    ARCHIVED Grrrr...

Is Wendy's chili supposed to be gluten-free? I have found all of one canned chili that didn't have gluten (it sucked) so I have always assumed that chili in a restaurant wasn't safe. Doesn't matter for me anyway, since I can't eat beans since going off gluten. I just make my own all-meat chili. Purists would say chili shouldn't have beans anyway.
  2. Not sure. We talked about it a little on this thread, with some possible theories: Open Original Shared Link
  3. I can't tolerate legumes anymore, since going gluten free. This includes peanuts. I never had a problem with them before but now get stomach cramps and gas.
  4. Well, good to know I'm not the only one (ummm.. it's not good that others are having problems - hopefully you know what I mean) and that there is a possible reason for it. I may try almond butter instead of peanut butter. It's expensive but shouldn't have the same problems. Thanks everyone.
  5. I had kind of wondered if I was able to digest those long chain carbs before because of the leaky gut. Now I am healing, making it more difficult. Or I'm just weird (which is the most likely).
  6. Yeah, it's me. I guess the point was that these things didn't bother me at all before I went gluten-free. I could eat sorbitol all day with no gas or bathroom problems. Now, one Breathsaver and I get severe stomach cramps. The same with peanut butter or peanuts in general. It's not a big deal. I don't want SAs anyway and I can switch to almond butter...
  7. I went gluten free back in February of this year and have been strict in it except for a couple of accidental glutenings. Since that time, I have found that I can't tolerate most legumes, including peanuts, and sugar alcohols. I never had any problem with either before going gluten-free. Even a little peanut butter in something gives me bad stomach cramps...
  8. Now I know why I could never drink beer. It would absolutely kill my stomach. Also why I was diagnosed with ulcers (they never actually looked in my stomach) at age 12. I always have had "stomach issues". So did my mom. The almost constant canker sores growing up. The severe acne I've had all my life (well, since age 12 or so), even into my...

    ARCHIVED What Do You Miss?

I wasn't eating a lot of the gluten-y things beforehand because they aren't healthy, but I pretty much only miss my wife's homemade sub sandwich rolls. They are almost worth getting sick over. Pretty much everything else that I really like, I have found a suitable replacement for. The thought of a donut now grosses me out. I do miss the freedom...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

Back to the original question: Fast food surprises have been for me: Taco Bell taco meat has oats, Taco Time taco meat has wheat, Arby's curly frys have a wheat batter (this is a DUH for me - I should have known), A&W regular fries have wheat on them. Not fast food, but a Milky Way candy bar has gluten. I had a mini, which had no ingredients on...
  11. Plus, you aren't likely to get tested in the first place if you didn't at least suspect you had a problem with gluten.
  12. So does my wife. Good stuff.
  13. Crisco may not have gluten, but it's far from "safe". Crisco, like most commercial shortening, contains partially-hydrogenated oil - transfat. No level of transfat is considered safe for consumption. Once in a blue moon probably wouldn't be too damaging, but try to avoid it.
  14. Gluten aggravates my hay fever. So the most annoying symptoms it the day or two of sneezing and constant nose running. The worst symptoms, though, is the migraines. Hmmm, I just thought of something. I almost always have nausea with the migraines. I always assumed it came from the pain but now I wonder if gluten was causing both.
  15. I'm new here, but thought I would join in. My life is pretty good, so this is mostly in fun. I hate the nutritional and health misinformation that runs rampant. I hate it that doctors are mostly drug pushers that treat symptoms with lifetime prescriptions rather than find the root cause of the problem. I hate it that most research these days...
  16. An "apple shape" is a very telling sign of insulin resistance.
  17. I don't do grains at all, so this is what I do for cereal, when I get the urge. I take a handful of unsweetened coconut flakes (cheap at the health food stores), add some sliced almonds, some chopped pecans, craisins or dried blueberries, some Splenda and cinnamon, to taste. The coconut adds the bulk and the nuts make the crunch. Also, the coconut isn't very...
