  2. So I just want to put heinz ketchup on my bunless burger or look at the ingredients of any number of products that are ok, with the exception of the catch all 'natural flavors' WHY!?!?!?! Just list the ingredients!!!!!! So, what do you all do? Call the manufacturer before every meal? (I'm just past one month of gluten-free, and still finding...
  3. no symptoms here either gluten free since 1/1/6 diagnosed by blood tests tested because my mother was diagnosed (no symptoms either) for me, gluten free can be fine at times. befoer all this, i was a pizza freak, pasta and bread constantly, commecial cereal every day. but when i'm eating at home, there's plenty of food that i can eat that i...
  4. i'm fairly new to all of this - diagnosed with celiac on 12/21/05, gluten free since 1/1/06 and i am all for being 100% gluten-free with no cheating this guy i work with that has celiac also, told me that your intestines heal in a matter of weeks. any gluten will damage them again. and they will heal again in a couple of weeks. but there is some...
  5. Hi Carrie, as a fellow NY'er who loves pizza (what Nyer doesn't?) i am very excited to tell you the name of the place is Risotteria Open Original Shared Link it's on bleeker - i work in midtown - not too convenient for a quick lunch so I haven't been there myself (i'm only gluten free since 1/1/6), but i look forward to trying it soon. funnily...
  6. hey everyone happy new years! i was diagnosed a few days befor christmas. being asymptomatic, i decided to wait until after the holidays to go gluten free i took the time in between to have my last _____ (fill in the blank with a number of things) i also took the time to plan and research and shop so that i'd be prepared. the only thing i wasn...
  7. in my blood tests, some results had numbers, along with reference numbers for high and low values, and others just had "Positive" or "Negative" but the only way that I know that is becuase i always ask for copies to be sent to me. i didn't used to do that. but now, yes, every test, please send me a copy. good luck
  8. i met with a GI on wednesday. i didn't get the feeling that she knew so much about celiac, but at least she suggested that i also go the the celiac center at NY presberterian. she said the blood tests aren't that specific, and a biopsy is the gold standard. she also said if the biopsy is negative, the diagnosis is negative. hmmmm, i've read differently...
  9. thanks very much for all of these links sure is a lot ot digest, so to speak thanks -rg
  10. I hope I don't offend any of the very well informed people on this here message board by this post, becuase I really do appreciate all of the info i've gotten here over the past few days. I am looking for medical explainations of celiac disease. Detailed medical descriptions incuding: the process of what happens after ingestion of gluten and in what...
  11. florida, why wait for them to call you? put your dr's number on your speeddial and call them. ask them why you didn't get all of the results for the tests ordered. never wait for them to call you. of course, some doctors (including my endo) are onto this, and never ever answer their phones, instead forcing you to leave voicemails. that makes it...
  12. Homophones ruined anti-rant rants just joking around Andi, to test if your positive attitude includes a sense of humor. i'm new here. i think the information i'm getting here is awesome. i also realize that my sense of humor may be different from the normal posts here. But that's me. i hope it doesn't offend anyone, or get me banned. as...
  13. see, this is why i love open forums to discuss medical issues. without this discussion, i wouldn't have thought about some of the things that you are all bringing up regarding the great shakesperian question: to B(iopsy)e or not to B(iopsy)e instead i just would've shook my head and said "uh, okay dr. whatever you say" not that I won't...

ARCHIVED How Do You Pick A Doctor

other than a GI that's covered by your plan, how did you pick someone who knows, really really knows, about Celiac? thanks very much in advance for your thoughts and stuff -rg
  15. thanks katie, i was really just kind of having a little fun with the oddness of it, but thanks for clarifying. -rg
  16. ok katie, so if a biopsy can't rule it out, are you saying that i will definitely not find out that i don't have it, or that i won't not find out that i don't not have it or not? i checked the list, and there's no one listed on long island. did i mention that i live on long island? (for those not from long island, it's part of new york state...

  18. this is all great info. and i appreciate it immensely and being that it's my first day here, i'm not sure how things go here, threadwise, staying on topic, and all, but if my question leads to a discussion that meanders its way into othr related issues, well that suits me just fine thanks again everyone -rg
  19. my goodness. that's kind of a personal question just kidding yes, i did. i guess it just wasn't pinned thanks rg
  20. thanks lisa i can see!!! (your response) but the question i have is more one of degrees is it an all or nothing? if glutens there, the body reacts? or if it's there alot, it reacts a lot? i'm all about education. what are the best resources out there (too technical is fine - i love reading medical thingies) thanks -rg
  21. well then, isn't that interesting. thanks for the info. i was concerned that in addition to losing my posts, i was losing my mind cowabunga rg
  22. i posted a topic asking if a lot of gluten is worse than a little in the 'coping' forum. i can't see it. what's up with that? thanks -rg
  23. hey everyone, sorry if this has been answered a million times, but this question is by far the most difficult for me to get a grasp on. is a small amount of gluten less harmful than a large amount? and if it is, then, for someone who is asymptomatic, is crosscontamination a huge worry? I certainly will be vigilant if it's necessary. But I want...
  24. i wish i knew what tests were done, but, as of this minute, I don't yesterday, when i spoke to the dr's office person who was not the dr, i did ask to have the results sent to me. years of graves disease tests has taught me something If I have a disease, it's MY disease. I own it, not my Dr. once i see what tests they ran, and how i scored...
  25. Danikali, i have no symptoms, at least not that i know of. i got tested because my mom was diagnosed (also without symptoms), and becuase I have graves. My mom got tested because her brother (my uncle) got stomach cancer, a bad one, unoperable, I can't remember the name. it was suggested that his siblings and kids get tested. Sadly, he passed away from...
