There's a simpler explanation to the quoting stuff you mentioned... it's actually the forum software drives me nuts trying to cut a quote into multiple parts especially when posting from a mobile. No offence taken at all from any of your replies, there's only been one nasty post in the entire 6 pages of thread and I shot that troll poster down double quick...

You pretty much hit the nail on the head there, no counsellor can change this situation, in the same way the bereavement counsellor I tried many years ago couldn't bring back the relative who was no longer here. The loss of health, which I always feared happening doesn't change and there's no good to come out of this celiac, physically seem to be getting...

@Jmg appreciate the thought but I have no time for counsellors, simple fact is they can't change the fact of this evil illness and what it's taken from me. They haven't got it, don't have to live with it and can't possibly understand. That won't change, I hate my lifestyle now and hate it more with every passing day - a living hell, especially for a young...

ARCHIVED Calcium deficiency?
egs1707 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Been about a month since the second run at going gluten-free (had to do a gluten challenge in between) and apart from one week before Christmas I feel worse than I ever have, new symptoms recently though... I've noticed my arms and shoulders feeling progressively more sore and weak and beginning to click and crack where they didn't before. Weight... -
Hemp was the other one I've been recommended to, now in theory lactose free sounds good but... ...noticed the other day when I loaded up on dairy (protein drink, milk chocolate etc) I felt a bit more queasy and slight headache so thought I'd try swapping dairy for some alternatives to see if it helped... ...big mistake it seems. Had lactose-free...

ARCHIVED Overwhelmed depressed and just plain sick
egs1707 replied to Amberg330's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OP yup I feel that hopelessness too, especially when everything seems to be measured in weeks, months or even years in terms of how long it takes to see any tangible benefits from the diet change. Also the other thing that is easily overlooked is how daunting this "raw foods" shift can be if you're not used to it. Convenience is a big thing in today... -
I've been on the receiving end of that "advice" from doctors too meaning I effectively had to go a double gluten challenge Celiac seems to be the biggest blind spot in the medical profession (either through incompetence or negligence) as I can't believe how many doctors get it wrong with misdiagnosis. May be worth having the blood tests to see what...

Hi Yuliya, Yes I get the headache sensation, feels like something is pulling my scalp tightly at the top. My doctors had no idea about it either (although they didn't have much clue about celiac generally so it's not unusual). Sometimes also around the cheeks too. In the last few days I think too much dairy may also be giving similar effects so...

Bit of an update... Had a good spell the other week where energy levels shot up and felt really sharp mentally too, was beginning to think I might have some hope there and made the most of it in sports, going out etc but... (and it seems with this condition there's always a but...) Now I feel terrible Over the last week or so I've developed a new...

ARCHIVED How quickly can you feel "glutened" \ all in the mind?
egs1707 replied to egs1707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To maintain some form of social life eating out has to be on the menu at various points (excuse the pun) especially with a fair few offering gluten-free menus. Granted if there's any way to avoid food I'll definitely do it to avoid having to "out" myself (personally I find the celiac label a mark of shame but that's another thread in itself) but there... -
ARCHIVED How quickly can you feel "glutened" \ all in the mind?
egs1707 replied to egs1707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm having running battles with my hopeless NHS doctors as I can't pay for all the tests privately, they don't want to run any further tests or do basically anything apart from fob me off (formal complaint heading their way soon). As for the potato it was a social event and only came about because despite pre-planning a certified gluten-free meal the place... -
ARCHIVED How quickly can you feel "glutened" \ all in the mind?
egs1707 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's an interesting question for you all, is it actually physically possible to feel "glutened" within 30 seconds of eating a contaminated \ gluten containing food or beverage? Since I've had to go on this irritatingly paranoid diet I seem to get really anxious if there's any doubt on the product, which pretty much means anything that doesn't scan... -
They're certainly meant to be, maybe it's the concentration of it that was just a bit too much perhaps. Went to see a dietitian today, they seemed to think I'm on the right track and as per many of the replies on here it's a time thing before seeing any real benefits. Found a few websites that can supply homecooked gluten-free meals in frozen form to...

@Gemini so much of that longer post above resonates, thanks for taking the time to post it. Send restaurants have an accreditation from Celiac UK in terms of their preparation standards which is good. Others are more understanding of it now and say they'll prepare food in a clean area, separate utensils and so on but with the caveat they can't 100% guarantee...

Not sure if the quote has worked correctly there but anyways... being in an active lifestyle, lots of sport etc. takes a lot of protein to maintain (or gain) weight and needed top-ups with shakes, bars, meals involving the Quorn products etc. Basically need every source of non-meat protein I can get but now those are shrinking by the day and not even got...

It's an ethical choice and one I won't change whatever the knock on effects. The thought of killing and eating another living creature is something I just couldn't be doing with. Been referred to the dietician who's meant to be a specialist in this field but not heard anything from them yet. I'm guessing there isn't but is there any test to show...

No meat, no fish at all. Read somewhere lentils and beans can end up with the same effects, if so then what? I need to be around 12-13st but if I don't find a protein shake replacement to top up between meals I'll be down to 10st in a month's time given the speed I was losing weight on gluten-free last time. Managed to get some back on with the...

And therein lies my worry, can't see me getting anywhere near the levels of protein I need without them. Seems lose-lose whatever option I take

Will reply to the points above shortly but in the meantime I'm experiencing what I can only describe as a rebound effect, now back feeling how I did after first going gluten-free. Shoulder pain has returned, pain both sides of the abdomen and a rather unhappy gurgling stomach area. Muscles also feel like they're burning, which was the horrible sensation...

Know exactly where you're coming from, tried the gluten-free Singles site as well, even worse results for me... only 14 results for the entire country Restaurants aside from the celiac-certified ones (I'm the UK so they do an accreditation scheme) do seem to be a challenge but the cinema and bar should be more manageable. Fortunately there's a fair bit...

Not had any blood tests since the ones that were done pre-diagnosis. Have to go back to the NHS for those and that means having another battle with the doctors to tell them what tests I need doing (as it seems their 10+ years of training are easily outsmarted by someone with Google and a forum login). Having said that none of the levels were of concern...

So I haven't updated this in a few weeks... a quick summary... Endoscopy gave the result I knew anyway, intestinal wall damage and with the blood test pretty much certain diagnosis. No surprise there, talk about a lot of pain for little gain Have to see a dietician for the complications of being vegetarian and have a Dexa scan as per the usual follow...

Yup they took samples as I don't get the results for a week or so, something about microscopic analysis in a lab? Only remember a few minutes either side of the procedure so looks like the sedatives did the trick. Deep down I know the result anyway just based on the reactions I've had since being back on the gluten, this is just a (very expensive) box ticking...

So nearly at the end point of the gluten challenge, body has somewhat adjusted to the gluten intake and settled back to the original symptoms of head tightness, muscle soreness, dizziness and general GI malaise. Almost used to that given how it's how I've been feeling most of the year so definitely seems 3-4 weeks is my adjustment timeframe. Endoscopy...

ARCHIVED Symptoms 'flaring' for weeks after flu jab?
egs1707 replied to Jammy27's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The flu vaccines can also be a bit of a gamble with what strains they put in each year. I've been OK with them generally but one year I had a really bad reaction to it and ended up feeling like someone was shoving razor blades down my throat for the best part of a week
