My now 5 year old was diagnosed almost a year ago. In the first 6 months after going gluten free, we saw a 3 lb weight gain and she grew 2 inches. Her numbers were a little bit improved, but not near normal still. She has not gained any more weight since September and I think she may have grown one inch. Should I be concerned? We'll have more blood work...

ARCHIVED What are your child's symptoms when they are glutened?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm still not sure what my kids' symptoms are when they accidentally get gluten. Every illness and tummy ache make me paranoid. My daughter ate some chocolate of an unknown source and ended up with a fever, pain when she had a bowel movement, and then a very fine rash.... Could that be gluten? Is a fever a possible sign of being glutened? what are... -
ARCHIVED e-mail to my daughter's girl scout troop
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I want to send an e-mail to my 5 year old's girl scout troop. How does this sound? Thanks! Hi everyone! I wanted to make you all aware that my daughter has celiac disease and must be strictly gluten free. This involves avoided direct gluten (anything containing wheat, barley, or rye) and any items that may be cross-contaminated (from cutting boards... -
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this... We are traveling to visit family and plan to bring a lot of our own things (jar of PB, jelly, pan & spatula to cook with, gluten-free snacks, etc). Is it okay to use basic plates/cups/silverware in this gluten-rich household? Should we bring our own of that too? I want to make sure I keep my kiddos...

ARCHIVED What Other Labs Should We Be Checking?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My children were diagnosed in March, but only ever had the "celiac panel" done. Should we be checking other labs? I've gathered a few things like vitamin D and thyroid stuff... what should I make sure is checked for the follow up appointment coming up soon? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Can I Trust All "gluten Free" Labels?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When my kids were initially diagnosed, I was told (by the dietition) that if it says "gluten free" then it's safe even if it has the "made in a facility with wheat, etc". Is this true? I've gotten very paranoid as my daughter has still not gained weight after 4 months gluten free. I just have no idea what products to trust. I have a hard time telling... -
ARCHIVED How To Respond When People Bring You Food...
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We have not yet encountered this, but since we are expecting a baby, we anticipate people wanting to bring food to us. I have no problem turning people down when they ask, but I'm worried that someone will make us something "gluten free" in their contaminated kitchen and just come by. Should I say "thank you" and not say anything or should I turn down their... -
ARCHIVED Do You List "gluten" As An Allergy?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When you fill out paperwork for medical, school, camp, etc info, do you list "gluten" as an allergy? I want people to be aware and wonder if mis-informing people (by saying she has a gluten allergy) would keep my daughter safer in various environments. I also wonder if I need to list wheat, barley, and rye specifically since there are still many people... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction Vs Stomach Virus In 3 Year Old
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 3 year old has had diarrhea & has been complaining of an upset stomach with very little appetite for almost 4 days now. The diarrhea the first day was the worst and now the diarrhea has gotten better, but is not gone and he's still complaining of an upset stomach and not eating much. Is this just a stomach virus? We were out of town just before... -
ARCHIVED 2 Kiddos With Celiac... Gluten While Pregnant
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question since I do not have celiac myself. I have 2 children who have celiac, so I feel like the odds of another would be high (anyone know if that's the case?) My husband and I both have tested negative (we have NOT done any genetic testing). Our household is strictly gluten free now. Is there... -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Label Question
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Am I correct that if a product says "gluten free" on it, it has been tested and is less than 20 ppm even if it has a disclaimer that it is made in a facility that manufactures products with wheat? I'm specifically looking at my bag of Snapea Crisps right now... Thank you! -
ARCHIVED Help With My Daughter's 5Th Birthday Cake!
CeliacMommaX2 replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Update: I ended up going with Pamela's... they turned out alright (still having a hard time not comparing to gluten version...). My daughter loved them though and was thrilled to have cupcakes for her birthday! Thanks for everyone's input! -
ARCHIVED Help With My Daughter's 5Th Birthday Cake!
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm trying to figure out what to make her cake with. She wants a "vanilla" cake. Should I use Pamela's "classic vanilla cake mix" or Betty Crocker's yellow gluten-free cake mix? Or is there a good recipe out there that you'd recommend (she's also dairy free right now). I just want her to have delicious cake for her first gluten-free birthday! Thank... -
ARCHIVED If You Are Dairy Intolerant, What Are Your Symptoms?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
We're trying to figure out if our 4 year old is having issues with dairy, but I'm not sure what to look for. How did you know you couldn't tolerate dairy? I've tried to make her dairy free for the last few days, but she still complains of "tummy aches". I don't want to take away her milk and cheese (which is devastating for her) if we don't need to. ... -
ARCHIVED Buying Store Brands
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have always shopped for store brands for the most part (usually Meijer and some Target) and saw on Meijer's website that they have a list of gluten free store brand products, but of course a disclamer saying they cannot speak to the possibility of cross-contamination. Is it safe to continue to buy store brands or do I need to switch to name brand companies... -
How do I go about getting an appointment at a celiac center (University of Chicago or Mayo...). Do we get a referral or just call and ask for an appointment? Would we just get one appointment or would we need to ask for one for each kid? We have a diagnosis for my daughter and would just be interested in learning more and making sure we are doing everything...

ARCHIVED Curious... Long Eyelashes?
CeliacMommaX2 replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My kids who have celiac both have long eyelashes and big eyes as well as my husband (who was negative for celiac but noticing a change in his IBS on a gluten free diet). I just came across this and was curious if there was anything scientific behind it. -
ARCHIVED Potty Accidents... Related To Celiac?

ARCHIVED Potty Accidents... Related To Celiac?
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have been struggling with my 4 year old having a lot of urine accidents (multiple a day) for as long as I can remember. Could this be at all related to celiac? Anyone else experience this? -

ARCHIVED Help With Positive Blood Work & Negative Biopsy
CeliacMommaX2 replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oops! I just got a copy of the labs and I got this wrong: Endomysial antibody IgA (titer) 1:20 (NOT 1:120) Does that change anything? Is it possible he does not have celiac with those labs? -
ARCHIVED "tummy Aches" In 4 Yr Old 1 Month Gluten Free
CeliacMommaX2 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My 4 yr old has been gluten-free 1 month since being diagnosed with celiac. She is still complaining of "tummy aches" every now & then, but not every day. Is she getting gluten accidentally? Or do I just need to be more patient and this is normal? I'm paranoid I missing something and feeding her gluten! -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed Mom Of Celiacs
CeliacMommaX2 replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for all of your wonderful replies! I will be sure to keep a stash of meals & treats in our freezer. Luckily we have a big chest freezer that's close to empty now that I've given away all of our "gluten food". TIme to invest in a good cooler! Any tips on snacks I could have on hand for them in the car that don't need refrigerated? I appreciate...
