Hey there! So I was diagnosed when I was really young, then in high school I kind of started sneaking wheat sometimes. (in my defense, I didn't remember the really bad side effects of gluten because I was so young when I was diagnosed...no one judge me (: ). Once I got to college, i stopped sneaking gluten but I also started getting really fatigued and...

ARCHIVED Roommate Should I Or Should I Not
taylor- replied to allergyprone's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey there! I have lived with roommates for the past 5 years and have never had any problems with cross contamination or anything like that. I explained the situation to them and just always had a mutual understanding with all of them that we would clearly label what food is ours and clean dishes thoroughly. I had a seperate toaster that i used and we were... -

ARCHIVED College Search...
taylor- replied to celiacprincess17's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey there When I came to FSU the school gave me the option of living in an apartment style dorm with upperclassmen so that I had a kitchen, or living in a regular dorm and working with the kitchen staff to figure out meals for each week. I opted to live off campus in an apartment with someone I already knew up at college though. One thing I would... -
Hey there. I've had Celiac basically my whole life..and am currently in my 3rd year of college. I agree with everything everyone has said above me. I actually found it easier to manage my food when I moved away from home, because I started preparing everything myself (not that my family wasn't a great support and watched out for me) I've lived in an apartment...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy And Kids
taylor- replied to fripp017's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey there, I had an endoscopy at 1.5 and I turned out OK Granted, 18 years ago they didn't have all the fancy blood test, stool test etc. So I'm not really sure what my parents would have done if I was 1.5 and being diagnosed right now. Like everyone else said, its really up to you and your husband as the parents, everyone's family has different needs... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs In College
taylor- replied to nutbutters's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
hey! I haven't been on here in a couple months, but I thought I'd put my two cents in.. I go to Florida State, and when I first went to move up here the school gave me two options.. 1. they would work with me in the dining halls to cook my food and try and give me options, but if I wanted anything "special" I would need to meet with someone once a week... -

taylor- replied to SSage's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
hey again! they are so strict with the dumb food plan thing! haha, all the dorms a freshman can live in at FSU require you to have a meal plan as well. when i talked to them they said either a)i could live in an apartment style dorm (with upperclassmen) or meet with the cafeteria staff once a week and plan my meals for the week. obviously both of those... -

Hey! im a college freshman too, but i have had celiac for about 18 years. ARCHIVED Growth Catch Up In Older Kids
taylor- replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey! when I was diagnosed I was about a year and a half. I was very very small for my age, in one of the lower percentiles (when I was really sick I lost 5-10 pounds). About 6 months after my biopsy and going on the diet I gained a lot of weight, I was really fat, but I was also really short. I thinned out by 1st grade but was still the shortest in my... -

taylor- replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
hey there! i had a positive biopsy at 18 months. I'm not sure what my parents would have choosen to do if there had been the option of a blood test, stool test, or a dietician who knew a lot about celiac at the time. but i have been gluten free since then.. -

I had a tea party birthday when i turned 5!! haha.. we all wore our sunday dresses and had a makeover type thing. For an activity we had different stations: nail painting, decorating mirrors/picture frames, glamour shots, and making hair scrunchies (the big poofy ones made out of scraps of material, very 90s right?..haha) my best friends mom, my grandma...
