday for lunch when you're 15 is not the greatest thing for you!! It's worth a shot; I think it's absurd they won't let you bring your own food... -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
mightymorg replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't had an endoscopy, but the worst part will be the prep for the colonoscopy. Once you get that down, it'll be a breeze! They will give you some great pain meds and memory suppressants and you'll be feeling quite good afterwards! -
ARCHIVED Crock Pot Recipes
mightymorg replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There's a crockpot recipe that I make that my boyfriend just loves. I throw in chicken, a bag of minute rice, pineapple chunks, sliced onion, a little garlic, and mix up to half a bottle of gluten-free barbeque sauce with the juice from the pineapple, with enough water to cover the rest of the ingredients. Season it with salt and pepper, and just let it... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Advice
mightymorg replied to blondie5star's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bridget, you aren't insane! I don't have the swelling problem you have (except for my tummy bloating up), but my-uh...bathroom habits ...are just like yours. Water, exercise, fiber, different kinds of fiber...nothing worked. The only thing that seems to work is coffee right in the morning (sometimes) or taking Mirilax three times a day. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Safe Rice Cerial Like Rice Krispies?
mightymorg replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Health Valley makes a cereal called Rice Crunch-Ums...they're not puffed, but more like Chex. They're REALLY good. The only other cereal type of thing I tried that's gluten-free are the snack bars by Envirokidz. It's a light bar of puffed rice that comes in different flavors and is somewhat similar to a rice krispies treat, though not as sticky. -

Do any of y'all have the contact info for the support groups? I'd love to know where they're held, who runs them, etc... -
No, I haven't. I seem to have better BMs though, when I eat it...or any fat for that matter. I find it as a good source of protein and fat.

ARCHIVED Please Help
mightymorg replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Danielle, I would suggest doing an elimination diet (if you do) with a registered dietician. Not a "nutritionist." If they have the title of RD that means they have a degree in nutrition and have been acknowledged by the ADA. Anyone can label themselves a "nutritionist." RDs have the education, and they can make sure you're getting proper nutrients while... -
ARCHIVED Saw New Doctor Yesterday
mightymorg replied to lizzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree, if you have positive responses to the diet, continue going gluten-free. But it would probably be benefitial to toy with the new doctor's diagnosis. BUT I would not take that medicine if it could increase the frequency of your seizures...that's so scary! How is your doctor so sure it's Crohn's? -
ARCHIVED If You Are In The Austin, Tx Area...
mightymorg replied to mightymorg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea for all the replies! I have heard about Wild Woods, though I have not taken a look at them yet...it's so great to hear there are other options than paying an arm and a leg at Whole Foods or ordering online! I'd love to go to the Austin meeting! I'm not officially dx yet (waiting on results)...is that okay? I'd love to be in contact with others... -
Yes, it is. It's frusterating. Most doctors only care about making themselves look good to insurance. Don't you think it would look good to their prospective patients if they were proactive in diagnosing? only in a perfect world...

ARCHIVED If You Are In The Austin, Tx Area...
mightymorg posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in Georgetown, and there's a health food place called The Herbery on Williams Drive, west of IH35. I saw a post on here a while ago that mentioned the place, so I went and checked it out, and it's great! They have so many gluten-free products that even Whole Foods doesn't have, such as Gluten Free Pantry mixes, Pamela's mixes, tons of rice crackers... -
ARCHIVED Glutened From Colonoscopy Prep.?
mightymorg replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I felt pretty weak...but with all those meds in my system, I'm not surprised! They gave me a memory suppressant and a pain killer (either vicodine or codeine, don't remember...haha). My procedure was at 1:40 pm and I came home and slept, then woke up around 7. That's when the memory suppressant wore off, too. Next day I didn't feel like doing much...
