  1. I'm giving my kiddos Garden of Life vitamins for kids... what else do they need? Did your little ones get tested for vitamin deficiencies too? Mine did not... they just said "give her on a multivitamin".
  2. I think this may just be a venting post.... I hope that's okay. We are just a month into my daughter (4 1/2) being diagnosed and are exploring further if my son (3) has it too (+ blood work, - biopsy). I'm terrified of going anywhere or doing anything. I worry that my kids are going to accidently get gluten somehow and I have become a recluse! I...
  3. Is it possible that a young child could have issues with "leaky gut"? Or is this something that happens after years of being undiagnosed? My 4 year old (and possibly my 3 year old) was just diagnosed and I'm trying to figure out how I would know if other foods are a problem. Should I automatically put her on an "elimination diet"? Thank you!
  4. I'm just curious what everyone's experiences have been with their children. I have read a lot of blogs & books from an adult's point of view, but am curious what other parents' experiences have been in having their child diagnosed and how the kids did after going gluten free. My daughter's main issue was constipation and we were battling encopresis...
  5. We're debating going to the Celiac Center in Chicago. Would they "consult" over the phone? I'm not sure how this all works...
  6. I just recieved the report from the biopsy. This is from the pathology report: "Duodenum, biopsy: Focal increased intraepithelial lymphocytes, otherwise unremarkable." Does that mean anything? Other than that everything was normal.
  7. Sorry, I'm brand new at this! My 4 year old with Celiac puts her hands in her mouth all the time and has taken on the bad habit of chewing her hair! Is the ingredient list to watch out for on things like hand sanitizer, shampoo, etc the same as what I'm watching for in food? Thank you!
  8. Once celiac is diagnosed, what other labs should be checked? I assume we should check for anemia, vit D... what else? I have zero confidence in our GI doc and want to be on top of things. All of the follow up we have been told to do is a weight check in 3 months for our 4 year old and a follow up appointment in 6 months with GI to check celiac labs again...
  9. Thank you for your reply! Great information. My daughter was diagnosed a week before with a 1:320 and clearly visible damage with a positive biopsy. We've turned our home gluten free, so my son will be gluten free anyway. I hope we can talk to a doctor who will give us more answers and help.
  10. I'm having trouble explaining why our family is all going gluten free with 2 of our children testing positve for celiac. We are asking anyone who comes to visit to eat gluten free at our house along with us. My in laws visit for a week at a time and are struggling with "giving up" gluten for that long. We just don't want to risk cross contamination especially...
  11. Thank you so much for this validation. That's been my understanding. Do you have any scientific references you could pass along to validate that he very likely has celiac even with a negative biopsy? I'm having trouble explaining this to people especially since the GI doctor said he doesn't have it! Thank you!
  12. Here are my son's labs: IgA is 40 (15-160 is normal) Endomysial antibody IgA (titer) 1:120 Endomysial antibody IgA is positive Tissue Transglutam antibody is positive at 43 (less than 20 is negative) Biopsy was negative. When I called for the biopsy results, the GI clinic said he was negative for celiac and canceled our follow-up appointment...
