  1. I have a "Pasta Express" machine that I purchased on ebay, I don't think they are very expensive in the stores though. I use my gluten free pasta recipe in it and it mixes the dough and then extrudes it through whatever die I choose. There are probably 10-12 different shapes. I know there is a fettucine die but I am doubtful about the ravioli or tortellini...
  2. I have an Oster express and an awesome recipe for it. I make bread every other day and it is great. Everyone in my family eats it and enjoys it even though my husband is the only one who needs the gluten-free bread. If anyone is interested I will post the recipe but it has basically been adapted for use in this particular bread machine (2 lb loaf) and will...
  3. I buy my xantham gum from Blue chip group. www.glutenfreebcg.com They have a whole line of gluten free mixes and products, the xantham gum is about $9.99 for a 1 lb bag.
  4. I use my grinder to grind brown rice, white rice, garbonzo beans, popcorn and other bean flours. It works great and I know that what I grind is definitely gluten free. Not to mention that it is easier to store the whole grains sometimes because the flours need to be refrigerated or frozen to keep them fresh. You also get more nutritional value out of a freshly...
  5. Hi everyone, I attended a gluten free cooking class yesterday and the teacher said that vanilla is not gluten free due to the fact that it comes from a vanilla bean which is a plant that is actually related to wheat. Has anyone ever heard of this before? She recommended a vanilla powder that she gets from Bob's red mill. I checked a couple lists of good an...
  6. You can also make your own cornmeal by grinding popcorn. It is a little bit finer than what you buy in the store but it still works and you know that is ok if you grind it yourself!
  7. Has any one tried grinding garbonzo beans? I also have a whisper mill but so far I have only used it for rices. I also haven't seen any dried garbonzo beans-only canned, where would I get them? Nikkie
  8. We live in Utah so the 4th grade did a state history program and the girls were pioneers and the boys were indians. A bunch of the older kids in our area did a pioneer trek to Martins cove last summer so I lent out several for that. Have fun finishing yours up! Nikkie
  9. Hi Christine, I'm Nikkie, I haven't said much other than a few posts on other boards but I saw that you are making pioneer bonnets and thought I'd offer you some. I made 40 of them last year for a school play and I still have at least 30-35 left. I don't foresee ever needing that many, so if you are interested you are welcome to some of them. They are ...
  10. My husband was diagnosed with Celiac about 3 months ago and so he has been gluten free ever since. We try to keep a 3-6 month food storage for our family but I am wondering what experience anyone has had with storing some of the gluten free grains and other ingrediants. It is easy to store white rice as a grain and then grind it but brown rice has a shorter...
