  1. Well, I was diagnosed with Celiac about one month ago and was very upset at first, but I have actually gotten used to the diet. The only thing that really bothers me is going out to eat. It is very difficult to go to normal restaurants anymore so I just stick with Outback and PF Changs. I was doing so well, but today I just got diagnosed with Osteopenia...
  2. Good, so glad we are on the same page now. So, do you know if its gluten-free?
  3. Wow, I guess I just assumed everyone knew what water ice was. I have to say that I am surprised at the replies. I am from the Philadelphia area and water ice is a known thing around here. Just as popular as our soft pretzels or cheesesteaks. Anyway, it is like Italian Ice, flavored shaved ice. Does anyone know what Italian Ice is?
  4. Does anyone know if water ice is gluten-free? I love it and with the warm weather coming I was wondering if I can eat it or not. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. KathyB- I live in the philly area. Can you tell me where the specialty store is that has premade pizzas? I would love to buy some! Thanks.
  6. Taylor- I have actually printed out those cards from somewhere on this message board. Unfortunately, I don't remember where they are I just called a restaurant yesterday to see if they were gluten friendly and the woman requested that I bring the card with me. She says it makes it easier for the chef and they will make sure to clean everything before...
  7. I actually just called Advil yesterday to see if their cold and sinus medicine was gluten free since it had starch in the ingredients. I was informed that it is corn starch and that all of their products are gluten-free!
  8. Hi Tammy. Thanks for the response. I actually did not eat the onion ring but ate the chicken that it was touching. My doctor already yelled at me for that one, but you learn from your mistakes. Since I never really had severe problems to begin with, it is hard for me to tell whether I ingested gluten or not. That is bad and good. I don't get sick but...
  9. I called a bunch of companies regarding any gluten-free lists that they may have. They were all very nice and many of them are mailing me lists that I can keep handy when food shopping. Here is what they said: Sargentos shredded cheeses- All of them are gluten free except for the nacho and taco shredded cheeses ( the ones that have spices added)....

    ARCHIVED Safe Restaurants

I wrote Chilis an email asking if they had any gluten-free items on their menu. Here is their reply: Thank you very much for your email. We are very happy to provide you with a list of suggested items. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee that any item is completely wheat-free due to cross-contamination possibilities in the preparation of...

    ARCHIVED Chinese Food

I don't know if you have one where you are, but PF Changs has a gluten-free menu. I was told that you can't get much as far as chinese food goes since they cook mostly everything with soy sauce. Hope this helps!
  12. I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago and before then i always had bruises all over my arms and legs. I have noticed that they have gone away for the most part, but it hasn't been that long. I was told that bruising is a side effect of celiac so I am hoping that it won't happen once my body heals. Don't worry, I am right there with you!

    ARCHIVED Dry Eyes

I have been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now and about two weeks ago the skin under my right eye started to become very dry. I put lotion/vaseline on it daily but nothing helped. Now it is under both eyes and it looks/feels awful. I was wondering if this was a side effect of the gluten-free diet or if it is unrelated. Did anyone else experience this...
  14. I am a big fan of movie theater popcorn (even though i agree it is overpriced). So, I asked my dietician, (who specializes in celiac) and she said it was fine as long as you don't get the butter on it. Hope this helps
  15. That is a good point. I didn't even think of that. My boyfriend did have chapstick on, that I didn't know the ingredients of, and I told him he couldn't kiss me. As far as food is concerned, I would think that they would just have to brush their teeth first? I don't know. I am new at all of this and also want to know where it ends. Seems almost impossible...
  16. My dietician, who specializes in celiac, told me that your safest gum would be any type of wrigleys. I am a big gum fanatic so Extra is what I opt for. Hope this helps!
  17. I was just recently diagnosed and went out to eat last night for the second time since I found out. I called beforehand, and spoke to the chef, who informed me that my only option would be to get the baked chicken. So, I went, ordered it and when it came out an onion ring from another person's meal was on the chicken. I panicked, but felt I couldn't send...

    ARCHIVED Weight Gain

Thank you all for your replies, they were very helpful. I guess just like every other diet, you have to watch what you eat and make sure it is not all high in fats. I am very new to this so just figured I would cover all of my bases. Thanks for the suggestion on the buckwheat noodle/flour. I will keep that in mind when i go to the supermarket for the...
  19. I have just recently been diagnosed with Celiac Sprue less than one week ago. Besides the fact that I am still in shock over my favorite foods that I can't eat anymore, I am worried about weight gain. All my life (I am now 26) I have been able to eat whatever I wanted and not worry about gaining weight. Now that I have started on my gluten-free diet I...
  20. I also know how you feel. I was just diagnosed with Celiac less than one week ago. I went out to my first restaurant last night and actually called beforehand to speak to the chef. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. I informed the chef that I had a serious allergen to gluten and that I needed to know exactly what went into the Peking Duck (I knew what...
